Best time of year for many folk.

Of course hunting season in Connecticut is very short (with very complicated permits).

The permit dates depend on the weapon, animal, State Zone (area) and land type (ie. private, public, etc…). There’s also “bag limits” (Male, female, antlers, size).

There’s also “proof of firearm competency” requirements.

If you’re a hunter, it’s probably a lot more fun hunting in like West Virginny. I believe you can hunt off yer front porch there.

I’ve only been rabbit hunting (in Ohio). And my buddies only let me use a 410 shotgun.

Co worker's son got a 500 pound bull elk. I'll get a little meat in my freezer.

I don't hunt. Unless you count fishing as hunting fish.

I like to sit in the woods. Or, "hunt". Haven't gotten out this year yet though. Too many cornfields standing early in bow season, and then I screwed up my heel. Was on crutches for 3 + weeks.

Soon though, soon. I hope.

Ouch. Been there. Done that. About 20 years ago.

I will refrain from describing the cortisone shot I got in my heel when I developed Plantar Fasciitis. Other than to say, I limped into the podiatrist's office with pretty intense heel pain, got the shot, and my heel was immediately relieved of pain.

Wow.

I love using my 410 pump on rabbits. I use my 16 on ducks and geese. My 20 on deer. My 22 mag on squirrels. And my 223 on woodchucks.

I hunt deer. Bow season, and gun season. Otherwise, don't do much hunting. Been rabbit hunting once, squirrel hunting once.

Woodchuck? Whenever I can. What kind of .223 do you have?

That's a lot of bullet for squirrels, unless you're strictly going for headshots. I love squirrel hunting...and eating.

Arch it's a Savage bolt. Zero is 200yds. I use to have a Ruger M 77 22-250. That was a sweet shooting rifle.

I use the 22mag because it is really actuate. I have my grandson use my 410 pump. I always let him have the shot unless he doesn't see the squirrel.

When he was 7 his very first time deer hunting 45 minutes into opening day he got a 7 point buck.2 days later a doe.

I said you're done no deer for you the next 5 years.

I have a weatherby vanguard .223. Bolt action. Awesome shooter. I zeroed mine in at 100 yds. But truthfully, even at 320 yards the adjustment is so minimal.....

I shoot hornaday v-max (ballistic tip). 40 grain up to 55 grain.

That is the same round I use in mine. Do also have mounted bipods. Oh ya and I can adjust my scope from black to red or green depending on lighting.

Absolutely have a mounted bipod. In the spring, when the beans first get planted, I'll go out and lay for 2 hours or so at a time in the field. (for woodchuck) You can pretty well narrow down their active time.

Actually had a guy (farmer) ask me "hey, my brother tells me you hunt woodchucks, is that right?" Yeah. "How much do you charge?" Huh? "how much does he pay you for each woodchuck?" Nothing. He just lets me do it. "Okay. If you're interested, I've got 100 acres here, and 100 acres there, an 80 acre field over there. You're welcome anytime you can find the time."

Yes it does. Because of my hip replacement in May and then my accident i couldn't in the practice this year so won't be bow hunting.

Ya know I have 11 grandkids 10 of them have bows. Every year they have a tournament with grandpa. What they haven't figured out yet if they shoot red on target I shoot red if they shoot blue I shoot blue. I make sure I lose just enough to make them really like it.

i had to go check my ammo. i'm shooting the 55 grain. i love when farmers give me permisson for woodchuck. you help them control the groundhogs they usually let you hunt other game.

Arch got a few stories about my 22-250. i loaded all my shells at that time. it took a week to find the right load for my gun, but once i did when i dropped the bipods i called it instant death.

my wifes dad hunted woodchucks with a .222. now he being a ex marine drill sargent wanted to know who was dating his daughter. so of to woodchucking we went. we were walking out into a field and he says Bob is that a woodchuck i say yes it is he says think you can hit it. i said not shooting why don't you take the shot. he said why don't you want to shoot i said it's only 100 yds. He said can look through your scope. i said sure but for the full affecy dial it up to 40 power. his response was holy @@@@ i can count the fleis on this ass.

the next time we hunting a farm south of town, All of a sudden John says Bob is that a woodchuck? he says over by that hedge row.i said theres no woodchuck there. he said wrong hedge that one. i said ya thats a chuck. of course he said show me instant death. i said that chuck is out 800yds and that is the max on my scope. well dropped the bipods and let a shot fly. hit about 4 feet in front of the hog.turned around and said hes 803 yds. the hog had no idea what happened he stood straight upi put the crosshairs between his ears and hit him center mass. i told him ya know that was a young chuck it would make a good stew. ill wait for you to walk the 1/2 there and 1/2 mile back.

the last one i had the chuck i could not get near. he live on the hillside of a creek. i tried coming over the top from the left side the right side and trom the front. the closest i ever got to him was deer syalking him from the front. i unloaded my 357 chasing him up the hill. Then someone went in and cut a path through the woods.i will say it was only a 100yd shot but was personel at that time. i sat 4 hrs a day for 3 days before i got him.

Great story nor.

I picture a young guy (you) huntin' with his tough-guy girlfriend's dad (John?).

I'd guess early-60s.
