Yes, his second draft is much better than the first. I remember complaining about that first draft right away. However, the national media was talking about how good it was [they love the sexy picks] and most people on the board were so thrilled w/what Savage had done. Two years later and people are making up excuses, such as he didn't have time to put his staff together. LOL
The second draft was not as highly praised as the first, but it's apparent it's going to be a better draft. Of course, it would be hard to be worse. I like Wimbley a lot. He is one-dimensional right now, but I think he has the right attitude. DQ is okay. I don't know......but I haven't really seen what others have seen in him. I think most of his tackles are late, as in, he is the second man in. He gets caught in traffic too much. However, he did start, so that's a plus. Wilson.......I haven't seen enough to know. I like how people say he caught "everything" thrown his way last year. Uhmmm...he had two catches. Leon Williams is active. I like that in a LBer. Hopefully, Harrison is one-fourth the player most think he is. He didn't show me anything in a real game last year. However, I have heard some positives about him from camp this year. Of course, the guy reporting it is a little biased. *L*
And this past draft. We got Joe so that's great. However, the gambles are either going to make or break this regime. After the top 3 picks, it looks to be a pretty non-descript draft.

Eight picks, rounds 3-7 are all gone or buried on the depth chart (please- no Frye arguements- BQ is our QB). Only the #3 overall and #34 (that's almost 2 1st rounders) are starters and neither has set the world on fire.
I dont understand.. BQ is NOT our QB..he's the 3rd QB as of right now..

I agree with most of that.
My feeling is after round 3...maybe 4....it is pretty much luck anyway.
We can always point to this guy or that guy, but for the most part you end up with a whole bunch of players who are ranked about the same and there isn't much to differentiate one from the other.
You also have to factor in the fact you may have 4-5 guys targeted in various slots, but they have to be there.
Would it be a true statement to say that many teams are pretty much targeting the same players??

its way to EARLY TO JUDGE THE 05 DRAFT AT THIS POINT ...
WAY TO EARLY ...
All we know at this point is that we MISSED in the 4th ... and if we cut someone else we MISSED with that 2nd day pick .. LIKE ALMOST EVERY OTHER TEAM ....
this was a WEAK ASS DRAFT from top to bottom ... thats a FACT ... ask anyone that follows the NFL draft ...
and I'm not making excuses for Opie .. just stating the TRUTH and some FACTS ... I'm a BIG PIC GUY ... that was year 1 of his BUILDING of the BROWNS .....
talk to me in 2 years .. then we can give this draft its FIRST FAIR GRADE ... at this point were half way through the school year with this class getting ready for mid terms ...
SO FAR is doesnt look good at all .. but like i said ... ITS STILL EARLY ...

Well darn, I was hoping that Ricard would do well. After all he is familiar with Jamal Lewis' style. I haven't been particularly fond of Vickers. Looks like everyone else disagrees.

I'm not sure the love with Vickers either. The guy is an athletic FB, but even in running situations last year, he didn't do much for me. I'm not sure that's such a big deal though, given the 48200 TE's the Browns have.

i dont agree w/ that completely.. cuz we can almost already judge the effects of the 06 draft with the success of Wimbley and D'Qwell..

I agree it is too early to judge the draft overall. If Braylon becomes the starter most expected, Pool is able to elevate his game to become a good starter and Frye can become a solid backup I will be very happy. Second day draft picks are a crap shoot but he did miss on every one.
People say what a weak class it was but 12 4th rounders are currently starters. Chances should of been greater for us to pick pick up contributors considering the complete lack of talent on our roster.

Perkins has been claimed by Colts: http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/10232987INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Colts claimed defensive back Antonio Perkins off waivers from Cleveland on Thursday. A fourth-round draft pick out of Oklahoma in 2005, Perkins had two tackles in six games with the Browns the past two seasons. He also returned three kickoffs as a rookie. The Colts also waived offensive guard Matt Tarullo, who was acquired last month after being waived by the New York Giants.
Signing Steinbach - $49.5 million Signing Lewis - $5 million Drafting Joe Thomas and Brady Quinn - millions more Restoring the Browns to champions - priceless.

I like him too. I think he might be the odd man out if we don't cut McGinnest.

McMillan absolutely is awful at defending the run. And w/the problems we have at stopping the run......well....let's just say that the kid is on his last legs.
And McGinnest played better than people thought last year. He was very disciplined and when he couldn't play, our run D struggled even more than normal. I hope he is healthy this year....he never really was healthy last year. We need to squeeze another year out of him.

If alot of two TE sets are used, four TEs may be kept on the roster: Winslow, Heiden, Dinkins and Krause.
Concerning the 2005 draft: Edwards and Pool are solid starters. McMillan and Hoffman are still on the roster, but it's likely that at least one of them will be gone by September. That leaves Frye. Will the quality of the 2005 draft be determined , years from now , by the play of Frye this coming season? IMO it probably will.........
