when I was younger and worked in the Flats, I worked basically all three shifts all the time. I was working concurrently at Panini's and Hooters, so I would usually do a day shift in the kitchen at Hooter's.. then go to work at Panini around 4 or 5pm until closing (we didn't get out until around 4 or 5am).

Yeah, I felt like a vampire for a few years... never saw the sun or if I did it was a reminder that I should be sleeping.

I have been doing 3 p.m. to 3 a.m. Sometimes I'll go 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., but usually 3 p.m. to 3 a.m. is the ticket. 2-3 times a week.

I worked second for a big chunk of last summer and for a month or so this summer. We have now went from three 8 hour shifts 5 days a week to two 12 hour shifts 4 days a wek so now I am on 6 at night to 6 in the A.M.. I like the 4 12s way better. 2pm to 10 p.m. 5 days a week just kills your summer. Though I do have to admit it is nice for the nightlife with the fellas.

I work second shift too. It's not so bad, but you have to spend time with your better half when you can (days off usually).

Sorry man. Second shift is without a doubt the worst....it sort of digs into everything unlike first or third.

I kind of work 2nd shift. 12:30-9pm. I am used to it though and it gives me the time to go to school during the day. I don't see my kids as much as I like and the wife has been working till 2 am and is sleeping when I leave for class. My sacrifice now will pay off soon enough.

I hope

Yikes...sounds almost as bad as sunday for my hubby when he works overtime. He works 3rd shift (10:00 pm - 6:30 am) sunday-thursday. Then if his over time is on 1st shift he works 6-2:30 both saturday and sunday. So if he's working 7 days he works sunday morning from 6-2:30, comes home and spends a quality hour with the kid and i, then goes to bed and has to work 10-6:30. As if working that many hours isn't enough, being on night shift for 5 days, switching to days for 2 days, then back on nights is a real killer on him. He's supposed to be going to days soon, he's already gotten the bid awarded to him, it's just a matter of actually doing it that's holding him up right now. I can't wait until it happens so we can be a real family again...which we haven't been since he started this job and got stuck on 3rd shift about 6 years ago!

Wow,,thats pretty inspiring what he is doing for his family. I know it's rough and sucks for you and your girl though. I will never complain about working 5 hours mandatory OT Saturdays again

I work 2nd shift now and have since I started at the hospital in 2000. Except on my meeting days (like tomorrow).

I love second shift. I'm not a morning person AT ALL and function much better with 8 hours of sleep and later in the day. Even if I go to sleep early for dayturn, I usually don't fall asleep and end up getting less sleep than I need. I go to bed when I want, and wake up when I want.

I hate alarm clocks.

I see my kid all day until I leave for work, but don't see the wife as much when I'm on afternoons. It's nice being home early working dayturn, like tomorrow, but then I usually feel like crap and don't have the energy to do things. That's just my natural shift and sleep pattern. If I don't get 8 hours of sleep, I don't feel rested mentally.

I am the same way, I need 8 hours to feel decent. Unfortunately with a newborn, school and my damn back I can't even remember the last time I slept a solid 8 hours in a row Even the bachelor part the other night I fell asleep (passed out) at 4:30am and was up at friken 7:45am,,grrrr. I do like staying up till whenever and waking up whenever if I ever could hehe, your right about that cause I hate mornings with a passion.

Yup yup. I don't even eat breakfast. Couldn't tell you the last time I did.

I don't sleep straight through because of Kenleigh, and wake up earlier than I'd like now and again, but she actually sleeps in later than most babies do. Which is a good thing.

I work 2p-1130p 4 nights per week right now. I will be doing either 2p-2a soon or 3p-3a 3x/week in the ER. I choose to work second shift to avoid sending my kids to daycare. Shelling out 12k per year for childcare just didn't seem practical in our household. I love second shift anyhow because I'm not a morning person. The only mornings I can pop out of bed eagerly are gamedays in Cleveland. I still struggle getting that first beer down at 7am though. After that, they go down pretty well.

Second shift on the weekends does suck though. I'm hoping by late summer that I'll be working every 3rd weekend or none at all instead of every other weekend like I do now. Hang in there, hopefully it's just temporary.

That sucks, I think most of us went through that crap.

I had returned to Ohio once after moving to Florida, and to pay my bills I had 3 jobs.
8am-5pm Office Job in Elyria (C.A.D. Drafting)
6pm-12am Dishwasher at Irongate in Westlake
Then weekends
7am-3pm Shell Station in North Olmstead (Sat & Sun)
6pm-12am Dishwasher (Sat)

I never had time to myself. I think that was a big part of why I packed up and moved back to Florida a year and a half later.

You mean EVERYBODY else has not worked 60 to 80 hours a week, and learned to live on 4 to 5 hours of sleep per night for most of their adult life

4 to 5 hours is the most I get . Work 9 hours at my normal job then head off to the bar to put in another 4-5 then go home, pass the wife in the garage usually as she is on her way to close the bar, see my daughter for a fleeting minute ,slam down some food, catch up on some yard work daylight permitting, then sleep . The American dream as I see it. I am not complaining one bit as these are life choices I made and we do have a goal at the end of it all so we keep plugging away. I'll sleep when I die I reckon.

Thank God my job lets me get on here or I'd never get to see what is going on with my fellow Dawgs.
