Upon hearing the news of RGIII, Josh McCown went immediately into concussion protocol after bending his ear.

Sadly, I wish I could take RGIII's mindset, his physical mindset and put that in Crow's body.

Man, he'd be a bruiser style running back...

Just rewatching the play, you can see Robert lunge and lower his shoulder. So incredibly dumb on his behalf. Yes, I highly admire the physical aspect, no doubt... but that's just dumb.

At least the Browns make the season interesting by having tons of drama. If we're gonna suck, suck as bad as possible.

We could also sign someone off of a team's practice squad.

Right now Aaron Murray is currently on Arizona's PS, Matt Barkley is on Chicago's. There are several others who I have never heard of.

RG3 is Charlie Frye

Josh McCown is Derek Anderson

We will score 50 points this week.

We will win 10 games.

Like seriously?! One and done? Only in Cleveland.

Josh is probably a better qb anyways.

If he slides, he's in bounds and he wanted to get out of bounds to stop the clock. I can't fault the guy because he was still playing to win the game.

That said, while I'm sorry on a personal level because I hate to see anybody get hurt.. for the Browns, I'm not sure it's a bad thing. McCown is a more rhythm passer, gets the ball out faster and the offense looked smoother when he was on the field in pre-season. Second, my bigger fear was that RGIII was going to show just enough that we didn't address the QB position next year in the draft, I'm hoping that fear is now alleviated. RGIII is NOT the long term answer here or anywhere.

So now we don't even have to worry about Arizona promoting him instead of him signing with us. He's the guy I would want of the available guys.

I think if we add a QB, it's Hogan. If it's not a QB, it's Gabe Wright.

I'm sorry that happened to RGIII. I hate to hear about injuries to players, regardless of their team. I hope he recovers and is able to play later this season.

Looks like its already time to go there. So, here it is.

I have to question anybody who has broken Watson down and believes he is "The Guy"

If somebody does, then please correct me. I just don't see it. Yes, he's a real good college QB, but ...

He has some upside to develop into an NFL QB, size and character, but overall, he isn't anywhere near even Winston's or Mariota's class let alone Cam Newton or above. As a matter of fact, when you break him down, he doesn't compare in anything he does on the field to a certain QB whose name, if I brought it up, would result in eternal dawgtalker damnation. Arm strength, accuracy, explosion hitting the hole, shiftiness, you name it.

If we actually did tank for him, I'm afraid its gonna result in another predictable, Brownsesque, disappointment.

I said awhile back that Hue and Pep are on the clock "God forbid Wentz develops into a solid starting Quarterback" Its on them, those two. Most of us watched that unfold. It was their call. If it eventually comes down to us blaming Brown or DePodesta for what happened in last year's draft, concerning the position of Quarterback, that would be a farce.

They wanted Goff. Goff is the third string QB on the Rams. He can't function on the field yet. Prescott and Wentz are starting and doing well. We are supposed to "trust" Hue on Kessler. OK, its not fair to judge any of this yet. But, somebody has to say it. Let the discussion begin.

If the plan was, is, Watson ...

I don't see it.

RG III should be renamed IR III now

Poor guy, but he's just not smart when it comes to avoiding hits. McCown is similar, so Kessler better be ready soon.

I liked Aaron Murray out of college, so wouldn't mind taking a look at him.

we won't sign any vet QB IMO ... it's mccown until he gets IR'd and then Kessler/Hogan

I'd agree with that. At most, we might sign some other sacrificial lamb before we resign ourselves to trotting Kessler out there full time, but that's about it.

This roster is what it is: built to skip the 2016 season.

And they got a good start on skipping it yesterday. Don't be shocked if Haden, Thomas, Gordon, or anybody else is traded

At this point, probably.

I would be looking at any playoff contending team in need of a left tackle.

Build for the future at this point.

Trade Joe Thomas to Seattle for a 2nd round pick.
Trade Gary Barnidge to Arizona for a 2nd round pick.
Trade Joe Haden to Indianapolis for a 2nd round pick.
Trade Josh Gordon to Carolina for a 3rd round pick.

That would equate to a lot of ammunition for the 2017 draft. I understand we already own a dozen or so picks (plus the comp picks we'll get from the NFL). This team needs a ton of help though, and it's clear we're building for the future with all of our available cap space and draft picks.

