Apparently Mr. Haslam has made the decision that there will not be a formal GM hire.

It has been stated that Hue Jackson will be "more" involved in decisions specifically with the quarterback.

Not sure what "more" involved means. Given the "trust me" comment on Kessler.

So if Hue is going to make the decision on the quarterback that will decide his future: who will that be?

First off never trust owners. They are like politicians. They are going to say all the things are politically correct and in the end do what they want. The pressure to win on owners is heavy. Their massive ego's are in play along with their money.

So Hue feels safe "now" with a 1-15 record. How safe do you think he will feel if he wins 3 or 4 games next year? Or repeats a 1-15 record?

With that question in mind do you believe he is willing to cast his future with Kessler and Griffin? How about a rookie quarterback with his current team? Knowing that they will draft and bring in more rookies and maybe add some free agents?

Not exactly a warm fuzzy feeling there hey?

Hue wants to win next year. The motivation is on many levels.

So what will Hue do? What would you do?

We know some things about Hue like the quarterbacks he has worked with and seen often.

My take is Hue wants to win next year. He will make the decision that will help him win.

I have to believe that Hue will come to the conclusion that Garoppolo will get him in the win column the quickest. That Garoppolo is in the end a standard NFL drop back pocket passer. That he has gotten good training and some NFL experience. That of all the options available Garoppolo gives him the best chance to win.

I rather roll with rg3 than give up a first or 2nd rounder for Jimmy G.

I'm sorry but you can't slam Hue for the "trust me" comments on Kessler, then turn around and hope he pulls a "trust me" situation again on Jimmy G.

Cause if he looks at this objectively, then he comes to this conclusion.

I have a QB already on the roster who got injured first game of the season. I got a third round QB who is timid throwing the ball, and who also gets injured. I got another QB in McCown who likes to go on helicopter rides during the games.

So I can't take a chance on jimmy G, seeing as how he got INJURED in his whopping 2nd career start in the NFL. Especially since the patriots asking price is far too high.

________

Me personally, I'll see what buffalo is asking for tyrod Taylor. My guess is that he might actually be cheap.

The Browns already sent scouts to go take a look at Watson and Trubisky.

However, Hue also said that RG3 needed to show improvement every game he was back from injury, and he did that.

The situation is complicated at the QB spot. But it's one thing to take a flyer on a QB. It's quite another to trade a first rounder for a backup.

I wish you would make your mind up.
You said you didn't want other team's cast off QB's.
First it was RG3 and now Taylor, who would be cast offs.

Teams will just wait for Buffalo to cut Taylor. No use trading for something that you can get for free.

Tyrod Taylor is a starter.

He wasn't a backup in buffalo. I'll make my mind up when you learn to read what I post. Fair?

I think he's good.

He has his problems.

But whatever the Browns do, I'm praying they don't bring in jay cutler. Want no part.

RG3 stunk,Taylor stinks,you want both.
Cutler, who as a starter has accomplished more than both of the other guys, you don't want.
It doesn't make sense to me.

rg3 is already on the team. ive made that clear plenty of times already. He's ALREADY on the team. And he's cheap.

You have no argument. Wanting to continue taking a chance on a guy who's already on the team is completely different than trading a first rounder for a back up QB who is a backup and got hurt in only his 2nd career start.

If you think jimmy G is worth a first, which is what the patriots want for him. Fine. Do you.

However, I don't want any part of that. A 3rd? Maybe our back end 2nd rounder? Ok. But a first? Hell no.

Same thing with Tyrod. A 3rd, maybe the back end 2nd. But at least Tyrod has started, has a decent w-l record, and has shown that he's an above average QB.

That's a lot more than what Jimmy G has shown, and they want a first for him? Hell no.

And what has jay cutler accomplished?

I don't have an argument, just trying to figure out where you're coming from.
The Pats can ask for a 1st,hell they can ask for the moon,I don't think they are going to get it.Some combination of a 2 and a 3,something along those lines would be more realistic.
A 3rd for Taylor,yuck.
Hell go after Kapernick, chances are good he'll be a FA.He sucks too.

You missed my point.

I am not faulting Hue for a "trust me" comment on Kessler.

My point is Hue was involved in the quarterback decision last year. "More" is the question. He was involved so I don't think his part in the decision process has changed.

McCown will not be on the roster next year. He may be a quarterback coach.

Garoppolo "injury". I don't get that. Seeing that every quarterback on our roster has been hurt along with many others.

Tyrod Taylor. Really? How is he much different than Griffin? Just keep Griffin same thing.

Of course the Browns are going to scout every quarterback in the draft. That goes without saying. That is there job. It is not like they have a winning quarterback on the team.

Garoppolo is a back-up. Tell me who would not be a back-up to Tom Brady?

Tell me how taking a flyer on a draft pick is more safe than trading for quarterback that you have much more information on and was a second round selection?

Tyrod Taylor??

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/18418...-muscle-surgery

How does any part of this guy make any sense?

If Buffalo thought he was worth it why is he available?

Even Taylor questions his future in Buffalo. How would this guy help Hue Jackson save his job with the Browns?

Frankly I don't know why he is even brought up in this discussion?

