Might have another change in the coaching staff soon.....

#Browns may have more of a staff shakeup than imagined: AHC-Offense Pep Hamilton is weighing a departure to join #Michigan & Jim Harbaugh.

If #Browns de facto OC Pep Hamilton leaves for #Michigan, it won't be a firing. Cleveland wants him to stay. He likes being a college coach

Complete guess - no proof - just going on human nature.

I think he wishes to create an offense head to toe. Here its basically Hue's O with Hue doing most of the calling of plays.

Now will Harbaugh have control of the offense then I just don't understand this departure to be an almost OC in college would be worse than in the NFL.

Unless the rumors of Harbaugh possibly leaving for an NFL job??? I thought that was just talk cause he has a good gig and at the college of his choice.

We do have Al Saunders to step in the Role of Pep Hamilton. Promoting his son Bob to WRs Coach (he is asst. WR coach now)

Problem is, he wouldn't be the OC at Michigan either as Michigan just signed a 5 year extension with OC Tim Drevno. This would be a lateral move to college at best.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out with he Senior Bowl if Pep Hamilton does decide to leave and take the job with Harbaugh and Horton out....

I don't think they're gonna pull the Senior Bowl invite due to coordinator changes....

It would be nice to keep Pep and add QB coach...would hurt to lose him...if he goes I wonder if they can find an upgrade?

I'm wondering if Pep wants out because he knows he is next in line to take the blame for the team losing so many games?

Do you have proof that Horton was fired due to the team losing 15 of 16 games? (Assuming he actually IS fired.) No one on the planet thinks Horton is to blame for the losing record. What if he was fired because he and Hue didn't see eye-to-eye? That happens a lot.

What if Pep and Hue aren't seeing eye-to-eye?

We will likely never know for sure.

One thing for sure though, this FO and Hue do a GREAT job of NOT airing their dirty laundry in public.

.....or could it be that the Michigan gig is just a better deal for Pep? Leaving a 1-15 program for one that's becoming elite seems like an easy decision.

I can't blame Hamilton for exploring his options. Harbaugh at Michigan is bullet proof, he would provide great job security. Also, if you are a Harbaugh assistant you are much more likely to get a head coaching job at some point (Mike Sanford at Western Kentucky, Willie Taggert at Oregon, David Shaw at Stanford, Scott Shafer at Syracuse, and D.J. Durkin at Maryland).

All that without mentioning Haslam's history of firing coaches. I'd leave if I were Hamilton.

I wasnt a big fan of Pep but he cant really advance his career under Hue. Offense does great well its Hue. think he will do better as an OC in college anyway. future college HC.

With the proven lack of stability at all Browns coaching positions, I believe he would be a fool to stick around here.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

IF Pep should leave, what do you Dawgs think the odds of McCown retiring as a player and being brought in as his replacement would be?

Hue clearly thinks highly of Josh and believes he has promise as a coach. Josh would still be working with the QB's and assuming Hue is still calling plays next season, it's not like we'd be putting full OC responsibilities on his shoulders.

I think it's too soon for an almost OC position. McCown needs a few years as a qb coach first.

Hamilton can't cut it at the NFL level
why the Browns keep on hiring other teams failures at QB and coordinators is why they are constantly in the cellar.
Hamilton was fired in Indy for a reason

I'm not a McCown supporter... He's played in 82 games in a 13 yr career. And remember the ones he left early due to injury.

He's been on 10 NFL teams not including the 2010 UFL team Hartford.

He's 18-42 as a starter... Why in the hell does he get the love he does. ? I hope he leaves Cleveland and never comes back.

Yeah, and ultimately I know you're right. Even if this was a possibility I'm not 100% convinced this organization is stable enough yet for Hue to take on an intern of sorts.

I just thought it interesting timing seeing as the recent comments about Josh coaching and the possible job opening I could see him holding down one day.

Bernie has never wanted to be an assistant coach, as far as I know.

Not that I remember specifically you beating on Horton all season, maybe you did, maybe you didn't, don't remember.

But lots of folks were pretty ticked off at Hortons Defensive perfomance.. I mean LOTS of folks on this board alone, not to mention other places I go.

So I'm not sure this is a scapegoating thing going on here at all.

No, I have been consistent that the problems on defense were talent related rather than coaching related.

No question talent was an issue, but that doesn't mean there wasn't also coaching that was bad. Maybe he was replaced for those reasons rather than simply defensive rankings.

The coaching was bad on offense as well. Not like we were lighting up the scoreboard. So if performance is the criteria for firing a coach after one season with almost no talent and installing a new and complicated system? Hue Jackson and Pep should be fired as well.
Then considering it was Hue Jackson that HIRED the lowly Horton in the first place.....

I know this, Horton was Jackson's mulligan. Our defense BETTER take a huge leap next season. Of course, we are back at year one now, learing yet ANOTHER system. Thankfully, the 4-3 is easier to learn.

Maybe so. The one report said he likes being a college coach better.

Nothing wrong with that. In many ways
, I would be the same. The money is good enough and the season mostly ends in Nov.,early Dec. and starts in Aug. rather than July.

If PEP does leave, what about bringing in McCoy as the OC?
Not a great HC but a pretty good offensive mind.
Of course HUE would have to give up play calling
But I prefer the HC not to be the playcaller - too many other things for his attention

He'll probably want to call his own plays wherever he goes. He will not be able to do that with Hue Jackson as the head coach.

My guess is that we just promote Kirby Wilson.

It often seems that many offensive coaches want to start off calling plays, and then later turn that duty over to an assistant.

Even if Pep stays I think the Browns could still use a QB coach

If Pep goes I think OC candidates are gonna come from the QB coach ranks. Current OC can't make lateral moves w/o the Assistant HC title. And the current experienced OC will probably want to call plays.

I would go after Panthers, Seattle, KC staffs.

I'm pretty sure that all assistant coaches are considered equal.
So even though Qb coach to OC seems like a promotion, as far as the NFL is concerned, that is a lateral move.
