Buffalo businessman, Trump 'friend' says he never meant to send racist comments to ArtVoice

Brash Buffalo businessman Carl Paladino apologized to "the minority community" on Tuesday for his recent controversial comments about Barack and Michelle Obama — including his wish that the first lady "return to being a male" and live with a gorilla in an African cave — that created uproar across the state and country.

However, the former Republican gubernatorial candidate and co-chair of President-elect Donald Trump's New York campaign said in a statement that he would not leave the Buffalo school board, as he slammed fellow board members, "activist progressives" and others.

"I never intended to hurt the minority community who I spent years trying to help out of the cycle of poverty in our inner cities," Paladino said. "To them I apologize. I thought about them every day as I fought against unqualified and incompetent superintendents, administrators, teachers and school board members, unfair union contracts, broken homes and children who can't get the education they need to break that cycle of poverty because our school system is a failure, for reasons that needn't be. I have shown those who chose not to watch but to enter the arena how to fight the demons. Nevertheless, I won't be judged by those timid souls who sit uninvolved in the gallery always prepared to criticize. Nor do I have any respect or regrets for the insane education activists who hover over and defend the dysfunction of the BPS."

State Democrats took turns slamming Palladino, and there were numerous calls for his removal from the Buffalo school board.

Trump's camp disavowed the comments. "Carl's comments are absolutely reprehensible, and they serve no place in our public discourse," Trump's Deputy Communications Director Jessica Ditto said.

Honolulu's Cafe 8 1/2 would like for you to know that if you voted for Trump you're not welcome in their establishment and you're likely a Nazi. The tiny "eclectic mom-and-pop restaurant" is drawing a lot of attention after posting the bright yellow sign in their window.

Other than a couple of Fox News reporters that may be on the island covering barry the antisemite, I'm not sure how much risk the restaurant owners are taking of losing customers in Honolulu. It's pretty much Obama country for the Americans there and most everyone else is Japanese or Aussie. Not much Trump support to lose. But now they have their name out there getting attention. I have a lot of friends who are Republicans and the ones I know car about black people at a rate of about 99.9 percent, which is the same rate that cares about white folks, yellow folks, red folks, and everybody else.