Let's please keep in mind that a trade is a negotiation.

http://nesn.com/2017/01/trent-dilfer-clears-air-on-adam-schefter-jimmy-garoppolo-trade-chatter/

Asking and getting are two different things.

In the end it becomes fair market value. It is what someone is willing to spend.

Hue didn't want to rush Kessler to start in his first season. EVERYONE knew he was to be a developmental project. The same as ANY qb would taken in the third round. To somehow say he doesn't know his QBs because of a developmental pick that got thrown into a starting role is just silly. Heck, I'd say most of us thought Kessler far surpassed our expectations for the most part.

Hue is a proven commodity when it comes to his work with QB's. PROVEN. Let the man do what he does. I'm glad to hear the team wants to support him rather than interfere with him. WHICHEVER QB we end up with he will play better with Hue than anyone else we would have coaching.

Just my humble opinion =)

There is no need to look at numbers.

Why bother? It is not like any numbers in this case are going to drive a decision.

You watch the player play. You talk with others who have had direct experience with them.

Both guys have limited NFL experience. If Taylor has proven anything why would his future in Buffalo be in question?

Garoppolo has played behind Brady. He has had limited actual playing time.

Anyone interested in either guy has to base their decision on what they believe he can do not what he has done.

If you believe Taylor is better fine that is your take.

This about what Hue Jackson believes.

I'm down with Taylor if they plan on releasing RG3. the guy is a two year starter, and the only reason he got benched is because the bills didn't want to pay that contract.

if they release RG3, bring in Taylor, who is only 27 going on 28 when the season starts, then that means we can really go hard in the paint on this talented draft class.

he's RG3 without the injury or negative locker room history.

sure there's a reason to look at the numbers.

i've also watched the players play.

couldn't watch jimmy G all that much cause...well, he got hurt.

he could've had 4 solid games to go off on. but of course, matt cassel went 11-5 and..well you know the rest.

and you right, this thread is what does hue jackson believe.

and we know the kind of QB hue likes. He like guys with a big arm, who has some wheels to his game to keep the defenses guessing. the QB doesn't even need to run, just needs the THREAT of running. and to take a look, let's look at his last QB, andy dalton.

Look what he had Dalton doing. Dalton had a BLAST playing that season.

2015: 3250 yards, 25 TD's, 7 int, 142 yards rushing, 3 TD's, 106.3 rating.

here's the kicker: 8.42 yards per pass. that had him at 2nd highest in the league. his best season as a pro.

so just for comparison sake, let's take Taylor's 2015 season:

3,035 yards, 20 TD's, 6 int, 568 rushing yards, 4 TD's, 99.4 rating.

7.99 yards per pass.

They are practically the same. Tyrod is more athletic and faster, as well.

So don't be surprise if we make that move.

I think Hue will just stick with RG3 unless a he really likes becomes available. I question whether Sashi is willing to pay the price it takes to get a quality QB.

To me when you look at QB's that are available in this years draft there is nothing to be excited about. There is not a single QB worth a 1st round grade this year. They are all forced picks which almost always lead to busts. There are going to be 3 teams that will be really rolling the dice this draft with 1st round picks. That means chances are that maybe 1 of them will get lucky. To be clear, it will be pure luck.

To me Jimmy G. has played exactly the way I predicted he would given the opportunity. Yes, it was only two games but those two games against NFL competition are far more info than what we have from ANY college. Jimmy G just didn't play well in his NFL debut he played sensational. He easily made it look like he could step in for Tom and NE would not lose a step.

What that shows to me is that he is a good enough QB that if you build the team for him he will succeed and play at a high level. You don't know that about ANY QB you draft. That to me is easily worth a 1st round pick. You make the trade and celebrate that you have your QB of the future and do everything you can to build the team to make him succeed.

Jimmy G. is a no brainer to me.

Things I think in this thread

1. RG3 is currently fighting with Kevin Hogan as the worst QB on the roster. RG3 holds the ball far too long and, despite having a live arm, floats the ball into crappy spots far too often.

2. I'd be comfortable with Kessler as our starter next year if he could just get a little more zip on his passes. He's the QB that this team performed best under.

3. I wouldn't pay more than a third for Jimmy G or Tyrod.

4. Wacky thought...if the Skins franchise Cousins, would he be worth paying the two first rounders for?

That would mean the first overall pick this year and our first round pick next year (unless a different deal was negotiated). So, no.

j/c...

The only FA QB I would look into would be Cousins...but be prepared to pay of course.

Others like Cutler you would have to trade for. I don't wish to give up a draft pick for him...oddly I do like Cutler and think he gets a bad rap.

I'd rather keep going to the draft. If we go 1-15 next year Hue should get a medal cause that means we win the Sam Donard sweepstakes...lol laugh

Canada Dawg...RG3 is by far our best QB on the roster.

Kessler just has that scared look in his eyes...I know that is a stupid analysis but he seems afraid to lose games.

Don't wish to trade for ANY QB....

4. Cousins is the only FA QB worth something...ehhh No on the Franchise Tag thing (2 draft picks) Is there something like a Super Tag??? more than 2 picks?

