If you have never been to London, do it. Great city. You might even think about adding a day or two if the price point works. Lot's to do and see. Been there 7 times, and look forward to my eighth. Heck, I might even look in to this

Tempting. Until you figure in 2 tickets for airfare. Time off work (I get no paid vacation), add in taxes, hotel, transportation, meals, etc.

I'd easily be looking at $6,000, low end.

To get to watch the Browns in London.

Granted, it would be a place I've never been before, so that would be cool.

But, add in 5 days or so there...........I'm approaching $7-10,000, for me and my wife. This guy can't afford it.

I am at the point where I would not attend a Browns game if it was free.

Sometimes things can't always be measured in money. Sometimes the memory is worth the money spent.

That said, no doubt you are going to spend several thousands above the package cost unless you just sit around your room all day.

Arch must be eating at gourmet restaurants and sleeping at five star hotels because no way that costs an extra 6-10k to spend a few days in London.

I traveled all around Austria for a week and it was about 500 not including airfare. Of course, this was using public transportation and not limos like Arch uses.

Yea as someone who lived in Europe, Arch must be getting private drivers and buying 75 euro meals for 1. Never in my life have I spent that much going over there.

take 2 airfare tickets at $600 each. thats $1200. add in taxes and fees, it's easily $1500, if not approaching $2000.

If I'm flying to London for a game, I'm not an in and out person - I'll spend a week. $150 a night? 5 nights, that's another $750, plus taxes and fees, so, say another grand.

So, not including food costs, transportation costs, and the little things, just doing it at a minimum.........damn right, 6 grand is a minimum.

Youre doing it wrong. You dont need to spend 150 a night on hotel. Stay at a mom n pop place for cheap and have better service. Dont take a taxi. Walk or take public transportation. Dont eat at fancy restaurants. Eat at locals only joints. It doesnt cost 6k. Well, only spoiled Americans will pay 6k.

We were just in England for 3 weeks last summer. All over southeast England and London. We even rented a car and the total of our travels were not even close to this. AND, there are 4 of us. Admittedly, when we go we can stay with friends and family. But, we still paid for food, went to grocery, went out on the town, did some touristy things etc. etc. Accommodation is pricey in London as it is in NYC/SF etc. However, B&B/Air B&B are not as pricey as hotels. Certain neighborhoods are cheaper than others. You don't have to stay miles outside of the city center...certain neighborhoods right in the city center are cheaper than others. You just have to do your research.

With the pound drop it makes it much cheaper. Sure, it will still be pricey but, 7-10k? Nope.

However, if I were to go to London, I'm making a trip out of it. If I'm just going to watch a game? I'll drive to Cleveland.

Do the math with me. Game in Cleveland. Say tickets are $50 each. There's $100. Toll road, there and back, $25. Parking $25. Gas, $20. minimum.

That includes no 5 star restaurants, and in fact includes no food, or drink.

So, those $100 tickets are now at $170, with no food or drink factored in.

Imagine going to London. You think you could do it for the $600 plane ticket? Or would you yourself spend at least 3 grand?

I dont know what I would spend 3k on. For me, going to Europe is an experience that I want to have like the locals have. So while I might visit some tourist attractions, I dont want to stay in tourist hotels or eat at tourist restaurants. Thats lame. I want to do things like the locals do and have that experience.

Some of my favorite trips were spent on the train going all around Europe. It was amazing!

I would spend more than 3k on airfare because I am not flying in coach. Flying is not my thing (I have phobias), and suffering in coach is not happening.

But beyond that, just going to the game and spending time in London, no it wouldnt cost me much. Because like PDX said, if you do your research, its not expensive at all.

Who cares. I'm not going. All you world travelers can go, and do it all for $1500 bucks or so. Fly over, get tickets, eat, get a hotel room, eat. That's cool. I don't travel over seas much, so if I were to do so, my ass ain't landing, spending a night in a hotel, going to a game, and getting my ass on a plane back.

