It seemed there were some great reality shows.

Other than sports, I planned my TV viewing around four shows:

Cash Cab
Mythbusters
Pawn Stars
Dirty Jobs

I think Pawn Stars is the only one still on with new episodes. But it has gone way downhill in my opinion. Too many “interpersonal issues”. (the show seems more about the people and their bogus issues than the pawning)

Yeah, 2006 was a decent TV year.

This would be a great example when teaching kids about what an oxymoron is.

I liked survivor back then.

Nowadays I like naked and afraid. That show is brutal.

Isn't sports technically a "reality show"? People in fancy outfits hitting each other in questionably scripted ways and then arguing about it later. How is that any different than an episode of "Housewives of the LA" or whatever? tongue

Professional Wrestling is since it's as scripted as a reality show.

Football is less violent.

I have an older brother who is certain that professional sports are just as scripted as Big Time Wrestling.

I started liking that show early on, but it became too scripted with the cast. Heck, they were even doing in-show advertising with a fast food chain. I had to stop watching right there. Plus, I got sick of seeing people sell a famous persons item and attempting to prove it by saying, "I trust the guy that sold it to me, so it's the real deal even though I have no other proof."

I get my fix while watching American Pickers. I like the guys and they tend to stick to the format better. It's not completely unscripted, but it feels more organic than the others. Plus, I like watching them find old motorcycles and odd stuff you'd rarely see in a pawn store.

I actually got into The Last Alaskans quite a bit. Cool premise and interesting to see how those families get by way up there. NO WAY I could do that. I'd like to try, but I'd fail after 3 weeks.

Forgot about Pickers too. I do enjoy that, especially watching them travel through the midwest. Neat stuff to see.

There was also a show on History called How the States Got Their Shapes. I'm not sure if it's still on, but I found that fascinating.

I saw that show one rainy Saturday. Watched 2 or 3 episodes in a row.

Fascinating stuff. There was one on Maine and it focused on all the water that is just under the soil in that state. How lucky are they?

Then, there was another about a small piece of land between Georgia and Tennessee that was wrongly divided up and is still a point of contention today due a lack [the water factor again] being on that particular spot of land.

The last one was a western state and they focused on how the Colorado River is drying up and how that is hurting multiple states, especially California's farmlands and even all the way up to Las Vegas who essentially gets all of its water from that river. Pretty scary.

Btw-----------is that show classified as a Reality Show? I thought it was an educational program?

Love that show. I hope they do another season. It's so much more real than Alaska the Last Frontier and that other one with the goofy family. Heimo Korth is the real deal. I also watch Life Below Zero.

I don't generally watch "reality shows", but I do like Fast N Loud on Discovery. These guys find old cars and restore them. Here's the 1956 Chevy Nomad they restored for Dale Earnhardt Jr:

I love old cars. Had a '69 GTO w/a white ragtop when I was younger. Still looking to buy another. They are expensive, though. I have also been looking for a '59 Caddy and a '63 Stingray.

You showed a pic of a '56. I actually preferred those to the '57s and '55s, which were both more popular than the '56. Loved those taillights.

When did the Corvette stop being a "Stingray"? Was '63 the last one? My brother had a 80-something Vette, it was the hardest riding vehicle I've ever been in, almost like it had no suspension. That pic is a nice one, though.

Agree on the '56 Chevy - I like the smaller, rounded tail lights much more than the fins on the '57.

I think [but not positive] that the Stingray was introduced in 1963 and ended around '67 or '68.

Unreal. It's not one of my dream cars, but it's freaking amazing.

Do you ever flip on that Mecum Auction show? I like putting it on in the background when I'm working from home. I look up, check out the car and get back to work. I don't really care about the cars price, just amazed at how amazingly preserved or restored they are.

I haven't, but I'll check it out.

I might start a Classic Car thread. I bet there are quite a few of us who love classic cars, plus it will bring back a lot of memories.
