Republicans to kill U.S. rules on corruption, environment, labor and guns next week https://www.yahoo.com/news/republicans-k...--business.htmlWASHINGTON (Reuters) - Congressional Republicans are set to overturn a slew of Obama-era regulations next week, including a controversial anti-bribery rule aimed at U.S. resource companies such as Exxon Mobil Corp and Chevron Corp , according to a top lawmaker. After six years of legal battles, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in June approved the rule requiring companies to disclose payments to foreign governments. It will probably be killed swiftly with two simple congressional votes. Other rules eyed for quick overturning by Congress include newly minted environmental, gun control and labor relations measures, sources said. Under the Congressional Review Act, Congress can use simple majority votes to stop recent regulations in their tracks. The timing in the law means that any rules that became final after May 31 could go on the chopping block. House of Representatives Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, the second-most powerful Republican in the chamber, had said he would start using that law quickly after President Donald Trump was inaugurated to help roll back regulations the party considers abusive. House Republicans have been on a blitz of regulatory reform, passing bills to drive down regulations' costs and create more congressional oversight. The Republican-dominated House will bypass the committee process and go directly to a vote by the entire chamber on a half-dozen resolutions, McCarthy's spokesman said on Wednesday. Further rule reversals are likely to come out of various committees, Representative Greg Walden, a Republican from Oregon, said on Tuesday. Given the resolutions only require simple majorities to pass, they will probably sail through the House and then pass the Senate, where Democrats, the minority party, cannot mount a filibuster against them. They could then zoom to the White House for fellow Republican Trump to sign. But Walden also said the Congressional Review Act broadly wipes out entire regulations and forbids agencies from writing new versions in their place. That could be dangerous for a rule with some provisions that Republicans support, he said. Earlier this month, McCarthy said the House would try to kill regulations protecting streams and forests from coal mining's impacts, curbing methane leaks on public lands, and requiring employers to report workers' information as part of an attempt to end pay discrimination. Reforming regulations is as high a priority as undoing the Affordable Care Act and rewriting the tax code, he said. In a Wall Street Journal opinion piece on Wednesday, he also added a rule expanding background checks on gun purchases for disabled Social Security recipients to the hit list, as well as the anti-bribery regulation. Requiring companies to state publicly how much they pay governments in taxes, royalties and other types of fees for exploration and extraction was included in the 2010 Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform law. Regulators struggled for years to make it a reality as the companies said it would drive up their costs. Human rights group Oxfam in 2014 sued the SEC when it stalled on drafting the rule, and in 2015 a federal judge ordered the commission to fast-track it. The commission met the judge's deadline this summer, with the requirements set to take effect in 2018. (Editing by Linda Stern and Lisa Von Ahn)

I don't see the necessity of getting rid of any of these. Still waiting for him to get to the lending regulations as I'm trying to get back into real estate investing.

So what do you do about a place like Chicago? Some neighborhoods are like a war zone. That is meant literally by the way-- Chicago had more murders than the Iraq war had U.S. combat deaths during the same period, hard to believe but it is true.
To tell you the truth, I don't like either option. I hate the idea of what is happening in a place like that (and similar places) and I also hate the authoritarian idea of 'sending in the feds'. What do you do about groups of people who go around terrorizing our own citizens, when local politicians are unable or unwilling to do much about it?
Liberals like to throw around the word 'privilege' in the most ridiculous of contexts. One way I actually did have a great privilege is that I never felt unsafe in my neighborhood or at school. Any loud bangs figured to be fireworks, not gunshots. I probably witnessed about 1 fight per year in high school and none of them went beyond fist fighting.
It is possible to create communities like that, you know. Endless back and forth violence is not a foregone conclusion. Trump should go there....sit down with the Mayor and discuss how best to deal with it. The crime wont go away with Feds there. There already are Feds there and they have been there for a while, apparently. The ATF, FBI etc. have been working with Chicago PD. The area where the majority of the violent crime is suffers from decades of poverty and bleak urban blight. It needs investment, education and jobs. If those neighborhoods were not such a dead end, forgotten place with little hope or opportunity the crime wouldn't be as bad as it is.

America is going to return to its faivorite past time: Screwing over native Americans. Apparently the wall is going to be built over their territory. I'm sure they'd love that.

And no sign of a Supreme Court nominee yet? Priorities I guess.

