Bad assistant coaches will be Mattas downfall. They can't recruit, coach or develop guys. You need to be able to do at least one.

Hey, The #12 ranked Buckeye women are in town tonight against Powerhouse UConn. 7 pm EST

Buckeye Forward Makayla Waterman

UConn is looking for their 85th consecutive win. (Their record - which UConn holds - is 90 games)

I don’t think they do point spreads for women’s basketball.

I’d put UConn at a ~ 15-20 point favorite.

No Christmas miracle this year.

UConn........82
Ohio State..63

Makayla did have a triple single - one rebound, one steal two points.

She is so good.

Grayson Allen is a punk bitch and I hope somebody decks him.

Coach K gives lectures to Dillon Brooks because "showboating is beneath him" but let's Allen go around tripping people.

yeah, not a good look for Allen/Duke now. Something needs to be done

New Buckeye recruit Point Guard Braxton Beverly.

These guys have to pass physicals don't they? Braxton looks like he's missing a few parts.

Wait a minute. Is this that Bell's Palsy?

It could be very well be this year if he doesn't recruit some talent. His recruiting has been subpar at best since his class with Oden and Conley. Still can't believe he couldn't win a title with that class.

My brother is a basketball coach who has had some players recruited by Matta. He swears that Matta is a snake. I've never really seen my brother dislike any one person that much.

He said that Thad would make false promises. He said that Thad was about Thad rather than the kids. He said he told kids things and then turned his back on them. Dishonest.

On the other hand, he said Izzo from Michigan State is as sincere of a guy as you can meet.

I hate that type of coaching even though we all know it happens everywhere.

Be honest with the kid, let them know where you envision them within the program and then give them the chance to succeed. I don't actually doubt that with Matta Vers, he seems like that type of guy.

I think its time to cut ties. Find a real motivator. OSU Ball should not be this unproductive with the facilities and environment we are able to offer.

We should remember that tOSU isn't the place most future NBA players come to play. There are a whopping 5 guys that are still in the league going all the way back to '07.
I think that kinda thing should be factored in when weighing a guys job security.

That goes back to recruiting and coaching my man. If you cant recruit well, and don't develop the guys that you do, that is on you as a coach. Matta has to own that.

I know, but how do you recruit guys that are that good to come to your football school to play basket ball?

I will add this. I don't know if any of what my brother said is actually true. I have not had any personal dealings w/Thad. My brother is very religious and I have never known him to lie.

I was surprised by his dislike for Thad, because he isn't really that kind of guy. But, then again..........I do know that he personally spoke to Motta on numerous occasions and perhaps they just rubbed each other the wrong way. It happens.

It's tough. It's weird that it is so hard to do but really, which colleges have consistently been national competitors in both football and basketball over the last 20 years? Occasionally a football school will have the basketball team make a run for a couple years or vice versa but it just seems like nobody sustains it.

Florida in 2007 and 2008. However, that will never be done again. Ohio State is one of the few schools that could pull it off. You need a traditionally dominant football school to have a fluke year in basketball (which is possible with a 64 team tourney).

You could almost say the same thing for the basketball schools. Look at Duke, North Carolina, Kansas and Kentucky. They are usually in a spot to play for national championships in basketball on a yearly basis. But their football teams have been very "meh" over the same course of those years, save a fluke season here and there.

Another blow-out

Wisconsin crush the Buckeyes 89-66.

The announcers kept saying stuff like "The Buckeye's record doesn't really reflect how good Matta has been."

Yeah, I know what they mean. I go by tie/sports jacket color coordination.

That and personal hygiene.

Regardless, when national TV announcers start filling blowout time with this type of chatter, it usually means the coach has one foot out the door.

I don't really expect much from Ohio State basketball, pretty much ever. I understand it is what it is, because football is so big there. I would be ok with a change though. I don't think they will ever get a big name coach to come to Columbus, but I think they can probably do a little better.

Thad is an average coach who happened to have a few select years where he had some REALLY good players, and that's about it.

NW is most likely tournament bound for the first time ever I believe.

I don't watch many OSU games, but it seems to me to be a program going in reverse.

This program is in shambles. Recruiting is not everything. Look lazy at both ends at times. Just less energy than is needed. Maybe Matta;s run is done. This group seems pretty indifferent at times. Coaching? Players? Both?

I have seen much better ball. This is not just a youth issue. Run 'em harder. Dis appointing to watch.

If you hope to have any success in college basketball, unless you are at a small school or in the Ivy League, you better learn how to win with freshmen and lots of them.

If you aren't starting freshmen and winning, that means none of the freshmen and sophomores you had last year are getting drafted, which means they weren't in that upper echelon of talent, which means either you weren't recruiting well or you didn't put these kids in a position to showcase that talent..

I've been meaning to post how tOSU hoops has fallen off the map, I guess it's been a 3 year slump, but Thad Matta has done a really good job, underrated.

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/tournament/history/_/team1/7012

I guess I was spoiled during my time at tOSU, it just feels we've fallen off the map. I really don't watch much college basketball though

And that is a win, a good road win.

Columbus has culture, Columbus has a culture suited to mold basketball talent.

Spend 4 years in Columbus, and tell me you are not a more well rounded individual, it's hard not to do.

I really hope the Cavs can find a way to get Marc Loving. I really do think he can be good even if he's not drafted.
