DETROIT -- Andrew Miller walked over to the whiteboard that hangs on a wall outside the visitor's clubhouse at Comerica Park and he went to work with the orange marker.
BP: 11 am
A few clubhouse attendants and front-office employees laughed as the lanky left-hander dropped the marker and headed back toward the champagne- and Budweiser-soaked room.
No one is taking batting practice at 11 a.m. Who knows if the Indians' players will even be awake by 11 a.m.?
This wasn't a small gathering or a sophisticated gala. This was a rowdy, raucous release after six months of twists and turns, ups and downs, adversity and redemption. The journey isn't over; the Indians have guaranteed themselves at least a five-game series blessed with October pressure and spotlight. For one night, though, they could put on the postseason gear and goggles, pour the bubbly, soak each other and celebrate the franchise's first division title in nine years.
"They deserve every minute of it," said manager Terry Francona, moments after he wiped some champagne off of his glasses. "I want them to celebrate. They should be so proud of what they did. We're proud of them. It's hard. There's a lot that goes into winning a division. They deserve every minute of joy they have in there."
Terry Francona wants Indians to blow it out The players gathered on the infield once Cody Allen struck out Cameron Maybin to secure the victory and the American League Central.
"I looked for [Mike Napoli]. And I looked for Ramirez," said shortstop Francisco Lindor. "I was like, 'We've got to hug it out, boys. We've got to hug it out. We did it, boys! We did it!'"
They embraced, and then carried the celebration into the clubhouse. No player, coach, front-office executive, cameraman or reporter was safe from a champagne shower. At one point, a handful of players teamed up to douse Francona with beer as he did an interview.
"The next player to pour [stuff] on me is playing tomorrow," Francona quipped.
Lindor later dumped a beer on Napoli. When asked if this compared to the renowned "party at Napoli's," the veteran first baseman replied, "maybe," with a grin before he started to laugh. Corey Kluber, who exited Monday's game after four innings because of right groin tightness, followed Lindor's lead and covered Napoli with his drink.
Michael Brantley had to protect his surgically repaired right shoulder, so he had to watch some of the chaos from afar. Yan Gomes brought over a beer for the two to share.
"We're going to do it slow," Gomes said to Brantley as he poured the beer.
Josh Tomlin, Mike Clevinger, Carlos Santana and Roberto Perez all brought their young children to the edge of the clubhouse. Tomlin held up his baby daughter, Mackenzie, and said: "You're a winner, baby."
First-base coach Sandy Alomar enjoyed similar experiences on a near-annual basis with the Indians 20 years ago.
"Every time you get to do this," he said, "you don't take it for granted."

reports are it was a mild groin strain...is there something else out there, and it happened in the 3rd and he came out and pitched the 4th, Tito said he was fine and it was 100% precautionary.

Indians' Danny Salazar: Prepping for postseason bullpen role by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com Salazar threw 30-plus pitches off a mound Wednesday, and appears on track to be available out of the bullpen in the ALDS, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports.
He only threw fastballs and changeups, as those would be the two pitches Salazar would use as a reliever. Apparently it hurts his arm too much to throw curveballs, but he would likely only rely on his top two pitches as a reliever anyway. Depending on how deep the Indians go in the postseason, there's a chance Salazar could make a start at some point, but it would likely be a shortened start, the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Paul Hoynes reports.
So essentially, we have to win a division series with a hobbled #1, a #2 that can't pitch at all because of a broken hand and a #3 that can only pitch in relief as long as he doesn't attempt to throw a curve.
Ugh.

I root for the Tribe and hope they win the World Series unless my San Francisco Giants play them, but thats not looking too promising right now, but this is the same thing that happened in 14 when the Giants barley got in and won it all, so who knows ... anyway GO TRIBE and GO GIANTS

BOSTON -- There will be no shortage of storylines when the Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians meet in the American League Division Series beginning Thursday. The best-of-five matchup pits Indians manager Terry Francona against the team he led to two World Series titles in eight years and his good friend, Red Sox skipper John Farrell, who served as pitching coach under Francona in Boston and also spent several years as both a player and director of player development in Cleveland.
Where the series starts remains to be seen. The Red Sox own a half-game lead on the Indians after both teams won Friday night, and the Red Sox own the tiebreaker by virtue of claiming the season series 4-2. Cleveland has played one fewer contest and will play a makeup game in Detroit on Monday if the Tigers are still alive in the wild-card chase or if the battle between the Indians and Red Sox for home field remains uncertain.
When the dust settles, the time for analysis can begin.
"We kind of anticipated this might be the way it shakes out," Farrell said. "Obviously, a very good team. We'll have time to review them more in depth. We're looking forward to these final two games here."
Interestingly enough, the teams already endured some drama after a season-opening series in Cleveland was marred by nasty weather that forced two postponements.
"They've got a great team. We opened the year, we were in Cleveland for a week and with the weather we had to go back there," Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia said. "We're pretty familiar with them. They have a great team so it's going to be tough."
"We gotta play well. They got a good ballclub," Boston designated hitter David Ortiz added. "You got in the playoffs, that means you did something special."
The Indians have been hit hard by injuries to their rotation. Ace Corey Kluber is sidelined because of a quadriceps strain, right-hander Danny Salazar will be available only out of the bullpen and Carlos Carrasco has been lost for the season.
The series will feature the top two offenses in the AL, although Boston has scored 106 more runs than Cleveland and it outhit the Indians .291 to .190 in the six matchups this season.
For those reasons, the Sox have reason to be confident, but they know their opponent is there for a reason.
"Is that what we're doing?" Jackie Bradley Jr. asked when told by a reporter that his team would be facing Cleveland. "For sure? 100 percent? OK, that'd be cool. Good ballclub. They wouldn't be where they are today if they weren't."
