So they were going to be let go anyways.

And didn't claim publicly to prefer Wentz until after he beat us.

Cool story.

My wife is having surgery tomorrow, so I had to drive back to SC from Ohio today. Listened to sports talk on the way down. The Browns are getting ripped and so are the Rams. Deservedly so.

I pictured in my mind the responses from many guys on this board and you did not disappoint. The position of "we should not have drafted Wentz because he would have broken here" is beyond absurd.

So, we should never take a franchise QB? What?????????

The Browns could have kept Mack and Schwartz. They could have drafted Wentz and spent some of that money on weapons. But no, our guys said he was NOT a top 20 QB and passed on him.

Look, y'all can be in denial all you want, but this is the kind of move that costs people their jobs.

We'll see.............

As for the scouts, it's a non issure to me. I don't think they were fired because they liked Wentz. They were replaced because scouts are replaced all the time, especially after a change at the top.

I agree Wentz is not a sure thing to maintain his current form.... but you have to admit, it's not the stats or the wins, it's the eye test. The game simply does not look to big for him. I wasn't sold on drafting him. I liked the trade and the picks we took with them. I like next year's draft picks. BUT ~ If we could have a do over? I'd be taking Wentz with no hesitation.

Having said all that - if they missed on Wentz. So what? Is that the be all and end all? If they get 50% of their draft picks right they will be doing GREAT. Do we need to go atomic because Wentz looks great? Personally not.

Your thoughts our mine exactly. The Browns and Eagles were at two different points before the draft. The Browns couldn't take a chance on a D2 QB with an injury history that was anything but a sure bet. Hindsight being 20/20...yeah I'd take him now. However, it was two games against weaker competition. I saw Derek Anderson tear the league up for half a year, Hoyer a few years are ago for half a year, RG3 during his rookie year. Wentz has passed his current test but overall he still has a lot to prove.

The Browns went young and so far I have seen some promise in our team, I can see a possible core team being shaped. I'm not concerned with Wentz, good luck to him, hope his team loses the rest of his games this year so we can get a better pick but other than that I don't care how he plays. For the Browns he means nothing from hear on out. It's all about our young guys and what they do the rest of the year.

I wasn't in favor of taking Wentz, also wanted nothing to do with Goff.

However, even before the draft, looking at how Oakland and to a point Jacksonville let their rookie QBS start right away and built around them..

I wanted that.

I think we punted that idea for at least a year, maybe they like Watson alot and are willing to pay whatever it is to get him, hell we will probably have a great chance of it anyways..

I just really hope all this talk about Wentz isn't people already wanting to get rid of everyone..

FYI Schwartz has been awful in KC. Chiefs fans are pissed at how he's played.

Yeah, that was a tough game to basically start a career with a new team

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

I don't like the idea of just planning on taking your FRANCHISE QB next year. That just screams to me you expect to be in position to draft 1 or 2 again.

To me you take him when he is there...You already earned that early pick. If you take Wentz this year and you are still the number 2 pick...then you trade down for more picks with your franchise QB in place and a year under his belt.

I think Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger make average players look good....not the other way around.

Just my thoughts....more than one way to skin a cat.

HACK

I get where you're coming from Hack and it does make a certain degree of sense.

However, look at the choice that the Browns were presented with.

On one hand, we have Carson Wentz....guy with all the physical tools but played against questionable competition in a run-heavy offense. Pro system- great....but the Div 2 stigma is a heavy one.

On the other, we have the Eagles offering us 2 first rounders, a second round, a third round and a 4th round.

The situation we're in....loads of holes and a desperate need to have our first rounder mean something.

Bottom line, Wentz represented too much of a risk. He's turning out to look pretty good- but hindsight is 20/20. The Browns made the smart, lower risk move and traded the pick.

Plus with the resulting trading down, we turned that one pick into 8 picks- 5 players currently on the team, a first and second next year and a third in 2018.

Does it suck to see a QB that could have been ours doing good things? Sure. But did we lose in this? Sure doesn't look like to to me.
