I think the indians just need to move on from Gomes, always hurt and hasn't been productive for 3 years. Makes the Lucroy miss all the more painful, hopefully Meija gets a look next year in spring training. If Perez can just start hitting consistent we'd be ok, his defense is pretty on par with Gomes. He's thrown runners out pretty regularly. But he has to hit better, Which to his credit he's slowly coming around, hopefully he's getting caught up just in time for playoffs.. Dont we have anyone down on the farm Adam Moore and Francisco meija

8-4 Good Guys, in the top of the 8th, with 1 out ..... Andrew Miller dealing .... Let's go Tribe! If we hold on, the magic number moves to single digits at 9.

Okay, so why can't runners keep advancing just because the ball bounced like that?

I don't gamble at the sportsbook much but I think that line means that you give the casino $100. If the tigers win they keep it. If the Indians win they pay you $153.
So you risk $100 to make $53
Any of you gamblers out there please feel free to confirm or contradict.

Napolis home run just landed in Pittsburgh Again, who had 34 homers and 98 RBIs for Napoli on 9/16? Nobody. Amazing year for him. The guys on MLB Tonight were just gushing over the Indians. They were saying our outfield on opening day was putrid, almost AAA level bad. They all remembered saying our ability to contend was going to rest on Brantley's shoulders (literally, his shoulder). And that was just to contend, not lead the division and have the 4th best record in baseball. Taking Game 1 against the Tigers is big, but it was Kluber's start. It would be nice to be able to take one more from them this weekend.

If we take 1 more from Detroit and 2 from KC over the next 5 games, the regular season is just about over for the rest of the AL Central. Even as it is, if Chicago holds on and beats the Royals, the Tribe's magic numbers will be 9 and 5 against the Tigers and Royals. The Indians have 15 games left. If they win only half, they are in. (assuming they beat Detroit in one of them) I think we will wind up with 95-96 wins, when all is said and done.

Nap has been HUGE for the Tribe this year. He loves playing here, and I hope that he is willing to take just a little less than he might get elsewhere next year, so that we can bring him back.

I like how you give different magic numbers for Det and KC. I have been thinking about how to do it for days. I didn't feel like doing the math.
If we win 2 games and detroit loses 8 they are eliminated from the division title. However, if we only win 2 games and KC only loses 2 then they win the division.

The magic numbers are as follow: (after tonight's Chi-KC game ended) Detroit: 9 KC: 5 ChiSox: 3 There are 15 games left to play for the Indians and Tigers, and 16 for the Royals and ChiSox. The Indians have 8 more games in their current homestand, against the Tigers, Royals, and ChiSox. Then they go on the road for 4 at Detroit and 3 at KC. The Royals and Detroit play each other for 3, so they could help eliminate each other. If the Indians win 8 of their final 15, they win the division. I suppose that the Tigers could go undefeated, but I just don't see that happening. One really amazing thing down the stretch has been how it seems like every time we would lose a game, so would Detroit and KC, and we actually put distance between us and them even with a middling record at times. We have gone 6-4 over the past 10 games, but both the Tigers and Royals have gone 3-7, so we went from a 4 game lead to a 7 game lead. We do have a shot at having the best record in the AL. Texas has 88 wins, 3 more than we have, but they have also played 1 more game than we have. I think that this is going to be a September and October to remember.

I think that this is going to be a September and October to remember. And November. Unless the World Series ends in a sweep, at least one game will be played in November. Game 1: Tuesday, 10/27 Game 2: Wednesday, 10/28 Game 3: Friday, 10/30 Game 4: Saturday, 10/31 Game 5: Sunday, 11/1* Game 6: Tuesday, 11/3* Game 7: Wednesday, 11/4*

Okay, so why can't runners keep advancing just because the ball bounced like that? I am not watching the game. Not sure exactly what you are asking, but if the ball bounced out of play, the runners can no longer advance. Not sure if that is what happened or not, but I thought I'd try to offer a possible explanation.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Funny thing is it happened with another batter in a later inning and the announcers called it a 'something' double.

