Not responding to anyone in particular:
I got to thinking about this a little. I'm not, nor have I ever really been a good judge of QB talent.
But this much I do believe. We don't have the answer currently on the squad. At least I don't believe so. There is no Brady or Rodgers or Big Ben or Ryan on this team as it stands today.
So they gotta get someone anywhere they can.
If Jimmy G is the guy, so be it.

I agree the jury is still out on some of these guys but so far????? I watched Julio Jones in the Atl game and thought Yeah we didn't need that guy. We traded down and got Taylor from Baylor Just because Jimmy G trained under Brady & BB doesn't seem like a bad thing. You're right Peen. This last draft needs more time but I'm not holding my breath. Sorry about getting off on a tangent

Just to clear some air on this topic. There have been comments made about Belichick. Like why we want to get a guy that Belichick is willing to part with?
And I wouldn't want a guy with such limited NFL game film. And what about Cassel, Mallett, Oswieler etc.
First being a Patriot and working with Belichick and Brady could not be a better situation for a young player coming out of college. The Patriot way or Belichick way teaches you how to be a professional. How to prepare. What type of dedication it takes.
The success of the Patriots is truly remarkable. And it is not an accident.
Garoppolo was drafted by Belichick in the second round. That in itself is significant. Belichick had to like Garoppolo. It had to be in his plans that Garoppolo was going to take over when Brady retired.
The thing the Belichick did not see at that time was that Brady could still be effective at high level for longer than what he first thought.
Even if the Browns do not get him it will be interesting to see what happens with him.
So many times over the past oh say 20 years many opportunities have slipped by. Then people come out with the common refrain of "Ï wish we would have".

It had to be in his plans that Garoppolo was going to take over when Brady retired. Let's look at alternative facts ok? Where Jimmy G was drafted doesn't appear to be important. Tom Brady was drafted in the 6th Round. Belichick just got lucky with Brady.. Kelly ann Conway would be so proud of me LOL

If Hue is good with JG, then he's probably our best bet over the QBs coming out. Also depends on NE's price. There has been a boatload of speculation on if he's even available, much less his price. I don't want to give away any 1st rounders (I'd consider a swap). if we can get him for a late 2nd or 3rd, I say pull the trigger, unless Hue is in love with someone in the draft.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I read something about Joe Thomas rooting for the Patriots to win the Super Bowl because he wants to see the moment Goodell hands the trophy to Tom Brady.
...that got me thinking a bit..could the Browns package a trade deal with the Patriots that has Garoppolo coming to the Browns in exchange for Joe Thomas?
Any such deal could possibly include draft picks and other players.
Checking the Patriots contract situation and OT Sebastian Vollmer, is due to be a free agent in 2017 if he is not resigned and he missed the regular season due to a shoulder surgery and a hip problem. He is 32 and started for the Patriots in 80 games over 7 yrs.
The Patriots used Marcus Cannon at RT, replacing Vollmer this season and Cannon is under contract until 2020.
On the surface, I don't see a need for the Patriots to make such a deal so I'm skeptical that there is any kind of trade between the Patriots and Browns with the primary subjects being Garoppolo and Joe T.
...just throwing it out there for consideration.
Here is a link to the story... link

Sounds wild to me, but I am at a point of selling high if possible.
I want Joe to retire a Brown, but I also know that doesn't happen often. We just got lucky on the contract cycles with Joe.
Again, I don't want to trade him. That would be like, going back to my era, trading Lou Groza or Jim Brown. You just didn't do that.
But I concede that my era is dead.

I would not trade Joe away for anything. He has earned the right to finish his career here. We just need to get him to the play offs while he is here. I think we can do it too.

Again, I don't want to. Joe is a good guy. At some point he probably wants to be on a non rebuilding team and actually compete for a SB ring. At some point you might be best to seek it with someone else down the line and allow him to seek it now with someone else. Joe only has a few more years of being one of the best ever. If you know you aren't going to get there inside his best years, maybe you need to do both a favor and get the best for both. Long term for the team, short term for him. To me, that isn't the end of a marriage. It's just a separation that will again come together.

peen, there is no way that Joe Thomas is going to be part of any trade for Jimmy G. It is just mac making crap up to pull at the heart strings of Brown's fans because he doesn't want us to trade for Jimmy G.
It's the same despicable argument as the other ones he has made, such as NE liking Brisset more and the idiotic Osweiler comparison. Heck, Jimmy G is NOT even a FA this year. We would have to trade for him, not get in a bidding war.
Can't believe you are buying into his nonsense?????????????

With Joe I let him slide over to RT and then slide into back up role if he is willing to do it. Then I'd even make him an o-line coach after that. Surrounding yourself with capable people is always a sure fire way to succeed.

