With two quarterbacks injured, the Browns are signing Charlie Whitehurst, according to his agent.

Robert Griffin III and Josh McCown are both dealing with injuries -- with RG3 on injured reserve -- leaving rookie Cody Kessler as the only healthy option on the roster. Kessler will still most likely start against the Dolphins with Whitehurst providing the Browns with a backup option.

Whitehurst, a 34-year-old journeyman and former third-round pick, is now onto his fifth team after spending multiple years with the Chargers and the Seahawks, and single seasons with the Titans and Colts the past two years. In his career, Whitehurst has completed 55.1 percent of his passes, averaged 6.13 yards per attempt, and thrown 10 touchdowns and seven picks. His career passer rating sits at 74.7. In the past two seasons, Whitehurst has appeared in just 11 games.

Clearly, he's a last-ditch option. Still, the Browns need a backup quarterback. RG3 is reportedly out 10-12 weeks and McCown is dealing with a shoulder injury. And Kessler has never started a game in his short career. His first test will be the Dolphins, a team that looked solid defensively against the Seahawks and poor against the Patriots.
Regardless of how that test goes, Kessler will end up starting a game before No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff makes his debut for the Rams.

Presumably because he worked with Pep Hamilton in Indy and will know the offense.

but yeah, Charlie Whitehurst sucks. This is no good. Just my opinion.

Because they signed one of the few available veteran QBs that have experience with someone on our coaching staff? You are just looking to complain about anything (which is not surprsing).

Well, we needed someone...but jeez, was he really the best we could find? Makes the people joking about Tebow actually seem more sane.

People are mad because Aaron Rodgers isn't waiting for us to call in the offseason and isn't sitting on the waiver wire after we've gone through 2 qbs in as many weeks.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Browns are starting rookie 3rd round pick in week 3, third on depth chart 10 days ago. We had to get a body. Maybe Kessler will light it.....

Wentz playing very well again tonight. Glad we passed on him and relied on 2 guys made of balsa wood.

Who knows, Kessler could be the next Wentz. smile

Yeah cause I said that. Sorry clipboard Jesus is scraping the bottom but yeah I keep forgetting to put you on ignore because your comprehension is pretty pathetic and always like to stir the pot. Proving you provide nothing to the topics as usual.

Wentz played well, but Chicago was missing both starting Safeties, their NCB, and a LB. Once those players went out, (all lost during the game) and Hoyer came into the game. The Bears completely fell apart.

Oh, and as far as Whitehurst ... he's a guy with experience ..... but I am not excited about this signing. Of course, barring luring Favre or someone out of retirement ... this is the kind of move we could make at this point in the season.

We could, maybe, trade for a backup ..... but how many good backups are out there ..... and who wants to let a good backup go?

It's difficult to have "comprehension" when you are responding to this:

"seriously though, like we need anymore confirmation this is clueless on qbs"

Perhaps I wrongfully assumed it was supposed to say this:

"seriously though, like we need anymore confirmation this front office is clueless on qbs"

If that's the case, then yes, you are just looking for a reason to complain.

These are the days of our lives when you don't make having a stud offensive line a priority.

When there is no pocket a QB won't stay in it ala RG3 or they sit in the dog chit and get nailed ala Josh.

What is really super scary is that Joe Thomas is looking at this mess and thinking do I really wanna wake up everyday to train for this garbage? Why don't I just be happy as a multi-millionaire and enjoy playing with my kids instead ... OH THE FRICK'IN NIGHTMARE THAT WILL BE!!!

I think I'd rather have Tebow, at least he would put butts in seats. Does this guy perform any miracles like turning gatorade into wine?

I wonder what move we make to add Whitehurst to the roster?

That is hilarious. Who is the little guy in green between Griffin and Manziel? He's the only one I didn't recognize.

Some folks complain about this signing, but I hear nothing about the other options?

He's a veteran backup who will hopefully never play. My only minor concern is how do we make room, but it was gonna happen regardless.

I'm not even sure who the other options were,, he may be the best of the worst available.

I just don't know

Depends on how long McCown's out and if RG3 comes back. I do expect more injuries. Possibly to the people already hurt.

I'd rather see Hogan get snaps than Whitehurst come week 8.

sick
