That said, I am on board with filling some holes. If the draft is mostly BPA, free agency is where you target needs.

A tier 2 FA I really like is MLB A J Kline from Carolina. Primary back up to Kuechly, with 23 starts in 4 yrs. 6-1, 240 lbs & 25 yrs. old. Excellent tackler, who can blitz, VG speed & good in coverage. A more complete LB than D Davis & 3 yrs. younger.

Can't say I know anything about him, but he is the type of player I see us targeting in FA.

http://brownswire.usatoday.com/2017/02/06/thomas-expects-browns-to-sign-3-or-4-big-time-free-agents/At the end of the article it says let the speculation begin. Who do you think these 3 to 4 free agents will be? Here are mine favorites. 1) Trumaine Johnson CB LA Rams. Big Corner with a high ceiling even though he has yet to live up to all of his hype. While not an elite shutdown corner pairing him with Joe Haden and moving young players like Jamar Taylor and Boddy Calhaun to nickle and dime roles would solidify the corner position. Finally, would give us the tandem corners they were looking for when they drafted the bust Justin Gilbert. 2) TJ McDonald SS LA Rams. Another Rams player that Gregg Williams will use to impliment his defense to the rest of the team. McDonald also fills a huge need due to the fact that the Browns safety play last season was a disaster. By bringing him in to solidify the position young players like Ibraheim Campbell and Derrick Kindred could learn from him. 3) Kevin Zeitler OG Cincinnati Bengals. He is one of the best young interior lineman in football. Would really help solidify the right side of the line where the Browns will line up a young RT. Having an experienced productive RG next to them would be a huge asset in their growth. With John Greco's injury a new right guard may be needed. If Greco can come back he could slide over to Center. 4) Jermaine Gresham TE Arizona Cardinals. Is Familiar with Hue Jackson's offense from his days in Cincinnati and would provide good depth for Gary Barnidge. Has disappointing the last few seasons but has more upside than the other young tight ends on the Browns roster.

I would not expect us to be super active in Free Agency.
I think that we will plug perhaps a large hole or two, maybe three, to set us up for the draft, but I do not see us going on some insane spending spree. We will still be building through the draft; the only reason I think we will spend what we will is that they will be feeling pressure to dramatically improve on 1-15.

I have zero interest in McDonald or Gresham but zeitler and johnson are my top 2 targets. Mc is not any better than what we should have from kindred with an off-season to progress. Gresham just takes snaps from young TE'S that we need to get reps for when Gary leaves after next season. We need to draft another TE not sign one so in 18 well have a 3rd guy to compete with telfer and devalue.

Trumane Johnson would give us some size and length at corner.
I like McDonald, not only is he familiar he's a big box safety, which we really don't have.
I'd go with JC Tretter instead of Zeitler only cause I don't see a pressing need at guard.
Some others I'd look at are: Rex Burkhead-He's familiar with Hue Glennon-we need a QB, I think he's performed ok when given the chance. Cordarrelle Patterson-I know he hasn't performed great as a WR but I really like him as a returner/3rd or 4th WR Luke Wilson-I think he's got a ton of talent just hasn't had the opportunity. Seattle didn't even know how to use Graham. Kyle Juszczyk-Star at FB Datone Jones-Versatile, could see him playing either DE and inside on passing downs/3 technique Dominique Easley-He's familiar with Williams

T.J. McDonald will probably be suspended for a portion of the 2017 season (probably two games). He recently pled guilty to reckless driving involving drugs or alcohol. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...ugs-or-alcohol/

I always like Gresham at TE...think he is, is a monster of a blocker compared to our TEs...that can come in handy...he is also the only TE in the NFL since 2010 to not have a single drop in the red zone...he's active and aims to knock people's lids off...and he's not expensive I remember wanting him a couple years ago when I wanted Zimmer as a HC...
Kyle Juszcyk (sp?) Has always killed us when playing us...I know he has several TDS against us...still not sure what Hue wants here as a FB...but love this guy

I like Juszyck as well. Liked him out of college. Not sure we're in the market for a FB/HB

Not sure where to ask this but anyone heard the latest on Josh Gordon since his stint into rehab? He is a Restricted FA with the Browns now, right?

The longest rookie contract in the history of the NFL. He may be eligible for AARP before he is eligible for a 2nd contract.

There was an article posted on 24/7 sports that showed him doing some workouts. It was the only thing I had seen of him since he went to rehab.

I found a article about about Gordon and his workout video that says he will be a unrestricted free agent in March. I thought since he was suspended over half his career he would still have more time on his contract. They are either assuming we release him, or just don't understand how contracts work.
He's not even in the NFL right now. Still needs reinstatement.

He's not even in the NFL right now. Still needs reinstatement. He would have been in the last year of his rookie contract, last year, being that he was never reinstated I would assume that he has a year left onnhis contract with the Browns? He was listed on the roster the last time I looked too.

It's my understanding that because he was not on the roster for the last game of the 2015 season he did not get an accrued season towards his free agency.

I for one am hoping Gordon finally has his life together and is ready to play some football...cuz if he does have his life togther, that would be a need filled.
He showed in preseason that he is still damn good, I thought.
I bet you're wondering the samething I did, why O' why didn't I take the...blue pill

He was listed on the roster the last time I looked too. It's my understanding that because he was not on the roster for the last game of the 2015 season he did not get an accrued season towards his free agency. In order for a player to accrue a season, he has to be on the roster for 10 games in a season. If he is on the roster, or on IR, then it counts as a season. Gordon was suspended for the 1st 10 games, which would have allowed him to accrue a season, but he was then suspended for the final game of the season by the Browns. He appealed, but given that he wound up being suspended again last year, his appeal is unlikely to succeed. Regardless, I cannot image that the Browns take a big risk on him ever again. I suspect that once he is reinstated, he will either be cut, or kept through camp, hoping he looks good, in order to try to entice another team, and find a trade partner. I do not see him every being on the regular season roster in Cleveland ever again/

Which means what to us? Specifically, can he be traded? Get Cruz. And do any of his numbers hold? Or is this a new contract required for this mess?

It sounds like he might be an erfa, as he never accrued three seasons in the NFL...

It sounds like he might be an erfa, as he never accrued three seasons in the NFL... If Gordon would have played at least ten games in 2016, he would have been a restricted free agent. He played zero games. That means he is still on his rookie contract and when/if he ever plays games again will have one more year left on his rookie contract. After that season he will become a restricted free agent. This is all a moot point as he's probably never going to play a game for us (or anyone else again).

Gordon, AGAIN, he "haunts" us, yes he has talent, yes he would fill a hole....BUT, Jackson says he's OVER him, thank God...so Gordon has a video out, who cares, is he going to sell cars again....is he paying his child support...please, forget him, wish he'd never played a game for us....HAUNTS..
Possible reality, Ingram,Chargers-edge; Leary,Dallas,G- slide Greco to Center, and go after Jefferson,Cards,S...those guys would be J Thomas's dream pickups.
Erving can try to make it as a Tackle, he stinks at center...GO Browns