It's a ground rule double. Players are awarded and advance two bases from the base they were on when the pitch was made.

Ground rule double. For instance, at Wrigley Field where they have ivy growing on the brick outfield wall, if a ball gets lodged in the ivy, its a ground rule double. In a domed or covered stadium, if a batted ball gets stuck in or on the trusses or catwalks, its a ground rule double.

Today at 4:10 its Verlander (14-8) vs Carrasco (11-8). This year, Verlander is 0-3 against the Indians with a 9.18 ERA and a .304 BAA (batting average against). Carrasco is 2-0 vs the Tigers, with a 0.51 ERA and a .136 BAA for 2016. Its still a tough matchup though, because Verlander can really deal some nasty. On the other hand, so can Carrasco, if the good Carrasco shows up.

Oh wow.........ground rule double. I thought everyone knew that rule. Like I said earlier, I wasn't watching the game. I thought maybe he was talking about an errant throw that went out of the field of play.
I think it's good that he is asking questions, though. Shows he wants to learn.

One of the things I like about baseball is its arcane rules. Things you'd never know if you didn't play or watch for a long time. Herb Score, the late broadcaster and pitcher for the Indians used to say you'll literally see something you've never seen before almost every day in baseball. I imagine there's some fans here who remember back in the 90's, when a Carlos Martinez deep fly ball to RF bounced off Jose Canseco's head and went over the fence. It was a HR, and one of the most amazing (and hilarious) things I've ever seen in sports.

I remember that play. Hilarious.
I loved playing baseball and followed the sport religiously when I was a kid. The attention given to the steroid stories and labor disputes during the '90s angered me so much that I quit watching MLB.
I still go to college and high school games, but have not returned to watching MLB.
With that said, I hope the Indians can win it all....more for you guys than anything else.

Sounds a little like my attitude toward the NBA, for different reasons. I used to like it, although it was always a stepchild to baseball and football for me. But the Jordan era, and subsequent marketing of the NBA as a "star league" changed it for me. My perception, true or not, was that it went from being a team game to 5 guys playing one-on-one. But I was still happy for Cavs fans and my home town that they won the championship.

One of the things I like about baseball is its arcane rules. Things you'd never know if you didn't play or watch for a long time. I found one of those about 2 years ago. I think I was watching a Cubs game. It was a tie game in the 6th, the starting pitcher walks the lead off hitter and then a reliever is brought in to replace him. Most people know that the runner is the starters responsibility and could take the loss if he ends up scoring. However, it's not just that specific player on 1B, it could be the next hitter if he reaches on a fielders choice as well. So, even if the reliever gets two ground outs after coming into the game and the lead off player never comes actually touches home, the starter could still take the loss if a runner gets on via a fielders choice behind him and scores. Little stuff like that keeps me coming back.

Verlander is not as sharp on the road , we take this game it would mentally deflate the Tigers and should be good from there

Verlander had a great 2011 that he really made a name for himself, but to be honest since he's been meh for me..He's got a great w/l this year but i think that may have more to do with the offense ala josh tomlin. He hasn't been that good this year and he's giving up the long ball at an alarming rate. If we get to him early he'll be done by the 3rd/4th..Problem is he's going against jeckyl/hyde with Carrasco..who are we going to get.

The brilliant TV announcers:
"This is not what any one saw coming."
Really? Two pitches? Injury to the number two starter?
How could...never mind

i think naquin has hit the rookie wall, he is so bad at the plate right now, especially with RISP, we had 2 on, nobody out, Verlander just walked 2 straight and we don't even score..that's what leads to early exits in playoffs

Do you always cry wolf? I'm pretty sure that Naquin is not the first person to ever strike out with runners on base. Verlander will not last in this game because he is all over the place. Kipnis just put a great swing on a ball. We'll score runs sooner than later.

Biggest reason he lost playing time. Verlander is fine...you realize he's got a no hitter going right? This is following a bad habit this team has, they'll have one game a series they'll score a lot of runs then the rest it's anemic
