Not sure this is where it should go. He is a player on our team, but this isn't technically football.

Not sure the league would have jurisdiction here either.

This arrest warrant is for a paternity test. The subject line is a little misleading.

Browns receiver Josh Gordon slapped with warrant in paternity case

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A judge issued a warrant for the arrest of Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon after he failed to respond to several months worth of subpoenas in a paternity case.

Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court Judge Alison Floyd authorized the arrest warrant Aug. 31.

Gordon is prohibited from speaking to the media because of his four-game substance abuse suspension. cleveland.com is attempting to reach his agent to talk about the case.

The case stems from a complaint made in juvenile court from Christina Lockhart of Maple Heights, who says Gordon is the father of her now 1-year-old daughter.

Lockhart filed the complaint July 2, 2015, saying no one else is presumed to be the father, other than Gordon.

Lockhart is on public welfare and is seeking child support from Gordon, according to the complaint filed by Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Kira Kittoe Krivosh.

Subpoenas were sent to Gordon in Los Angeles, and several Cleveland addresses. Gordon never responded to them, according to court records.

Gordon was ordered to provide a DNA sample to the court by Sept. 25, 2015, but never did so.

After Gordon failed to show up to the hearing on Aug. 31, prosecutors asked Floyd to issue an arrest warrant.

Screw Cromartie, I'm having a laugh. Although this is definitely lighter than his usual reasons for making headlines, doesn't take away from the fact this kid just can't be on the straight and narrow.

He could've resolved this by taking ten minutes of his time. Factoring he was suspended all year, as usual, he should've had an abundance of time.

This kid is just a moron. And you Gordon lovers and believers, just save it. There's nothing you can tell me to convince me otherwise.

They have if it makes the league look bad. Anything he does that draws unwanted attention can be used against him.....I imagine one of the conditions of his reinstatement was to stay out of jail.

So on top of everything else, meathead is a deadbeat dad. Doesn't that just figure..... I knew he was a loser and of course a meathead, but I had no idea he was a scumbag to boot.

Things like having a child don't just happen. When you get a woman pregnant though, you do what is RIGHT. You take responsibility and support your child. Even if you have no desire to be with the mother, you support your kid. You pay child support and you set up visitation. Period. You don't just walk away and pretend it didn't happen. Not meathead though. He only cares about ONE person. Himself. On top of all that how absolutely stupid is this guy just blowing off court dates? When a judge tells you to appear you better fricken appear. The warrant was probably for contempt of court and he could do a little time for that depending on the judges mood.... Hope he does. I despise deadbeat dads.

If the child isn't his, it should be easy enough for him to take a test and prove it. I know it is a hassle, but he doesn't have much going on these next couple weeks anyway. Perfect time to do it.

And they're just NOW getting to it??

Sounds like somebody dragged their feet pressing the issue when it looked like his NFL career was over, but renewed things once he was cleared to be reinstated.

Still - he's gotta man-up. Time to be an adult, Josh - go get your blood drawn.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy how things can get tied up in the judicial system.

Updated list of life advice for Josh:

- Lay off the weed
- No more purple drank
- Don't drink and drive
- Scratch that, don't drink at all
- Wrap it up

In Josh's case, "good" is relative. Anything that doesn't get him killed, arrested, or suspended counts as a good decision.

The thing is, it is so easy to prove: Yes, he is the father - so man up. No, he's not the father.

Take a test.....Why let it go this long. If he's not the father - BAM. If he is, he's going to have to pay back child support regardless.

Josh Gordon complies with DNA request in paternity suit

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon appeared in court Wednesday after a warrant was issued for his arrest in connection with a paternity suit that says he's father the father of 1-year-old girl.

The warrant was withdrawn after Gordon appeared in Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court, according to attorneys on both sides of the case.

Gordon submitted a DNA test after the hearing on Wednesday at DNA Diagnostics Center in Cleveland. A hearing is scheduled for Nov. 8.

"Josh was made aware that he was required to appear in court on a case he was unaware of," his attorney, Kevin Spellacy said in an interview. "He immediately got in touch with us and we notified the court. He stopped what he was doing and complied with the court order."

Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court Judge Alison Floyd issued an arrest warrant Aug. 31 after numerous for Gordon to submit to a DNA test went ignored for more than a year.

The mother's attorney, Joseph Stafford, said he was alerted by the court that Gordon appeared in court about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, some two hours after the arrest warrant was made public.

Stafford said the case has been difficult for the girl's mother, Christina Lockhart of Maple Heights, because it has dragged on for more than a year.

"It's a difficult proceeding because you have an individual who is a professional athlete that doesn't comply with the court," Stafford said. "He knows who the mother is, he knows who the child is, but for whatever reason, he chose to disregard the court's orders."

Stafford said the process for paternity cases are relatively simple. Stafford said the lab typically takes a swab from someone's cheek to obtain the DNA. The sample will be tested against mother's and baby's DNA.

The test results are expected to be returned before the Nov. 8 hearing.

Stafford said if the DNA test shows Gordon is the girl's father, a judge will set up a child support payment plan, starting at the beginning of the girl's life. The child support payments will be based on Gordon's salary and or any other money he makes.

Stafford said the NFL and other organizations have complied with subpoenas in regard to Gordon's finances. Gordon was not paid by the Browns last season because of a yearlong suspension.

He is set to make $1 million this season for the Browns. Gordon is serving a four-game suspension this season for a failed drug test in March.

Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot reported that an NFL spokesman said the paternity suit would not affect Gordon's eligibility to return to the Browns for their Week 5 matchup against the New England Patriots.

This girl hope to be hitting the CS Lottery! I think any man should pay for his children, but it seems funny that a girl he obviously doesn't care for has been raising his baby on welfare and Josh ignored the situation with all he has been going through to get back on track.

I don't buy it. It might be his kid, but I don't buy that he was intentionally dodging this court order, not as fragile as his chances to re-ignite his career have been.

I won't be surprised if it's not his kid, not at all.

Ignoring a subponea always ends with a judge ordering your arrest. It doesn't just go away.