I think Logan Thomas is on the Giants practice squad. He's not a good QB, but I think he's the guy who could take the most hits before we had to find a replacement.

When is our bye? Might as well get Kessler geared up to start after it.

Our bye week isn't until like week 13 I believe.

We only have four games after it.

Still a while to go .... ha ha.

Sadly the Harvard geniuses running this team think he could be. I think this still hurts us as they'll likely say "we need to see more of RG III since missed most of this year". Regardless of how this season ends, I don't see them addressing the QB situation next year. This FO would rather hoard draft picks.

Josh McCown heartbroken for Robert Griffin III, prepared to lead Browns

Posted 1 hour ago

Patrick MaksStaff WriterTwitter

McCown will start at QB after team places Robert Griffin III on IR

On the trip back to Cleveland on Sunday evening, Josh McCown knew fellow quarterback and friend Robert Griffin III was hurting after a loss to the Eagles. He just wasn’t sure how bad it was.

“We sit next to each other one the flight and he had a bag of ice on his shoulder and so we were talking a little bit, so I kind of understood how he was feeling and what not,” said McCown, who met with reporters Monday afternoon after it was announced Griffin will miss extended time because of a significant shoulder injury.

“So in your mind, you obviously have to start going, saying a prayer for him hoping he’s OK, but also mentally going, ‘OK if it’s your time, you’ve got to be ready to go’ and start going through that process.”

Indeed, with Griffin — who was placed on injured reserve after suffering a broken coracoid bone in a loss at Philadelphia — sidelined for the foreseeable future, McCown is prepared to lead Cleveland once again after starting eight games in 2015.

“We were good in some statistical columns but the one that matters, we didn’t get it done,” said McCown, who passed for 2,109 yards and 12 touchdowns last year.

Under first-year head coach Hue Jackson, the Browns are still trying to change that dynamic after a loss in the season opener. Now, they say they’ll move forward with McCown as they gear up for Baltimore this weekend.

“That’s why you keep him here. I said that to you guys a long time ago, I think you have to have quarterbacks on your football team that can play and that’s why we kept Josh here because he knows how to play and he’s been in this league and he understands our offense and what we’re trying to accomplish,” Jackson said.

“It’s unfortunate that this happened to Robert but it is comforting to know that we have a guy that has played in NFL games and knows how to manage games and play the game and play within our system.”

The 37-year-old McCown approaches this week with bittersweet emotions.

“I’m excited about playing, absolutely,” he said. “As we’ve talked about before at my tender age, these opportunities you don't take lightly so I’m looking forward to competing with these guys.”

But he described himself as “heartbroken” for Griffin, who was named the team’s starter last month after joining the club this past spring.

“You see the time somebody puts into a job and prepare themselves and so for any time that happens, especially week one of the opener, it’s just heartbreaking because I know how much he wants to be out there with his guys and fighting for his team and even that play itself just showed the fight that he had,” McCown said.

“In the quarterback and in every room, you’re so tight and you grow in relationships with guys and so it’s not just a teammate, it’s a friend that’s getting injured and you’re bummed and heartbroken for that guy because you know his dreams and aspirations that he talks about in the quarterback room and the things he needs to accomplish and the goals he has for the team, so it’s heartbreaking.”

With the Ravens and their stingy defense coming to town, McCown said he’ll need to put those feelings aside and shift his "intensity level” to a new gear.

“This is a job I have to do for my team,” he said. “It’s a little bit of a juggling act but as we always say, it’s the next man up and you move on and you focus on the next week.”

I like picks and I think this regime will end up drafting us a contending team, but I really like having Thomas and Haden on the team. Unfortunately for them, they are stuck on this losing team with no chance to compete in the postseason.

Assuming we get a win so we don't go 0-16, I'd be okay with trading them as long as we're getting high picks in return (2nd's or higher).

I don't think Gordon is tradable though, as we've all discussed an insane amount of times before. Barnidge, what's he really worth?

if I'm Thomas I'd want to get out now. He's loyal and settled and stuff ... but enough would be enough for me right now.

Haden? Meh, I don't think he deserves that same mindset.

I feel the exact opposite. This was Griffin's chance, it is over. You cannot rely on a player that is always injured and you don't know if they're good.

I bet we use one of our picks to select a QB in the first round and the other to trade down and get more picks.

Thomas also has no cap penalty if we trade him. If we traded Haden we would have $10M in dead money.
