I have a question about "insiders".

What is an outsider?

Is someone who ran for President, but who has no other federal experience an outsider? If so, then Romney and Palin would be outsiders, wouldn;t they?

How many people in an administration are allowed to have DC experience? I don't think that it's wise to have everyone in the administration having no DC experience, because we also have a President Elect with no DC experience.

I would like to see new blood in DC, but it is a pipe dream to think that everyone will have no experience in DC. More than that, I think it would be dangerous. I don't want people who have been in administration after administration, because it is obvious that their ways have not worked. (and this applies to both of the past 2 administrations,at least) However, we do need some people who know how things work, at least for now.

Was "insiders" not a codeword for career politicians? It doesn't matter where they're from. Bureaucrats are all bred the same.

I dunno. When I hear "Washington Insiders", I don't think of Governors, businessmen, state officials, etc. I think of people on the inside of DC.

Oh, so Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney aren't Washington insiders? Weird. Because I've seen them a lot more around Washington than wherever they served for as governor for a term or two.

Are they working inside the DC machine?

Romney was in business, then ran for the Senate. And lost. He then served as President of the Olympic committee, which propelled him to a successful campaign for Governor. He then did not run for re-election, because he ran for President; losing our to McCain for the Republican nomination. He then ran for the nomination, and got it, in 2012. He certainly wasn't actively involved in politics in any visible way, until he mouthed off about Trump this year.

Where/how is he a Washington insider?

Palin ran for VP, and then did some campaigning for candidates, but I don;t recall her doing much of anything meaningful inside DC since she lost in 2008. She speaks, and helps Republican candidates ..... but I don;t remember her being a source of power in the halls of power. What did you see do that could be considered "DC insider"? She has been political, but I don't recall her being involved in any meaningful issues in DC.

Sorry but this is false.

You don't have to work in DC to be part of the machine.

You're basically saying the Koch brothers aren't insiders cause they don't work in DC.

Mitt Romney has been part of the machine for a while now. And he was s governor for for a few years.

You can't spin out of this one. Trump has hired and considered s bunch of insiders and establishment members to his cabinet.

He played conservatives with regards to "draining the swamp. "

Foolish.
Trump IS the outsider!
He calls the shots.
It only makes sense that he adds insiders to balance himself out. He will get insider advice on his outsider actions so he will see what he is currently blind to.

When I hear "Washington Insider" I think of somebody well connected enough to make back room deals, somebody who is already in bed with lobbyists (or they are the lobbyists), etc. Somebody who is very comfortable and happy with the way politics "works" in DC because it works for them. They could be former DC politicians, lobbyists, cabinet appointees, heck even ranking folks from Fox News or CNN could be considered Washington Insiders..

I have never had any delusions of how Trump was going to fill positions. I always assumed when he said "drain the swamp" that he was talking about getting rid of everybody that was there and bringing in people he could work with... not that he was going to load it with people who had no Washington connections.

When you drain a swamp, the gators and snakes evacuate, when you refill the swamp, they return.. it's still a swamp.

Are you seriously asking me why Presidential/VP nominees are being considered as Washington Insiders? Bureaucrats are all bred the same. Especially those who spent their life working for a major DC lobbyist and the talking head of the party.
