Former Wal*Mart employee charged in credit card thefts
A former employee of the Wal*Mart store at City View Center faces felony charges and a $25,000 bond for allegedly taking credit and debit cards from customers while they were checking out, Garfield Heights Police Captain Thomas Kaiser said.
Ebony Arnold, 18, of Donnybrook Ave. in Maple Heights, has been charged with felony theft and receiving stolen property, after several customers found their cards missing when they bought merchandise from the Transportation Blvd. store between Wednesday, May 30, and Friday, June 8.
Additional charges are pending through the Cuyahoga County Grand Jury, Kaiser said, adding that Garfield Heights Municipal Court Judge Deborah Nicastro set Arnold's bond.
According to the theft reports and surveillance tapes, Arnold would ask for the customers' cards and driver licenses as they were checking out and swipe them herself, instead of allowing them to use the credit card machine. She would then put the cards to the side instead of returning them.
She would wrap the customers' driver licenses in their receipts, leading them to believe she had returned their cards as well. After the customers left, she would hide the cards under the register and come back for them later, police said.
Arnold used the stolen credit cards to rack up thousands of dollars in purchases at numerous stores and restaurants throughout the Greater Cleveland area. She would do this quickly, before the customers reported their cards missing and discovered the unauthorized charges, Kaiser said.
At least six victims of theft have been identified, and others were discovered when Wal*Mart personnel were cleaning out Arnold's locker and found two more credit cards, Kaiser stated.

18 years old. Hmmmm, I wonder where she learned that felonious behavior from?
