I think the #1 pick is setled after last night game.
Now we just have to hope we don't trade down...

I think we will look hard at both QB candidates. Great thing is that Hue I believe will be coaching him and getting a great look at Watson in the Senior Bowl.
Got to make this pick right... that was an impressive game by Watson...slow start and then WOW!
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

But I'm not sure he has all the tools to be an NFL QB. Myles Garrett is a good safe bet, I'd consider Watson with our #12 pick. But if he isn't there, life will go on.

After the game last night I figured everyone would be on the Watson wagon.
Before the the college season began Watson was the number one guy on the first Mocks.
I want to like Watson. The guy has had a great college career.
Some things though have to be kept in perspective. Clemson is a good program and has produced good teams. There is talent around Watson. He has good receivers.
College stats can be very misleading. The Clemson offense is not like what Watson will play in the NFL.
Watson delivered. He played the way he was asked to play. He played big in big games. That is important. He also has had gained good experience by playing three years.
He is a very good athlete. He can run and throw. He is a leader and seems to have the right mental make-up.
He is has a good arm. However, he is inconsistently accurate. Ball placement is often not good.
Sometimes I watch him and think he is next Warren Moon. Other times I am not so sure.
In the end he should be looked at closely and strongly considered. Trubisky and Kizer likewise.
Watson is not an automatic and not a sure thing. Neither is Trubisky or Kizer.

Agreed. I just don't see a number 1 QB there. Mariota and Winston, I saw it. I thought I saw it in Goff (wasn't comfortable with Wentz). I'll be sorely dissapointed at this point if we used a number 1 on Watson. Garrett IMO is a stud prospect at an impact position. He's gotta be the pick.

The combine, personal workouts, interviews will be the determinant with regards to who the Browns draft. Numbers only tell you so much.

Now we just have to hope we don't trade down... Would you still feel that way if they had correctly called Offensive Pass Interference on the last TD and Clemson ended up losing the game? He and his draft stock are on a high right now. The key aspect of draft season is picking apart those that are up high and building up those that are lower.. He will be picked apart, constantly, probably by the same talking heads singing his praises right now..
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

Are we really going to start pimping a QB with the "he's a winner" analysis again? I distinctly remember that being all some people had to say in praising Tebow & Manziel. As good as Watson is, I still wouldn't even think of taking him w/ our #1 pick. Interceptions a red flag for Deshaun WatsonPosted by Mike Florio on January 10, 2017, 10:22 AM EST It makes plenty of sense for Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson to head to the NFL. He won’t improve his stock at all by returning to college football and continuing to play for far less than what he brings to the table. The question now becomes what really is his stock? By playing at a very high level in a pair of NCAA championship games against Alabama’s NFL-caliber defense, Watson has proven that he can perform in a big spot. It’s still not known whether he, or any other college player, will perform at a high level at the next level. Here’s the one red flag for Watson: His interceptions. He threw 17 in 2016, and he had 13 in 2015. To have that many passes picked off against college defenses, the question becomes how many would that be against NFL-caliber defensive backs? One way for NFL teams to answer that will be to look at every throw from every game and assess whether each pass, if made in an NFL game, would have resulted in a completion, an incompletion, or an interception. When former West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith had 25 touchdown passes and zero interceptions during an early-season Heisman run five years ago, one scout who studied Smith’s performances said that Smith would have had three interceptions against Maryland alone, if the Terrapins had only a moderately competent free safety. So if Watson had 30 total interceptions in two seasons at Clemson, how many would that be at the next level? There’s only one way to find out.

The biggest mistakes in judging talent usually happen when you try to make a decision based on a players best or worst performance.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Kellen Moore, Colt McCoy, Dan LeFevour, ... ... lol, were that many on this board hyping Kellen Moore with an early pick? The guys we were mentioning were getting mentioned for early picks. Same with LeFevour. I don't think anyone wanted him in the first round. I was on the LeFevour in the 3rd round group, lol Now Colt McCoy, he probably a group behind him going real early. But the Troy Smith craze. Now that was something. There were folks that thought he was an early 1st round pick.

Troy Smith played so much better than Alex Smith when they were 9ers and it wasn't even close. Troy Smith left the 9ers at the wrong time and he was too old for a FA QB with limited success.

Says the guy pimping Trubisky just because.
Your logic applies to every single QB in the draft. Ever.
Anyway
The #1 overall should be Garrett. At 12 though? I would understand them taking him there. Especially if the defensive player they are targeting there is already off the board.

It's an excellent point. I always started evaluating players w/their worst performances. I think weaknesses are extremely important in evaluating players. That isn't to be negative, but it is about ............can we fix this? Can we improve that? Is this something that this guy will never be able to do? Scouting and coaching are different. When I coached, I emphasized what they could do. You build on it. You keep guys out of bad situations. But scouting, you gotta start w/weaknesses. Oh..........and about Watson. That sounds so Browns-like. Analytics will probably tell them to draft him because he wore orange in college.

Vers if it eases your mind Watson is generally considered a mid 1st by analytics. Though isn't that mostly on hues shoulders?

Thanks for the info.
I am not confident in the Brown's ability to evaluate qbs. They had Goff over Wentz. They thought RGIII might be a long-term answer. They drafted Kessler earlier than I would have ever imagined.

Of course not.
So why you throw manziel's name in the mix with your post?
I'm only going off of what you posted.
And you named a guy who didn't win a title. All well.

Doesn't matter what system they run in college. They will all have to learn a new system in the pros anyways.
If you want to predict a QB's success you look at his decision making skills like reading the defense before and after the snap.
Then you look at how he throws the football. When the ball hits the receiver is it routinely in the numbers or leading the receiver to YAC facing the direction he should be headed? OR is the ball just in the general area, behind the receiver to where they have to twist backwards for it. How he places the ball for the receivers on a regular basis is a key to knowing if they see the field and understand it well enough to anticipate where to throw it or if they are simply winging it and reacting after the fact.
I challenge you to go rewatch that film and carefully watch the position the WR are put in when they are catching the ball. Are the WR forced to make a lot of acrobatic catches or do they look easy and matter of fact like they KNOW the ball will be where it is supposed to be.
There is a reason the WR for Clemsen are getting a lot of accolades. Take an honest rewatch of the video and you will see why that is.
You can't fix stupid but you can destroy ignorance. When you destroy ignorance you remove the justifications for evil. If you want to destroy evil then educate our people. Hate is a tool of the stupid to deal with what they can't understand.

Deshaun Watson just beat Alabama in the national championship. in the weeks prior to the game, Walt and I surveyed teams around the league to see where their initial draft grades were for Watson. Two playoff teams told me they had third-round grades on Watson. One said it was on the low end as a third- to fourth-rounder. A high-ranking personnel man on a playoff team told Walt that they had a third-round grade on Watson. Two other teams said they had second-round grades on Watson. Another team thought that Watson still could be a late first-round quarterback, similar to Teddy Bridgewater, because of the dire need at the position across the NFL. http://walterfootball.com/nfldraftrumormillGeesh. I'm not even that harsh. I'd take him higher than that just based on his physical tools and character.
