I hope Cody is fully healthy and not just toughening it out
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."
Don't sleep on our man Kevin Hogan Dawg lovers. IMO he was the 3rd best QB coming out of college behind Wentz and Goff. He didn't lead Stanford to 3 Pack 12 titles in his 4 years purely out of luck or coincidence, I believe he is a good young smart QB. If Kessler cant go, I hope Hue pulls the trigger with Hogan and our Browns never look back! Just my take from a lifelong Browns fan. What say You about Mr. Hogan? We are extremely young and unlike a lot of you, I really like where we are headed! I believe, DO YOU?
LETS GET THIS RIGHT FELLAS...ENOUGH LOSING IS ENOUGH!
It sounds like Kessler is the starter going forward even if both are healthy.
yep, it's his year to be evaluated

YES, I BELIEVE
I bet you're wondering the samething I did, why O' why didn't I take the...blue pill
They get a win, they talk nice for a while, they make it to 1 and 5, and are still wayyyy out of contention, and nothing gets solved going for the future.
2. They lose, they fall to 0-6 the chances for even "any" wins on the year dwindle, (I don't know who's on the future schedule, and I don't CARE, I haven't cared this little about the Browns since before 1981, and I don't feel good about that. ( Edit. And it's October, it's week #6, it's not even the time when a bad team is mathematically eliminated yet. This it the ONE TIME of the YEAR when EVery NFL fan should be able to watch with hope. A new season, turn it around, get in contention. edit)
I just don't know that they are sticking with any kind of plan and there is nothing to even look at as an identity.
I turned on the radio broadcast halfway through the game... (oh they've down 30-7, " who scored for the Browns?" Guy didn't know.,)
Got in the car, the game is on, " Charlie Whitehurst is hurt at quarterback.
WHO IS CHARLIE WHITEHURST. I hadn't even heard of Charlie Whitehurst!

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

1st of all, welcome to the boards.
Now .... wow.
I like your enthusiasm ..... but I don't see the same things you do.
I like some of our players, and think they have futures. (either as starters, or as backups/special teamers) However, there are others who I think are destined to be nothing more than "players 45-53". Injuries are a major concern. The inability to put the same team on the field from week to week is a killer for a team (largely) made up of 1st and 2nd year players.
As far as Hogan ..... I don't know what to expect of him. Honestly, I don't expect much. I remember seeing a Stanford game on TV, and wanting to see him ..... only to be disappointed. I was never that impressed with him. He is a mess mechanically. The ball comes out of his hand flat. His accuracy isn't all that great, and his arm is average at best. He was OK at hitting wide open receivers .... but tighter windows? I didn't see it. I also didn't like his willingness or ability to hang in the pocket. Man, watching some of his highlights reminds me of just how awful he is mechanically. He really flails around in his follow-through. He could almost be a contortionist. I hope that Hue and his staff have built his mechanics, because he really had none in school.
I really expect Hogan to be the #3 this week, and inactive. I think that McCown will back up Kessler.

Some highlights:
P.S. The TD catch around the 56 second mark was incredible.

Mechanically he's a mess. His feet fly everywhere when he tries to get a little extra on some of the deeper throws, and winds up flinging his entire body into some of them. I think that he really needs built as a QB.

Hogan's mechanics are a mess, but there were several of us who liked him way more than Kessler before the draft. Mechanics can be improved, much more-so than arm strength.
We certainly can win, but I have doubts that we will. This game should present a significant problem for us as the Titans, I expect, will try to pound us on the ground. The only way I see a win for us is if they are forced to pass and we can win the turnover battle...

I think the game plan is out on the Browns w/Kessler.
Stack the box to take away Crow first and foremost and to a lesser extent, the short passing game. Dare Kessler to beat you by making intermediate throws [18-22 yards.]
Defensively, the Browns should employ a similar defense in doing their best to take Murray away and daring Mariotta to beat them. I am not all that impressed w/him.
I do worry about Delaney Walker having a huge deal against our SS's and LBers, though. Neither Campbell or Kendrid can cover their own shadow.
I do think the Browns will have to blitz Mariotta at times w/a controlled rush. Blitz him from the edges and have guys stay home in the middle of the defense. It would be a mistake to let him get outside and run for big yardage. Containment is crucial.

Kody did pretty good against this gameplan last week. I think the onus is more on the receivers and the scheme. If people are open in area where Kody can deliver the ball I think he'll find them.

I think their man coverage is fine, like many young safeties they're learning on the backend.
I wish Horton would respect good receiving TEs that if they're beating the LBs then change up the coverage. I would try Poyer/Williams.

Agreed. In addition to contain rush IF they blitz I would blitz from the interior. I would send Davis because imo he's at his best going forward (and for my money he's the worst in coverage) but mainly because the interior push/penetration is often non-exsistent.

I must have missed all those throws where Kessler threw the ball 18-22 yards down the field. I did see him get hit and throw the ball backwards for a safety, though.

I don't think they are even close to doing fine in coverage. In fact, I think Horton is forced to use Kirksey on TEs because those two are so dreadful in coverage. Neither one has good hips. Neither seem to have a clue regarding reading route trees and covering the correct area. Both are hurting us in the passing game.
I'm surprised the number is that low against Tennessee and SD

You also must have missed the TD drive on our second possession where CK marched down the field against that in-the-box defense - molded by the mad-genius himself - and did exactly what he needed to do on EVERY SINGLE THROW...while immediately answering the Pats score. What a turd he must be for not throwing the ball 18-22 yards when it wasn't necessary or called-for by the coaches.
On the safety...yes...he should have simply stiff-armed that free ranging LB who beat him into the backfield. He's weak at that. I doubt he can ever improve enough to handle such an attack.
Yes I think we can win. Tennessee is in the same category as the Ravens and the Redskins. We could have won those games. So it's entirely possible for us to win vs TN. . . .
That said, I think it's going to take a mistake free game of football from players and coaches.
We only have one outside WR - Pryor - and while Hawkins is showing a little life across the middle, we REALLY need another WR on the opposite side from Pryor to force defenses to at least pay some attention.
I don't get the flat out hate for Kessler and his arm strength. At this stage of his fledgling career, on what most agree is a talent starved team, he's led us to scoring drives and made smart plays. Does he look like Wentz? No. Does he have a cannon? No. Has he played better than just about anyone expected? IDK - you tell me. He's outplayed my expectations ..... AND - he's improved game to game.
I think Hue wants to win - and when Josh is healthy Josh will start. Just how I read Hue's attitude. I think Kessler's performance in this gamewill entirely be dependant on how much pain Kessler is playing through and how many hits he takes. I am not expecting much out of the run game as Erving is back. On defense - man I want Nassib and Ogbah to light it up and get some pressure consistently on Mariota, and would love to see some improvement from the safties.
Head says TN - heart, as always says the Browns.

The more things change the more they stay the same.
With the Tribe games this weekend and Ohio State tonite , I never have cared less for a Browns game on Sunday, not on here in Columbus and not gonna miss it a bit

agreed. all of our teams rock, except this one

Those are his # of attempts in a game. He has thrown the ball long very little since he became the QB.He has had 5 pass plays of 20+ yards, and 1 of 40+. That stat includes throw short run long plays.

Titans, Jets and Giants are our only hope for a win this season. Everyone else is going to pin there ears back and roll right over us.
SD too maybe

The Browns invested heavily in offensive weapons that would establish a deep threat in the passing game.
Hopefully the Browns did not invest in a QB who does not have the arm strength to throw deep. I'm waiting to see Kessler throw a 40/50yd pass, hitting a WR in stride.
...I think that is what many are waiting to see Kessler do.
