Harold Kerr Post 173 of the American Legion will sponsor a visit to Bellefontaine by the Moving Vietnam Wall, a half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the Mall in Washington, D.C. The Moving Wall will arrive in Bellefontaine July 25, 2007, and be in place for public visits until July 30.

The Wall has traveled across the United States with the purpose of honoring local heroes and to help bring healing to veterans, families and friends of those who died or are missing in Vietnam, especially for those unable to visit the Memorial in Washington. The Moving Wall also helps educate the community about the war and its impact on our nation and veterans.

Plans are to place the exhibit in Blue Jacket Park in Bellefontaine in such a way so as to maximize access and the effect of the Wall, while still protecting the integrity of the site and causing the least inconvenience or disruption at that specific location.

It is our hope to make this visit a community event, drawing support from as many individuals and agencies as possible. This will involve the considerable donation of time, effort and financial support if it is to be successful. The cost of getting the Wall here will alone total $4,000. There will be numerous expenses also for related support, and many volunteers will be needed to serve as official guards around the clock, assist visitors in finding names on the Wall and taking care of the many other details necessary.

Because this will be the first and perhaps the only time the Wall will come to Logan County, we are counting on widespread support, both volunteer and financial, for this project. Persons wishing to make financial donations should make checks payable to Legion Post 173 Moving Wall Fund. Any funds over and above expenses will be donated to Vietnam Combat Veterans, owners of the Wall. Likewise, individuals willing to offer assistance as a volunteer are encouraged to contact Legion Post 173.

For more information, call the Harold Kerr Post, 592-4891. The Post will be glad to answer any questions you might have.

I've never seen the travelling wall, but I have seen the permanent memorial in D.C. I would highly recommend going to see it (again, that is based on my seeing the real one).......pro war, anti war, don't care about war.....when you walk past it, you will have feelings.............in d.c., I felt as though it was "sucking" me in as the wall got higher and higher........looking at the individual names kind of personalized it, even though I didn't know anyone that died there........I know several that served there..........

Go see it is what I'm saying.

Thanks for the post!

I'll probably see it more than once while it's here in town. I'll even take some photos and post them on this thread.

A friend of mine from Huber Heights that visits I'm sure will also want to see it while it's here. I think he's seen it before, but much as I do,he supports the troops no matter the mission. They are following orders and doing what they can to protect and defend our great nation. We should all be proud of them and support them at any time or anywhere they are deployed.

I think that's one thing that people for generations will have learned from Vietnam if nothing else. But what a sad display they had to endure for "some" in our nation to have learned it.

God Bless them all................

I don't believe you. I don't think you have a true grasp on what has transipred in the past or present, your just a mouth running. Talk to me when you've been in a combat zone. Now if you comeback and tell me you served then not only will I laugh at you, I will call you a traitor, and you should be hung.

I've read the book and seen the show about things people leave at the wall in DC. It's really touching.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to go see it. God bless the soldiers who fell for us. The best way we can honor them is to never forget what they sacrificed.

I will go and honor two family friends lost in Vietnam, Lynn Ferguson and Steve Zimmerman. What a great thing it is that the Moving Wall will be stopping in our rural area.

I served and wasn't in a combat zone. It's not my fault when I was 17 there wasn't a war going on. Don't bring the Iraq thread into this one please. This is not the one to bicker in.

I am from a small town in northern California...6 guys from my hometown were killed in Viet Nam, 3 from my graduating class. Many more served, not all in combat. Thanks for your service, BrownsFan337.

I was a Navy Hospital Corpsman & my Viet Nam service was on a destroyer. We were shot at numerous times, but the Army Infantry and Marine grunts on the ground are the guys who had it the worst.

One kid who is on the wall is named Duane Davis. We were the same age. He joined the Marine Corps right out of high school, was sent to Viet Nam and was killed just weeks after arriving. He was 19 years old. His family was devastated; his father tried to hide in a whiskey bottle, his mother took her own life, his baby sister joined some sort of hippie cult.

When I visited the traveling wall, I found his name. It just didn't seem right somehow that my boyhood friends' name was there. A lot of servicemen had doubts about our involvement, especially toward the end of the war...but they were patriotic enough to do their duty as best they could.

Visiting the traveling Vietnam Memorial wall was a somber & moving experience.

I've never served nor been in combat but I certainly appreciate those who have, especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. I have a special place in my heart for Viet Nam Vets because of the abuse they had to face upon their return from those the believed they were fighting for. Ihope nothing like that ever happens again, even if I don't support a war I support the people who feel it their duty to fight.

When I visited the Wall in DC I was overcome with so many emotions it's hard to put into words. I've never seen the traveling wall but I'd guess it has a similiar impact.

It was shameful the way Viet Nam era vets were treated during and right after the Viet Nam war. The hateful confrontations upon returning home were bad enough...the indifference of the public (except for family and friends) may have been worse.

Thankfully, things have changed.
But, back to the Wall. I would highly recommend a visit.

I've read enough of his posts to figure out that he would probably be one of the people who would spit on our troops when they came back home. He has an anti-American attitude and it shows. My words might be harsh but they are how I feel.

But, that's exactly why we serve, or have served...to protect the rights of all our citizens to state their opinions...rather we agree with them or not is irrelevant...In my opinion, that is a stretch to say PhilDawsonRocks would spit on our troops.

No, it's not a stretch... it's an outright lie.

Phil and I disagree more often than we agree on most things political... but he at least brings facts and logic to support his opinions and is usually very respectful of others who do the same...

Phil might spit on our President, but he would never spit on our troops...

If Phil spit on our president then he would also be spitting on our troops. Thanks for supporting my opinion of Phil.

Our president? Not hardly. He never had the kahunna's to put on the uniform and go into battle. Just sends everybody else to do it.He didn't have the stomach for battle.

Comparing our president to our troops is nothing but a bold and unforgiveable insult to all our troops facing war every day.

He took the cowards way out while our troops are "real men". No comparison there.

Get a clue. No matter who the president is, he is still the commander and chief. We take orders from him no matter what. It is our job and we do it, we are americans, and we will carry out our orders, so people like you and Phil can run their collective pieholes. Remember that next time you hate on our culture, in other countries you would not have that opportunity.

Well people didn't have enough common sense to realise they were electing Larry from The Three Stooges.

Once you can wrap your mind around the fact he's a maroon,it makes one feel sorry for our troops.

He sent HALF the number of troops needed to get the job done, now you support him? He's the one who has put our troops in the middle of the crossfire of the Muslims you "claim" you WANT to see kill each other.

So let's see here. You claim to say "let them all kill each other". Yet our president has put our troops squarely in the middle of these guys to STOP that from happenning. Now you support him for doing the OPPOSITE of the very things you advocate?

Dee Dee Dee!
