Josh Gordon was supposed to return to the Cleveland Browns after Week 4, when his NFL suspension was over. That plan is on hold now. The team announced that Gordon, who has dealt with substance-abuse issues through his football career, will enter an in-patient rehab facility. The announcement included a statement from Gordon, saying he needed to “step away from pursuing my return to the Browns and my football career.” Gordon has been suspended multiple times by the NFL, and had substance-abuse issues in college as well at Baylor and Utah. Gordon has played just five games since the end of the 2013 season because of NFL suspensions. He missed all of last season. The last time he played close to a full season was 2013, when he led the NFL with 1,646 yards. Gordon was back in the news last week, when he was issued an arrest warrant for failing to respond to multiple subpoenas in a paternity case. That warrant didn’t affect the length of his NFL suspension. Gordon is 25 years old. He has plenty of time to get his life, and maybe his football career, back on track. He appears to be taking the steps necessary to get that done. https://www.yahoo.com/news/browns-announce-josh-gordon-will-enter-rehab-facility-213844762.html
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I have stood by Josh since he joined the Browns. He really does have a good heart, but as far as his football career goes he is done as far as I am concerned. Stupid is as stupid does and IMO he just burned his last bridge in Cleveland.
I AM ALWAYS RIGHT... except when I am wrong.

I moved a thread regarding this to Tailgate as the story and subsequent comments were all about his off the field problems.
I will leave this thread up IF the conversation is about his loss to the football team, how this affects the outlook of the team's wide receivers, should the Browns have traded him, things related to football and the Browns, etc.
If it turns into the usual discussion about whether he's an addict, has mental issues, etc., this will be locked and those who wish to continue that sort of conversation can do it in Tailgate.

Gee ... What a shocker .. NOT ... anyone paying attention knew what him and his partying buddy were doing in LA ... It was only a matter of time ..
Wonder how long after he gets out of rehab before he ...
Rinse and REPEAT ..

well, this puts a damper on things.
I hope it was his choice and not a Browns mandate because they knew he would be trouble

The one good thing is that the cupboard is not completely bare at WR this year.
Pryor's emergence has been amazing, and Coleman has had a promising start before he broke his hand. Louis shows promise, and I think that Higgins is going to break through as well. I am disappointed, but not surprised, that Gordon is again struggling with his demons, but at least we have some promising players on the team to replace him.

general reply. He was out indefinitely , fine! used to it. Then, out of no where, He's coming back week 4. Horray! I mean, if you really LOVE the Cleveland Browns, and put your heart, following this roster and the ups and downs. Alright! But Hey, Now, on the cusp of re instatement, ... Um NAAA! Something else is going to happen. ( IN Voice of Advertsier ) Hey Browns fans, Tired of that let down feeling only on game day? Now you can feel that on Thursday when the team is not even playing.) I consider a Days without injury clock at government facilities and factories. It's the days without devastating or bad news as a Browns fans clock, and set it BACK TO ZERO. Has it even been over a certain amount of days, anytime in the last 10 years.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Oh, He Can't score any touchdowns in Rehab He can't block anybody in Rehab. He WAS, THE!!! most impactful player on the team in 201?. He is 25 years old; and healthy. ( as far as we know).

If we can shed a positive light on it - if he has bigger issues and demons than he realized, and he is genuinely coming to that realization by himself and not because he failed another drug test or whatever else might have happened to ban him for life .... good. I hope he gets his schtick together. If he does it in a constructive fashion and in communication and partnership with the Browns organization (if they want to stand by him) then great.
If he does this in the right way I can't think why the Browns would cut ties with him. If he returned he would still be the most gifted athlete on the team, demons or no.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

What has he been doing all this time? Why was he not in rehab if the issues persisted?
Why does he wait until the week before his return?
My thought is that maybe, regardless of what he says, he does not want to play for the Browns and he was hoping for a trade. Returning to a winless and struggling team may not be his desire.
My concern is where has he been? If the Browns were his future, or any NFL team for that matter, he would have been in rehab, not waiting until his imminent return.
Unfortunately, this guy seems to be in the "Manziel Messed" up category.
He probably should look for a new career.

well that sucks for my Fantasy team. but good for him. and the Browns appear to be supporting his decision. as far as football goes. this hurts our offense. I really having Gordon and Pryor on the outside and Barnidge and louis up the middle. we could have had something really good happening. I guess the rooks have to really step up now.

How this affects the team? It doesn't. He was never here. If they thought they could count on meathead they were fooling themselves. Is anyone at all in the dark as to why he did this now? We have Pryor and we have Coleman when he heals up and a plethora of other young WR's we drafted. It is way past time for us to move on....

They drafted a bunch of wide receivers for a reason. We had none.

it's safe to say that his career is gone up in smoke
hr probably smoked... the nfl told him to pee in a cup before he could get reinstated. Instead, he went to rehab
Hunter + Dart = This is the way.

