I think that we just might have something with this kid.

There is a video in the link, where he just shoved Baltimore's LT right back into Flacco.

Tyrone Holmes sees an opportunity with Cleveland Browns he never got in Jacksonville | cleveland.com
http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ss...art_river_index

BEREA, Ohio -- When the Jacksonville Jaguars cut Tyrone Holmes on September 3, it didn't take long to find fans of theirs on Twitter unhappy with the move. Holmes, the 6-foot-2, 253-pound end, laughed when that was brought up to him.

"I guess I'm in the same line of thinking as them," Holmes said. "I guess I would like to know (why), too."

The Jaguars were likely hoping to sneak Holmes through waivers, but it didn't happen. The Browns claimed him the day after he was waived. Getting claimed by another team meant a lot to Holmes, a sixth-round pick back in April.

"It validates the work that you put in, knowing that people notice what you can do on the football field," he said. "In that sense, it's cool and then you get another opportunity to go out there and prove yourself. It adds fuel to the fire as far as wanting to go out there and prove to everybody what you can do."

That work started at Eagle Point High School in Oregon. Holmes said he was the first person from his school since the 1980s to get a Division I scholarship. He went to Montana, a Football Championship Subdivision program.

"It's not a very highly recruited school and area, really, in southern Oregon," he said.

Holmes had committed to Portland State. That changed, though, when the Montana's coaching staff saw film of him.

"We didn't know much about Tyrone," Legi Suiaunoa, his defensive line coach at Montana and now the defensive line coach at Hawaii, said. "We actually came across Tyrone about two weeks before signing day. Our head coach had a friend down in the area, and he had contacted our head coach and from there we watched his film, and when I watched his film it was a done deal. We wanted him. I wanted to get the kid on our team and so I flew down there and saw him."

Suiaunoa said that in the short time he had to get to know Holmes, it was clear he came from a great background with a great family. He also believes that the vibe around the school matched what Holmes was looking for, a belief Holmes confirms.

"It was just cool because (Missoula) was an actual college town," Holmes said. "Football is life out there. If you've ever heard about Montana football, in that town and that area and for the state it's just as big as any other program. So to go out there and get a big-time football experience was really fun."

It ended up being a solid choice for Holmes. He played immediately, including starting a few games, and was only the second player Suiaunoa had worked with during his career who played as a true freshman.

"I played my freshman year and had a pretty good year for a freshman," Holmes said. "Then, my sophomore and junior year I played well but I left a lot of plays out there. I should have had higher numbers and more production."

"That's absolutely right," Suiaunoa said when asked about Holmes' assessment.

"His junior year, I can't remember off the top of my head, but we're always counting missed opportunities where we should have made a big play for our defense, a negative play, and I want to say he was in the double digits," Suiaunoa said. "He worked so hard to get to the quarterback, to get to the running back in the backfield, he just didn't get him down."

That meant that the point of emphasis for Holmes the offseason between his junior and senior years was finishing. He responded by registering 18 sacks and won the FCS Defensive Player of the Year.

"I guess, going into my senior year, it was just like that sense of urgency and I just knew that I had to take better advantage of the opportunities that were presented to me as far as getting the quarterback on the ground and not missing sacks," Holmes said.

"He's always been around the quarterback since his freshman year at Montana," Suiaunoa said. "The difference is, his senior year, he was able to get him down more frequently."

That production was enough for Jacksonville to include him in a defense-heavy draft class that started with No. 5 pick Jalen Ramsey. Holmes was one of six defensive players drafted by the Jaguars, but Holmes fell victim to the team's roster cut-down to 53.

That's how Holmes ended up in Cleveland, a team he says he had no contact with before the draft and a city which he knew little about other than the fact LeBron James is from the area.

"It was their decision to release me and God has a plan for everything," Holmes said, "and it worked out and I'm here and I'm happy and playing."