I still trust Hue for the QB decision especially in the draft.

jmho...I don't think we will ever be picking number 1 any time soon. I just want our Franchise QB!!!

IF Hue agreed that Garoppolo will get him to the win column the quickest I agree that he would make that decision.

Garoppolo is an unknown. He's played well in limited snaps with a great supporting cast around him. He could pan out....or he could be Matt Flynn. AND he's gonna cost draft resources and he'll likely need to be paid before you really 'know' if he's the guy or not. But then again IF he is the guy that the cost doesn't matter.

Neither here nor there I think IF they bring in a QB via FA/trade I think the target will be McCarron.

Quote:
So if Hue is going to make the decision on the quarterback that will decide his future: who will that be?

So what will Hue do? What would you do?
I think Hue is acutely aware that a young QB needs support. And in order for any QB to have noticeable success they talent around him needs to improve.

I believe that Hue believes that if he builds the proper supporting cast that he can develop a QB.

I also believe that Hue will draft a QB somewhere in this draft because its prudent to always draft and develop a QB as often as possible not out desperation to find "the guy" or to appease the fans/tony grossi.

People dismiss the fact that Hue brought Griffin to develop him. And I do not believe that Griffin's development is complete nor do I think Hue is gonna give up on his development. I realize that many don't view Griffin the same way Hue does...many people view Griffin as a finished product as opposed to developing QB with an outstanding physical skillset.

I would do what I believe Hue is gonna do:

-draft a QB but still continue to develop Griffin

IF Griffin plays well then they can keep him/trade ala Alex Smith/Drew Bress OR if Griffin fails then you go to Kessler or the rookie.

This here... You've made a point before about the types of FA's you think this FO would entertain bringing in.. the 27-28yr old vets with success (like Collins). Proven guys that can be cornerstones, not fill ins. Personally I'm on board with this.

My question to you is how much would we have to commit to Taylor if we brought him in... even if we got him for a 3rd or 2nd? With RG3 we were able to bring him on board money wise without having to commit to him as a Day 1 starter.

I would think if we brought Taylor in it would have to be because we were pretty certain he'd be our guy from Day 1? Just curious as to what you think?

Bone. I agree with that last paragraph concerning Garoppolo.

Everyone clamoring about a 1st rounder for Garoppolo needs to take the pill.

Noone in need of a Starting QB is giving up a Top 10 pick. Frisco won't. Jets won't. SD won't. Bears and Buffalo won't. That's just flat out ignorant.

So. Billy Boy can ASK for anything he wants. He ain't gonna get it.

So. The potential accepted offer is going to be a 2nd rounder and possibly another pick.

So. We hold the cards. We have the highest pick in round 2. And we have multiple picks in 3 and 4.

We've got the picks to make it work. And it WON'T include either 1st round pick. I'd bank on that one. Garoppolo isn't a highly experienced QB, nor is he a "Tagged" QB.

With what I am reading concerning Trubisky, it's looking like he's staying at NC. And he should. He needs that extra year.

I say Go for Garoppolo. DO NOT sign him to any extension. Play him in 2017. THEN you know him and can sign him long term at upwards of 18M a year. if he's what we hope he'll be. QB fixed. Tag him if need be.

If he's NOT what we hope he is, the 2018 draft will have multiple QBs going top 10. Including Trubisky.

That's the smartest way to go.

NOT these run around QBs like Taylor and Watson.

Get the Pocket Passers in Garoppolo or Trubisky.

So you don't want to bring in a guy because they are athletic and bc of that are put in the mobile QB category? nice.

15 brought up the point that most likely Taylor will be cut because of the contract he got.

So the beauty of it is that we might not even have to give up anything for him. I mean we can pay him a little bit more, but give him the same contract RG3 got. A two year deal, one of those years being a team option.

So now we're talking about not giving up resources for an above average starting QB, compared to giving up a 1st or 2nd rounder for a backup unknown.

But if Taylor comes in, that has to mean rg3 is gone. Just for keeping as little drama as possible, we can't have both on the team. They both want to be starters, and that can turn ugly real quick.

But yes, even if we bring in Taylor as a bridge QB, he's a starter day one.

That means that we don't have to second guess anything.

First two picks on defense. 1st pick, 2nd round on a center, 2nd pick, 2nd round on a defensive back.

Plugged in massive holes on our team just with our first 4 picks. Play it safe, take a flyer on a QB like Kelly in the 3rd.

If I was the FO, I'd see what WR would come here during the FA period. either a #2 or even a #1 if he wants to come here.

And all of a sudden, minus the running back position, Taylor has a better overall offense, including o line, than he did in buffalo. And we still get everything we want in the draft.

Or they could simply roll with RG3 and accomplish the same thing. Cause RG3 is only 26.

But the reason I think Hue and the FO will look at Tyrod is because he stays healthy. He does all the things RG3 does, except get injured.

Quarterback is the one position I have a problem with taking an insurance policy player on. You've gotta be all in with a guy. You can't have a QB worrying about looking over his shoulder. It's why I always feel a QB competition never ends well. The only exception I've seen was with Russell Wilson. If you're having a QB battle, you probably don't have a QB.
