Agree with everything you say Swish ... with the exception that I would not call Taylor an above average QB. . . . I think he could be. I think he's been too inconsistent. But as you say, he does everything RG3 does and is more solidly built. And yes you would need to cut ties with RG3 if we signed Taylor.

We haven't had luck with QB competitions.

Like....ever, here in cleveland.

That's why it has to be either or if it comes down to rg3 or Tyrod. Pick one, and the other has to go. Even if they decided Jimmy G was the answer, somebody has to go. So yea I agree, go all in that season.

I feel you bro. Tyrod certainly isn't bad, I think we can agree on that much. I just look at what he was able to accomplish with so many injuries to his weapons. He's got talent.

If JG was in this upcoming draft, where would he be slotted? I say he'd be the #1 QB prospect in this draft.

So...What draft pick would that be?

I wouldn't trade either of our 1st Rd picks for JG...but I'd darn sure trade one of those 2nd Rd picks for him.

Just curious if anyones opinion of Watson will change if he leads his team to victory against Alabama.

I'm not ruling out any QB bc you just never know how their career will blossom (or not). I'm just opposed to spending a first round pick on any of them. Second round though, get whoever you think will ball out.

I think Hue likes a mobile QB. His choice for this year was RG III, not McCown. He had Pryor in Oakland. What I expect for this next year is to ride with RG III and either bring in Taylor or draft Watson. That way the offense is set for similar style QBs, not a mobile d two pocket passers.

With McCown or Kessler playing, the running game vanished. I know, we had a bad OL, but was it terrible.. or was it a badly injured OL. With RG III playing, things opened up, Defenses had to account for his arm, and his feet, and the running game with Crowell opened up.

Pep may be gone. So the QB discussion may have to wait til a new OC is named, but I expect Hue to get someone similar to Pep or handle the Offense himself.

Taylor or Watson is what I expect...

One minor adjustment, Hue Jackson never played Terrelle Pryor with the Raiders.

But I do agree, he does seem to favor a QB who can be mobile.

Mobile as in what?

Dalton mobile? Yet a pocket passer.
Garoppolo mobile? Yet a pocket passer.
Trubisky mobile? Yet a pocket passer.
Kessler mobile. Yet a pocket passer.

Then there's:
Griffin mobile. Yet runs way too frequently. And quickly.
Watson mobile. Yet runs way too frequently. And. Quickly.
Taylor mobile. Runs way too frequently.

Major difference in those 2 groups.

When he was the HC in Oakland he traded for Jason Campbell and Carson Palmer...when he was w/ Raven he worked with Joe Flacco.

And he only had the surgery because buffalo tried to screw him over.

And he will be fully recovered before the FA period.

No one wanted RGIII. There should be several teams who want Tyrod Taylor.

Not mine, but i'm sure some will. Recency all weighs heavily. It happened with Derek Carr in a negative way when his team got housed by USC.

I think the sway of public/media/fan opinion has already started to sway back to the norm when it comes to Watson. High opinion headed into the season then imo negative over reaction due to his slow start. Since the Pitt loss he's been picking it back up and playing like the best QB in college football.

2 things alot of people miss about Watson on a quick take is how quickly he gets the ball out of hands (2.11 fastest in the NCAA) and they don't realize that outside of designed runs he doesn't look to take off and run as much as people think.

Griffin was brought to the team as a low risk option. He was there to be judged.

Kessler was a third round pick. Most thought he would go later. Hue liked some things about him and he was brought in as a developmental guy.

Hue has been around for quite some time. He has had experience with a number of different type quarterbacks.

He was the guy that made the trade with the Bengals to get Carson Palmer.

This is different. It appears the quarterback decision is his to make.

He now has options. Two first round picks. As well as possible trade partners.

Hue is now in the position to control his own fate.

It is my belief that given the choices available and the circumstances within the Browns; Hue has to look at near term not long term.

In regards to the draft. There is no doubt that Kizer and Trubisky could use another year. But Kizer has declared and Trubisky is 23.

Let's say Trubisky declares.

Both guys will need time. However, either you have the talent or you do not. Once on the roster no matter how you get there the clock starts. You either get better or you don't last long.

We have no clue what Hue thinks of Garoppolo. We have the usual draft BS about how we have scouted Kizer and how much we like Trubisky.

But let's get back to Hue. One would think he knows the draft picks are not plug and play guys. He knows they will need time and snaps. Which means more losing. Over what period of time? Given all factors within the Browns again realistically at least a couple of years.

Is Hue willing to play Griffin and or Kessler during that time? And slowly bring the rookie up to speed?

Or does Hue know how quickly you can be shoved out the door like he was in Oakland. Look at the Browns subtract the owner BS and know his time to win is limited.

If that is the way he reads the tea leaves and he sees Garoppolo as a legit starter my guess is he makes the trade. He still has Griffin and Kessler.

