This isn't normally my style, but I believe in the power of positive prayers and thoughts.............so, I am asking for prayers and positive thoughts for my son.

He's 28 and was married in September. We found out yesterday that he has testicular cancer. He's having surgery on Tuesday. He's really a great son and fine young man and this is pretty tough to deal with.

Thanks to everyone who responded here and through PMs. My son is strong and he will have a lot of support, as we are an extremely close family.

He's been reluctant to talk about things, but I am hoping that he will use a sperm bank so that he can have the child that he has planned on having for awhile now.

The main thing is that I hope he can just have the surgery and avoid chemo and radiation. The survival rate is really high in such cases.

Prayers to you and your family Vers. A young man in our town had this type cancer about 12 years ago. He ended up having a testicle removed, but has been cancer free since and I know he and his wife have at least one child.

Stay positive. Medical professionals can do amazing things.

Thanks again for all the support. I really believe in the power of prayer/positive thoughts. I know that some might scoff at that, but I've seen it work.

Here is an update. Talked at length w/my son today. He is going to use the sperm bank. There is a kit they send you now that you can do at home and he doesn't even have to to some clinic. Phew........just in time.

I'll update you guys after his surgery on Tuesday. I'll be driving down on Monday so I can be there for him.

I put our house on the market on Saturday and it sold on Tuesday. Prayers/positive thoughts do work............y'all!!!!

An update:

Right before my son's surgery on Tuesday, his surgeon informed us that the CT scan [which was given last week] showed that at least one of his lymph nodes in the abdomen was enlarged and probably cancerous.

As many of you know, he lives in SC, but is going to be sent to Indiana University to have a specialist remove the tumor and then analyze it. That news was tough, but we all have agreed that you want the absolutely best doctor you can have and that location is not that big of a deal.

The surgery to remove his testicle seemingly went smooth, but right now, my son has some paralysis in his thigh. He is unable to walk on his own right now, but yesterday the doctor said he expects that to only last for a couple of weeks. Also, his sack was completely black and had swollen so much that it was larger than a grapefruit. During yesterday's follow-up examination, his doctor had said that was the first time he had ever seen that happen to that extent. However, he was not alarmed and said that the swelling would dissipate.

My son has proven to be remarkably strong and has been very positive about things. He is a very analytical person and I can tell by his eyes that he understands the magnitude of the situation, but he isn't moping around and he has been kind to others. I'm very proud of him.

Once again, I will ask for your prayers and positive thoughts as we continue to navigate the this journey. Thanks again to all of you who have kept my son and his family in your prayers and positive thoughts.