Now, does this mean his suspension is still active? He didn't count as a roster spot, nor against the payroll while on suspension, so if he's in rehab, does that change his status?

Of course having Gordon helps your team as your opponents have to make adjustments. He is THAT good. To see him with Pryor and Coleman would have been great. But, I guess I can't get too worked up about this as he never really seemed to be part of the team anyway. I wish him the best and hope he can get off the junk, straighten his life out and live a happy life. Clearly he has demons and this is the best thing for him.
Onward and forward we go. T. Pryor is the man! Everything about Pryor is exciting, encouraging and inspiring. He lives and breathes being a Cleveland Brown. I now want to see Higgins, Louis and Payton more involved as Pryor can't do it all every week.

This would put him on the non-football injury list I am guessing? If so, the Browns aren't required to pay him, he doesn't take up roster space and the team holds onto his rights.
No need to cut him - it's like when a player retires; his last team holds his rights if he ever decides to come back and play again.

Does it say anywhere in there that he actually used drugs again? He might just be feeling those urges and trying to stop himself before he crosses that line. People should not always assume the worst in others when you don't have any proof of it.
I suspect he is possibly dealing with depression or mental health issues as much as anything and learning he possibly knocked some piece of fluff from a party probably has him going loony.
IF he hasn't broken the substance abuse policy and is in rehab to stop it from starting up again I imagine he can come back at anytime. This season is a lost cause for the most part. I'd rather he do what he needs to to make sure he can save his career. Hopefully with the browns after he is all cleaned up and ready to be a monster player.
Until then it's not like he is eating up a roster spot ...
You can't fix stupid but you can destroy ignorance. When you destroy ignorance you remove the justifications for evil. If you want to destroy evil then educate our people. Hate is a tool of the stupid to deal with what they can't understand.

Statements from Browns WR Josh Gordon and EVP of football operations Sashi Brown Posted 6 hours ago Clevelandbrowns.com @Browns Facebook Statement from Josh Gordon “After careful thought and deep consideration I’ve decided that I need to step away from pursuing my return to the Browns and my football career to enter an in-patient rehabilitation facility. This is the right decision for me and one that I hope will enable me to gain full control of my life and continue on a path to reach my full potential as a person. I appreciate the support of the NFL, NFLPA, the Browns, my teammates, my agent and the community through this extremely challenging process.” Statement from Executive VP of Football Operations Sashi Brown on Josh Gordon “We support Josh in taking this step to seek additional help and treatment. His singular focus must be on his own health. We want nothing more than for Josh to be successful personally and professionally and will not comment on his status with the organization at this time.” http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/arti...b7-bcb573b9ae7c

Does anyone else think that he might have failed a drug test, and checked himself into rehab preemptively?

I also wanted to add:
I suspect that he will return from suspension, and immediately go on the NFI (None Football Injury) list. he would not be paid in that case, and he wold not, to the best of my knowledge, accrue any time towards free agency.

I think, maybe hope, that he found out he's a father, and that was the trigger he needed to grow up, and do the "right thing"
He may still never play for us again, and that sucks, because he's super talented, and would fit in perfectly in our WR Corps.
But if this is what he needs to do, to be a dad, then there's nothing wrong with it.
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

In what way has meathead cpntributed to the Browns? So we are all supposed to wait year after year for this idiot to grow a brain? Why? Cut his dumb ass and be done with it..... But guys like you just HAVE to hold on. Someday, maybe, possibly he will get it together and SAVE the Browns. *snicker* Sure, and pigs will fly. I have no feelings one way or the other toward meathead. I just know he's a loser and he always will be. If he wasn't he'd be playing next week actually contributing to the TEAM. No no not old meathead. He's too busy with his own crap to the think about the team..... I TOLD YOU SO!

When the sun burns out the dumbass will still be on the roster and certain fans will still be singing the praises of good old meathead. Why without him on the team we would be in real trouble. He's our best player and always comes through in a pinch. LMAO

Does anyone else think that he might have failed a drug test, and checked himself into rehab preemptively? This was my first thought. The timing is curious, to say the least. He's been out of the game for over a year, and now, on the brink of his return, he enters rehab. Why now? My guess is he is either not off of the stuff, or is afraid to hit the field again. Could be wrong, but this is my speculation. This is why any plans that rely on him are foolish.

I personally am glad he's facing his demons. The reason doesn't matter, the fact is he's doing it. Glad for him. At age 64 I have lost way too many friends to alcohol and drugs over the years because they couldn't get right. Seen way too many 'Stars' fall. If he gets control of this disease THEN he can focus on the rest of his life. Very Best of Luck to Josh.

but is he REALLY doing this to face his demons ... I mean was he pushed into this by the Browns/NFL? Did he fail a test and thought this would help ignore that? Seems like an odd time to suddenly have an epiphany

Not our problem... it's his. If he went voluntarily he has a hope of cleaning up. If not no hope. Most here seriously didn't think he would ever be back. Every addict has a story.... recovering ones live to tell about it. Speculate till the sun burns out....
