Vers. The most perfectly laid out plans will require Tweaking at times. That's all we're doing.

Get Roman in here now and Garoppolo and let's go to fa and the Draft.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

The tackling was awful, but how often do you think NFL teams practice tackling? Seriously?

cfrs? Dep? Memphis? Etc.................any of you wanna help him out on this one?

Or, you just going to let it go because it makes Horton look bad?

I'm confused. Aren't we all supposed to be ignoring you so that you can spin this into a failure of the front office?

Please make your mind up what your plan is and stick to it. I like to see continuity.

There were/are rumors that he was/is going there. They kept Mornhinweg as offensive coordinator though.

The good tackling teams or the poor tackling teams?

I'm guessing the good tackling teams practice it more.

I recall the Seahawks and Steelers spending a good amount of time on it.

It'd be nice to see Haslam invest in some of those robot tackling dummies they developed at Dartmouth.

Tackling didn't seem to get much time in Cleveland based on the results on the field.

Actually, I thought the tackling improved considerably on this team from the year before. It was really bad early but these guys improved a great deal. We lost Dansby and Robertson, two of the best tacklers on this team and brought in all these rookies but they made steady improvement throughout the year.

Shelton hands were much stronger and he went from a lot of whiffing to someone that could pull a back down with one hand.

Kirksey doubled his numbers.

Kindred struggled early missing tackles but really came on strong before the injury.

Throughtout this defense, tackling improved and Horton's staff imho made a big difference in that area.

Hated the scheme but missed tackles wasnt as big of an issue as the season wore on. Horton had issues getting the right people on the field, lack of communication in the secondary but he and his staff did some good things as well especially with a very young defense that lost Dansby, Robertson, Gipson and Whitner.

Not defending Horton, but I agree. There were a large compliment of missed tackles, perhaps due to positioning or angle, but I did notice more "wrapping up" toward the end of the season. It's possible this became a point of emphasis as the season wore on.

He might be attached to one of the head coaching candidates. Also, I read earlier today that Washington was going hard after him after they fired their defensive coordinator.

Then WE go hard after him and offer him substantially more money. There is no salary cap on staff. If we are switching to yet ANOTHER defensive scheme it would be nice to get a guy like Bradley.

The continued defensive success in Seattle with Bradley and Quinn (and the defensive failures of Bradley and Quinn) make me wonder how much credit we should attribute to the former coaches and how much credit we should attribute to Carroll, Schneider, and the players (Thomas, Sherman, Chancellor, Bennett, Avril, Wagner, etc.).

Obviously, talent has a lot to do with defensive success. Bradley and Quinn went from having a roster filled with talent to a team that had little. Also, they went from being DC's to head coaches. Romeo sucked as an HC but is obviously a terrific DC. I think Bradley and Quinn have shown they can get the job done if they have the talent to do so. The point is moot as we hired the first guy we talked to. I would have preferred a more thorough search. However, if Hue Jackson made the hire and it was his decision then that is how it should be. The front office hires the head coach, the head coach is in 100% control of his coaching staff barring some unforeseen problem with a particular coach. Criminal actions, etc. Otherwise, the HC is the man to assemble his staff. Period. I have not heard otherwise so I presume this hire was made by Coach Jackson and so he is judged by that choice. If our D improves, good decision Coach. If our D continues to struggle then Jackson gets fired and we more on.

Practice time has been drastically cut under the recent CBA. Practice with pads even more so. The time where you could go over it and over it until they got it is gone.... Overall tackling in the NFL will continue to deteriorate as will every other skill that takes practice. A dirty word in the modern NFL.

That's possible, but I just don't understand.

Tackling is taught in Pop Warner leagues. It's taught at the jr. high level, it's taught in h.s., it shouldn't have to be taught after that. You hit, and wrap. That's tackling.

JMO, but if tackling someone is something that needs to be taught at the nfl level, it's too late. Hit and wrap. There, I just taught every player how to tackle.

But too many want to make the highlight hit.

Hit, lift, and drive.

That doesn't sell anymore with the modern player.

It is what it is. The modern NFL.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

That's what they taught me in Pee Wee. Wrap up, lift up, drive through the tackle. Of course, we did tackling drills every practice. If we screwed up we did laps. My coach was 6'6 and an ex-defensive end for the Bears. He played with Butkus for a year or two and then blew a knee. Had a HUGE scar. His boys played PW so he coached. Scary as a kid having this huge dude as a coach, but he was really patient and taught us a lot about the game. But man did we run a lot of laps. smile
