Because he disagrees, he doesn't respect him? Swish believes in treating everyone as equals. You seem to want to place this individual above everyone including vets who also served.

Is it possible for you to not instigate and escalate things with Swish in every thread?

Reading through all of this bickering about hero's got me thinking about how my hero's have changed down through the years.. there was always mom and dad and grandparents... then there were athletes, some because they were the best players on my favorite teams, others because I just liked the way they did things.. guys like Cal Ripken and Darrel Green.. great players, even better people.

As I got a little older I started looking at military folks, cops, firemen, etc as more every day heros..

Now that I'm older, I see heros all the time, all over the place... just otherwise ordinary people making a difference in their own lives and the lives of others. One of the people that I look up to the most right now is a 20 year old man named Jelani Allison.. I met Jelani about 4 years ago when he started coming to our church to play basketball on Sunday nights. Strong, good athlete, very quiet. He didn't say much but when he talked, other kids listened. They listened to him a lot more than they listened to me. Jelani has been homeless 3 times. He has never known his father and his mother is an addict. He just graduated because he failed 2 grades along the way. He was recruited by all of the local gangs and has seen, first hand, some horrendous things that I can't even imagine.... At basketball, he sought me out, started asking me for advice, asking me for a ride home so we could talk. When i wasn't there he sought out other adults in the program, he was always asking thoughtful questions about "the real world" and about mentor programs because he recognized that he needed a mentor.

In the last 2 years he got a job, he graduated from high school, he enlisted in the Navy, he works at the rec center with kids in similar situations to his own, he got his license, he bought a car. He wants to get out of the Navy and continue his education and get a job in youth counseling to work with these kids on a full time basis.

I'm friends with him on Facebook where he is pretty active. He posts about 4 things on Facebook... well occasionally something sports related but really just 4 things.

1. Inspirational spiritual messages about his faith in God
2. Pictures and videos of the kids he's working with and how proud of them he is.
3. Video's of himself working out, dude is ripped.
4. Every once in a while he will direct something back at the people who told him he would never amount to anything, that the Navy would never happen, that his graduation would never happen, that he would be in jail by now, etc.

He saved their texts, tweets, and other messages they sent him telling him he was a failure, that he would never make it out, that he shouldn't even try.. and these were TEACHERS, these were adult friends, these were people who SHOULD HAVE BEEN encouraging him the whole time.

This Sunday I get to stand up at church and talk about the upcoming year in our basketball program and I'm going to have him stand with me.. and I'm going to tell his story and I can tell you right now, I'm going to cry.

I could not be any more proud of this young man if he was my own son.. from where he started, to where he could have gone, to where he ended up... he is an inspiration to me every day to do more, to be better, to stop whining, to not judge, to stop talking and act...

So if you want hero's, look around... they are everywhere and they are in places you might not expect. You might already be somebody's hero and not even know it.

If you promise not to get upset with my freedom of speech and right to protest. I'll promise not to get upset with your right to bear arms.

Its not just Swish, it is every single person in every single thread. Every time I see his name on a thread I click it to see who hes bickering with, and I have been right, without exception, now that I said that, I am sure I will be invited to "meet up" .

Yep, I didnt even him call him one, but referred to him as a certain colorful circus character in replying to someone else, and I got banned for three days. He calls people dumba''''' and idiots all the time and absolutely nothing happens to him. HE consistently states how stupid everyone is, and nothing happens. Oh but dont let me use some colorful language in a PM to him. I got a week for that.