And no sign of a Supreme Court nominee yet? Priorities I guess. What scares me is the pattern I see developing. Everything seems to be nixing any and all laws that may stop business and Industry from running amok. The pipeline, stopping all federal agencies from speaking to the press or even congress. This thing with the FDA today really bothered me. They are charged with (among other things) protecting our food supply. Not sure if he is just killing these protections off or if it's some kind of reset where he'll come back with something else to replace them. I'm pretty sure that the Oil and Gas industry is dancing in the streets.

Let Trump do it, let him go extreme to the right. Not sure I have much of a choice.. None of us do. Sometimes I think there were just a few reasons to vote for him. First being that he wasn't Obama, second being he wasn't Clinton. Then the Wall and deporting aliens. I get a kick out of the wall thing. Back when Reagan and the First Bush were president, hundreds of thousands of Mexicans came across the border illegally. It's not like that today. Not even close, but he hit a note with some folks about a wall and that's that. Whatever, like I said, I can't do anything about it. My vote didn't counts anyway.

The other side of that is If Obama wasn't Heck bent on shoving all of these mandates down our throats, Then their would be no need to do what Trump is doing. I think we all can see that.

You just don't replace the State Departments entire senior level management team easily. And then there's that hiring freeze Trump implemented that will have to be bent to the max. But the newly created Alt News Network will have them all fired I'm sure. Still the transition is going to be a bit tougher. I wish them the best. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/josh...m=.7023cfc4d01a

No whining here. Just showing what happens when one Pres. does something and then when a different Pres. comes along some People are surprised by the actions. Don't know why. These are different People, Thats why he was elected to get things working right.

Just showing what happens when one Pres. does something and then when a different Pres. comes along It happens every 4 or 8 years. Stop whining and deal with it.

Which brings up another point. I seem to remember Obamas mandates being called illegal, but now Trumps are hailed as saving America Anyway, Obama didn't mandate the FDA to do much of anything that it wasn't already doing. There are other examples but neither of us want to make this a peeing contest. Ok,, I can't, I have to say this. If the Republicans were more willing to work with Democrats, most of this nonsense could have been avoided. Give and Take was tossed out the window. Hell, we had it back when Clinton was president.... but not with Obama. Not sure why!

Not sure why went out the window when Obama told congress it did not matter what they thought of his tactics that he would get around them with mandates. His being bull-headed with congress is why Trump has to do what he is doing.

So apparently Donald trump is refusing to give up his unsecured smartphone. Well how is going to check to see if Rosie O'Donnell says something about him at 3am? I mean he has to be ready to tweet an insult at any body at any moment. Bigly important matters of this magnitude need addressed in a hurry. Of course he needs his own phone.

'Trump wants 20 percent import tax to pay for Mexico wall'http://nypost.com/2017/01/26/trump-wants-20-percent-import-tax-to-pay-for-mexico-wall/By Associated Press January 26, 2017 | 3:42pm President Donald Trump wants to pay for his proposed southern border wall by slapping a 20 percent tax on imports from Mexico. White House spokesman Sean Spicer says Trump has discussed the idea with congressional leaders and wants to include the measure in a comprehensive tax reform package. Spicer spoke to reporters on Air Force One as Trump flew back from a Republican retreat in Philadelphia. He says that taxing imports from Mexico would generate $10 billion a year and “easily pay for the wall.” Spicer says discussions are continuing with lawmakers to make sure the plan is “done right.” But he says it “clearly provides funding” for the wall.

still waiting on how Trump plans on having mexico pay for the wall. He has no plan other than to pass the cost onto us while he and his construction company cronies make money building a wall that'll be tunneled under. Until he proves me wrong, I'm right. So far his 'plan' is for us to pay for it then be 'reimbursed' by having our store shelves be filled with higher priced goods.

One thing I never understood about conservatives.
Why so much hostility to a country that shares our borders, but opwant to play nice with a war criminal in Putin?
One would think that having a great relationship with our southern neighbor would be a priority.
I don't understand it. I have theories as to why, but I don't want to come off as race baiting.

I don't understand it. I have theories as to why, but I don't want to come off as race baiting. It's because some don't understand why America is a super power. A MAJOR reason why is because we don't have any enemies within close proximity to us and we have a giant freaking ocean separating us from them on both sides.

Well, we're about to make an enemy real quick.
All well. If this is conservatives agenda, then I guess we better beef up the military after all.
So a bunch of diplomats just resigned. I'm going to drop a resume. I mean if Trump is qualified to be president, and Carson is qualified to be a housing director, then I'm more than qualified to be a diplomat.