I'm gonna try to go in order and reply to some of your points...

I agree that Hue brought Griffin to be judged but also to be developed. And IF Hue's plan was to develop then judge then I don't think Hue has/can make a judgement yet because Griffin's development is incomplete.

You mention a key point with 'the circumstances within the Borwns'. I'm not sure you are referring to the talent level on the team? But that's how i take it. The talent level of the team is a factor because without a doubt Jimmy G will being going into a far worse set of circumstances compared to his limited playing time with the Patriots. AND spending resources to acquire Jimmy will take away from resources to build a better set of circumstance for a QB.

Who knows maybe Hue could feel that with more development Griffin could be equal the production you could get from Grapollo.

Imho whether or not the QBs are plug in play has as much to do with the quality of the coaching and the team then the prospect. For example recently many said that Dak, Tannehill and Cam weren't ready...but they were. But I digress.

I believe what most NFL HC's know is that once you make a huge investment at the QB position, the clock starts ticking. You have made your decision on a franchise QB and you will be judged accordingly. For the sake of your career, you better be careful about making that selection be it in the FA market or the draft.

Putting that decision off helps buy you more time.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I just don't trust him with the Kessler pick and RG3 crapshoot. Rookie can't be the answer for us IMO. So a FA vet with a spread of lower picks or cap is better IMO. Just make a decision that we can get behind, not one where it is unsatisfactory "but we gotta see more." I am not that curious. Enough project crap.

Kessler was not a bad pick. RG3 was just the best we could land for what was available. What exactly do you think should have been done differently? The fact is that last year AND this year the QB prospects SUCK. Doesn't matter if Hue knows QBs if there isn't one worth taking for him to work with. RG3 was worth a shot. Not Hue's fault the guy guy injured so soon. Again waht would you have had him do different?

Swish and mgh,

I don't get to follow many other teams so I'll admit I don't really know anything about Taylor. But both you guys seem to think he's got a lot of potential. Sounds to me like just the kind of QB Hue could have success with.

That's your opinion, of course.

But yes Devil, just with the theme of thread being what kind of QB does Hue want, he did a ton of things with dalton.

Tyrod Taylor is, IMO, a potentially better version of him. Certainly more athletic. And we won't have to give up any resources on him.

But Hue seems to definitely want a QB who has wheels on him. Who will actually use them as a weapon, even if just the threat of running.

Borderline statutes aren't gonna cut it.

I think in the end Hue wants a guy who will execute his damn offense. I like Kessler, but Hue was obviously frustrated with him not being able to bring himself to push the ball downfield. I also think that he's not as high on RG3's performances as RG3 is.

Wentz didn't perform all that great. He did OK. The Cowboys sure didn't think Dak would be as good as he is. Dallas even admitted that. Just a pure luck pick because no one before the draft that much of dak. To be honest I think ANY decent QB would have played well in Dallas with the support cast that is there.

I did like wentz though so I would have drafted him instead of trading out but I certainly never felt he was all that and so far he hasn't shown anything special yet. I mean he only threw 16 td and 14 interceptions. Hell in some cases Kessler has played better in a much worse playing environment.

I agree with you. I don't think kessler has the arm and I don't think RG3 has the brain. Jimmy G has both to spare and would make HUe a happy man =)

QB is a premium position. Sometimes to get one you have to take them much higher than they are worth and hope for the best. I felt like wentz might take 2-3 seasons to mature as a QB. so IF and that's a big IF we had to take a QB I was ok with Wentz or Paxton. Not because they were the best players but because I felt they were QBs with a potential to develop into decent starters.

The same thing will happen this year. At least 3 to 4 teams will draft QB's much higher than they are worth because it's the only ones available.

I'd rather build a fantastic oline and be able to run the ball at will. Then you only need a game managing or efficient but safe QB. Those kind of QB can be found easily. Hell Kessler can even fit the bill for that kind of offense.

Razor normally I'd hate the philosophy you mentioned, but we've been so bad for so long.

Why the hell not? If Hue doesn't want a QB, win next year by running the ball and playing defense. We've had too many guys feel pressured and end up drafting a bad QB in a "win now and keep my job" mode.

Winning what? A game, Our Division, The Super Bowl, Our first Playoff game in a long long time?

btw...I see you are a risk taker with your prediction...lol

If RG3 plays in our first 10 games at least we will be looking at least at .500 next season. Trubisky might be ready to come in after 10 games if we need him to do so.

A lot will depend on our Defense!

We are not winning any significant amount of games.

Being a risk taker is usually not a prerequisite for making a prediction. The most important quality in predicting things is being correct, not taking risks.

Teams don't go from one win to anything significant the next season.

No one asked me to predict anything.

I would prefer to wait until after things happen before making a specific prediction.

Anyone who thinks we will be good (or even average) next year is creating unrealistic expectations.