Agreed. By far, THE best holiday we ever had was in the Dominican Republic...totally off the grid, in a local town, taking the local buses, motorbikes and hanging out eating and swimming with the locals. Superb!

I would never, nor could I ever, travel to another country and choose to stay at some big resort where the only bit of local culture is your bartender or room cleaner. I totally do not understand the draw of that choice of holiday.

So, I took my son to Cleveland in Dec. 2014....we flew to Denver then to CLE. Left early on a Friday, flew back on Monday morning. Stayed at the Hampton Inn right in downtown and hotel airport on Sunday night for super early flight. Went to the R&R HoF, ate at a couple pubs for dinner/lunch. Game tickets were bought from a season ticket holder who is a friend so were face value. All in all....with flights/accommodation/tickets/food/R&R HoF/Browns Fan Store...we spent approx. $1,500 that weekend. Maybe a bit more? I am sure I could have got it cheaper and we could have stayed at friends but, we were there such a short amount of time it seemed easiest to just stay in downtown. But, we had a great time together and I had sold some artwork to help fund the trip...so, it was a treat.

I know you live in Cleveland but, my point is....travel in the interior US is actually really expensive! Far more expensive than it is to travel around Europe (once you are there).

My favorite trip was my first trip to Europe. It was to Germany and it was scary because I was going by myself and had no idea what to expect. I was going to meet up with my girlfriend, but would have to land and travel to the town and find the hotel by myself. Intimidating!

We stayed in this little german town called Aachen. We were there to attend this famous horse show. We walked everywhere through this town. I remeber walking down this road, and we went around the bend and there was this ancient church. Turns out it was built by Charlemagne. So we went inside and looked around. It was amazing. There was no one there. Just our little side adventure.

I love stuff like that.

Rome is like that....crazy, dirty, manic and busy in the city center. Mopeds and little cars zipping around, people smoking, noisy and chaotic and as you walk down the street in between the overgrown weeds on a tiny bend in the corner of a street, surrounded by cigarette butts or a bit of litter blowing in the wind as a moped races past...there is a Michelangelo sculpture! Or, inside the tiny church that looks humble on the outside is a masterpiece fresco by Massachio.

And then, off the beaten path, down the alley leads to a local square that the bulk of the tourists may not know about....coffee, wine, bells, singing, fountains, glamorous & well dressed Italians (smoking), food etc. etc.

Have at it and go to London. I, apparently, according to others, have no clue what it would cost.

Hell, $599 for a ticket. And bam, you're there. No connecting flights, no drive time, no taxi's, no taxes, no hotels, just flight, and tickets.

And for me, a week off work. With no pay. (and when I take a week off work and factor expenses in, I do count missing a week of work as an expense)

London is a great place to visit, but I wouldn't even attend a Cleveland game in general right now. That's not a bad price with all things considered however.

I'd like to go to see London (if I could).

But not to see the Browns.

The most fun I have at Browns games is partying with fellow Browns fans and immersing myself in the whole "Cleveland culture".

Just a great area. Great people.

I really should consider the logistics of heading back there to live.

I would recommend that anyone that goes over to eat a London curry while there. When I went for my daughter's wedding, we took her and his family out to dinner one night for curry. We went to the local Indian restaurant in Thedon Bois (north of London), and it cost us a little over £400. Best meal I've ever had in my life.

I would totally second this recommendation. Curry in the UK is a bit like Mexican here in the US...it is THE ethnic food of choice and there are some great restaurants. Definitely my #1 dish and on my birthday we often go for a curry. However, curry in Portland is nowhere near as good nor as authentic as curry in the UK.

I have to ask, however....400 quid? How many were in your party? Usually curry is a cheap but filling night out.

Norwegian Air is one of the best airlines to get to Europe. I booked my flights through them, when I go to Europe this summer. I think the flights alone ended up being a shade under 450 round trip.