Trade delusion. Speaking of trade offers for quarterbacks, we are approaching the time of year for hyperbole about what quarterbacks could potentially bring in draft compensation. NFL general managers understand how precious currency first-round draft picks are, especially for their long-term financial value. To think that a team is giving up 1) a first-round pick for Jimmy Garoppolo or 2) two first-round picks for Kirk Cousins (assuming he receives the franchise tag) is, well, delusional. Yes, Sam Bradford netted a first, but that was a move made in the post-injury desperation of training camp, not the quiet premeditation of March. Not happening. http://mmqb.si.com/mmqb/2017/01/24/nfl-b...y-roger-goodell

Who is the genius who wrote that?
Is he talking about first round picks like Gilber, Weeden, TRich, Taylor, Mingo, Manziel, Erving, etc?
I am not pretending to know exactly know what compensation NE or Washington would/will receive for those two qbs, but his use of the word "delusional" is well......delusional.

I wasn't even aware there was talk about JT for JG. How stupid would that be? I was simply saying I can see some logic to at some point consider trading Joe.

I wasn't even aware there was talk about JT for JG. How stupid would that be? There wasn't. It was mac who brought it up in another lame attempt to convince people of not supporting the Jimmy G trade. Here is what he said: ...that got me thinking a bit..could the Browns package a trade deal with the Patriots that has Garoppolo coming to the Browns in exchange for Joe Thomas? He "got to thinking a bit" because Joe said he would like to see Goodel having to present Brady w/the trophy. There was no discussion of a Jimmy G for Joe T trade. It was just mac "thinking."

1. you are putting a value on First round picks from our past record...which the fact you are doing that is sort of delusional.
2. The guy was talking about the NFL as a whole especially at draft time...nothing is more valuable than a first round pick at this time of year.
3. I think it was Obvious that mac was giving a train of thought thing. It actually had logic behind it.
4. The only way I would consider trading Joe Thomas is if he ASKED TO BE TRADED...which up till now is the farthest from his goal.

j/c: Patriots Reportedly Holding Out For First-Round Pick In Trade For Jimmy Garoppolo
Mike Freeman of B/R confirms that the Patriots are open to trading backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo as other reports have said. However, his sources have said that New England continues to ask for a first-round pick in return for Garoppolo. Freeman’s source explained that the Patriots are willing to be patient in regards to moving Garoppolo and wait until someone either offers them the first-round pick they’re reportedly seeking or a package of picks that they deem to be suitable. Freeman adds that the Patriots believe Tom Brady has “several” more years left in him and don’t feel any pressure to trade Garoppolo right now. Last weekend, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported that the Patriots will listen to trade offers for Garoppolo but there’s no guarantee he’ll be traded to the top bidder. “The Patriots are open to trading Jimmy Garoppolo and they are going to listen to all offers, as they have over the last couple years for Garoppolo — and they have gotten a couple inquiries,” Rapoport said. “But from what I am being told there are several complicating factors: First of all, the price tag, expected to be at least a first-round pick — just based off the quarterback market. Will anyone give them that? Second of all, are the Patriots really comfortable going forward with Jacoby Brissett as their backup quarterback in case Tom Brady gets hurt? That might be the biggest question of all.” Adam Schefter of ESPN (NFLTR) previously mentioned that the starting point for a potential Garoppolo trade would likely consist of a first- and a fourth-round pick, which is what the Eagles got for Sam Bradford from the Vikings at the start of the season. Garoppolo, 25, is a former second-round pick of the Patriots back in 2014. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $3,483,898 rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $686,718 for the 2016 season. Next year, Garoppolo has a base salary of $820,077 to go along with a $75,000 workout bonus. In 2016, Garoppolo has completed 68.3 percent of his passes for 502 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions for the Patriots over the course of six games. We’ll have more regarding a potential Garoppolo trade as the news is available. http://nfltraderumors.co/patriots-reportedly-holding-first-round-pick-trade-jimmy-garoppolo/

Browns 2nd round pick (#33) is same as a 1st for the Patriots, since they'll most likely be taking their 1st at #32. At least that's how I'd try to spin it, if I was offering it. A 4th is nothing, we have 3 picks in the 4th.

... and wait until someone either offers them the first-round pick they’re reportedly seeking or a package of picks that they deem to be suitable. I narrowed out the article to what I think are the most important parts. It clearly say: or a package of picks that they deem to be suitable. That indicates to me that while they are asking for a 1st, they don't really believe that they would get it and will trade him for less than 1st. IMO, They would likely take two second round picks

It may not even take two second round picks... or maybe not both this year.
All speculation at this point. . . negotiations will heat up after the SB and before the draft.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

All speculation at this point. . . negotiations will heat up after the SB and before the draft. Things will get really interesting if its in the mid second round of the draft and he hasn't been dealt yet. Thats when the Browns offer #50 and at least a 3rd next year. Who would offer a first? The Bears? NO! They might offer their second. The Redskins? The 9r's? NO. But their second rounder may be doable. The Texans? It seems they are stuck with Osweiler for at least next year. The Jets? Bill won't trade him to the Jets. Won't happen. What are your thoughts?

Man I haven't been able to get in here for a while.. Anyway..I'm not of the feeling of giving up a high pick for a QB who might just be average, when I think there are several QB's in this draft who may have more upside than JG has.

And that is what it boils down to, rather than all that other fabricated nonsense that some are spewing. Attack, I see it the other way. I think Jimmy G is a better prospect than any of the QBs in this draft. I think he is a better decision maker and can go through his progressions quickly. He is a much "safer" option in my mind. But again, I have no problem w/those who don't feel that way.