"I think (the Browns) got a treat," Suiaunoa said. "I think they got somebody that's very competitive, somebody that's still developing as a football player. I think he's a kid that's relentless on the football field. He's going to work his tail off to do what is necessary to help his team win. His work ethic is second-to-none in terms of guys I've coached throughout the years."

Holmes was inactive against Philadelphia, but made it onto the field for 10 snaps on Sunday against Baltimore. He managed a 76.4 grade from Pro Football Focus and managed three quarterback hurries, according to Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleski.
His opportunities along the line are likely to increase this week in Miami with rookie Carl Nassib out with a broken hand. If he learned anything from his time at Montana, it's that when you get opportunities, you'd better make the most of them.

"I have to know that I have to take advantage of whatever reps I get and when I get out there try to make the biggest impact possible," he said. "It's just the beginning."

i'm intrigued by him as well. he has the athleticism certainly

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I wanted to add more information.

This kid looks like the kind of player we have been targeting with the current front office. He is a pas rusher. I read up on him a bit once I read this article, and he seems to have good speed/strength for the position, despite being only 250#, or so.

He played only 10 snaps against Baltimore, but had 3 QB pressures. I am really interested in seeing how he does. He will get more opportunities with Nassib out for at least a few more games.

Here is some more info on him:

His opportunities along the line are likely to increase this week in Miami with rookie Carl Nassib out with a broken hand.

The Jaguars reportedly wanted to get him on their practice squad, and tried to sneak him through waivers. He was 4th on their depth chart.

The article explained why. They had a D heavy draft.

Sometimes you can't keep everybody. Other positional needs mean good players at another position have to be dropped.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

We drafted a lot of guys that tested high on SPARQ. That had a major influence on our draft.

Let me guess, SPARQ results showed that Wentz didn't rate a top 20 draft pick.

Wentz got the greatest score ever to be scored, he's the best QB of all time ney best player of all time he should be inducted into the Hall of Fame by seasons end.

No. I know you want to hate on the "Harvard Boys" - but here:

https://3sigmaathlete.com/rankings/qb/

Wentz was 8th on the list - Cody was way down at 38. I guess you think that the FO is looking at a bunch of stats and picking players - and not looking at film or taking other football related considerations into account... despite the fact that in short sample seen so far, we have some good talent acquired in this years draft?

I like the video in the link. You don't need spin moves and freakish speed when you can just overpower someone. GET OUTTA MY WAY!

We'll see though. Hard to get excited about young players but possibly do indeed have something here. I'm not a big fan of Cooper yet. Last year and this year, just not many great plays.

I have seen the kid play in Portland when Montana rolled into town to play Portland State. He is good and a local Oregonian (well, down near Medford). I am excited to see him get his chance. We will definitely need him to step up.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm............too early to say Wentz is a good player, but not too early to say Holmes is a good player.

I saw the words "intrigued" and "might have something." I didn't see anyone say future Hall of Famer.

We're not allowed to see the positive when a guy some of us liked pre-draft is added to the team?

I don't think anyone was anointing him.

Besides, fan comes from fanatics, right?

According to the newest Madden update, Tyrone has 85 speed..

Which for a DE, is ridiculous.

Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

Well if that's true we could basically trade a 2nd, 5th, and 7th for anyone we want.

If you were cut by another team like Tyronew was and you think your good enough to play in the NFL than Cleveland is the place to go to. We need players and I'm sure our Browns will give them a fair shot. They as well as us have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Hope we can find some good players. thumbsup

To play defense in today's NFL at 6'2", 253 lbs you would have to be very athletic.

You're either going up against 300+ lbs linemen every snap (DL) or you're running around (LB).

James Harrison is 6', 242#s.
Brandon Graham plays DE and is listed as 6'2", 265#s.

As a pass rusher, I think he'll be fine.
His style kind of reminds me of Harrison, and I think he'll be able to get to Graham's size if he needs to.

Hoping to see something good here. This guy is real help perhaps. We need pressure. It is not coming from the middle and we need it with regularity. Welcome aboard, and play your butt off for us. Good luck.
Go Browns!
