On a sidenote, I'm a little torn on Garrett. I don;t watch a ton of college ball so I'm relatively uneducated but in watching game film on him, he seems almost solely reliant on a fast first step. I'm a tad wary of passrushers that rely solely on speed as tackles are better at dealing with it in the pros. Granted, its a SICK first step...but I'd feel alot better about him if I saw more technical skills in there as well.
Can someone enlighten me on what I might be missing? From what I've gathered, his ability to gain ground very quickly (very long strides ... almost awkward) is a huge asset. His athleticism is like off the charts. His injury plagued season is my big worry
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Either one would be a massive upgrade to our front 7. Both of these guys are generational talents imo. It would do so much for our D to hit on a pass rusher.

I think the biggest thing hurting us is we're missing a legit FS. Kindred and Campbell are being asked to cover way more often than they should and it's brought their overall level of their game down IMO. This isn't the first time I have seen that opinion. Can you guys provide some evidence to support that claim? From what I've seen, Kindred and Campbell should be asked to cover way more than they actually are and I believe that they aren't being used enough in coverage because they absolutely stink at it. I guess it would depend on whether you see those guys more as a SS or a FS? I'm basing my premise on the view that they are SS generally defined as not so great in pass coverage, but stronger in the run support. Clearly they would have to improve in the pass coverage area as they'd need to do it on occasion, but their skill sets don't lend them to be guys you count on for over the top help. The FS I see as being more the opposite, primarily bolsters the secondary, but also is called upon to come up and make a play. I see both of them in the SS role which is why as young players they are more one dimensional in their game at this point in time and suck at pass coverage. Maybe from a technically schematic point of view they aren't being asked to cover as much as it appears. But I see them making plays in run support less and less and running after/missing tackles on TE's and WR's down the field more and more.

I am big on Garrett, but nearly as high on Allen. It might make more sense to take him as a 3-4 end and not fool with taking Garrett and standing him up....though i really don't see that as a big transition for the guy.

We have historically been awful at finding that stud to move from DE to OLB...I know Garrett is likely to be different, but I'm leaning towards Allen who would have less of a transition. From what I've seen/read, either would be a giant upgrade.

Witch one plays like Joey Bosa ... cause i want him ...
He's making a HUGE difference in SD ... there secondary LOOKS much better solely because of the pass rush he provides ...
And before the menzas chime in .. no clue what his sack numbers are .. i watch the games .. he is a DISRUPTOR ... i notice him 3 or 4 times every game and say ... WHO WAS THAT ... we have one guy thats made me say that this year ... Kirksey .. and its only happend 3 or 4 times all year .. Bosa matched that by 1/2 time of his second game ..

Which begs the question, I wonder if the Coaching staff would consider going to a 4-3 to max the use of an Allen type or even bringing in a new DC. Would it be worth the change?

jc...
Based on the review I've done on Myles Garrett, so far, I would not take him with our first pick.
I'm not sure he is even the best DE in this draft.

He's also been playing hurt. It's hard to argue with all his tape.

I like to watch games against toughest opponents. That will be the caliber of talent the player will go against every week in NFL.
I'm not a fan of highlight clips...

Big difference between 1st or 2nd rd. and 3rd rd. He's playing pretty well for a 3rd rd pick. Should be better with another year under his belt. Can't ask much more out of a 3rd rd. pick.

I was reffering to his college tape and numbers ... I remember watching a clip of all his sacks his Sr. year and thinking ... and i can't remember the teams or numbers .... but it went something like this .... Temple 6 sacks ... michigan 1 sack ... Rutgers 5 sacks ... Mich State 1/2 sack ... Northwest Eastern Southern coastal carolina 7 sacks ... I was like ... ummmm ... u talk about inflated stats ... Thats what i meant in this particular post ... As for Nassib's play this year ... very curious to see him next year as most NFL players make their biggest jump between years 1 and 2 ... i'm not near as high on him as some around here ... Was very intrigued in the pre-season ... he's done nothing to move the needle this year on the field ... will be interested to see how much he improves between this and next year .. I would also ventue to guess were going to find out after the season that he was not near 100% after his injury ... he hasn't looked the same since getting hurt ..

I'm not a fan of highlight clips... Meh... that's not great either. Derek Carr looked like trash versus USC in his last game. If you try hard enough, you can talk yourself out of drafting any player.

Your right about that. He has slowed down since his injury. I hope he makes the leap. We need to start hitting on all the draft picks.

All I know is Nassib has always been an overachiever. I didn't think he was an IMPACT player even though his college numbers suggested otherwise. And I don't think he will be a guy to build a D around now. But he is a kid who will OVER ACHIEVE and can be a good piece to the puzzle as he learns the NFL game. I can't remember us ever coming though with 3rd round picks...this year I think we got 2 that will contribute for many years.
I hope we do spend on D players more than the O. I do wish for that Impact guy. I think these guys are pretty good in assessing talent than anything we have had in the past.
My litmus test. The guy these guys went hardest for in the FA market was Vernon from Miami. Now that I have seen him play with the Giants...I nod my head...they know what they are doing...not just get FA for the sake of it. But a Steal of a Stud that is young...I can't wait till they build this thing. As stated 19 rookies on this roster...Has that been done, EVER? And its not like they are all bums. Granted a few were brought in cause we had some early injuries. But for the most part they got GAME. Its a numbers game...out of the 19 how many stud out to Good Starters, Pro Bowlers, HOFers.
