Sashi & Co fleeced the Mastermind for the best player in football and got a 5th for Mingo...then signed the best player in football to a team-friendly deal.

How awesome would it be if Hightower came HERE in FA?

I think with all experiencing our team and know exactly what is now needed to move forward. We will make a mark in FA. And this draft being so deep with talent specifically on the D.

There is a good chance the Browns go from Rags to Riches FINALLY!

Also I think this is the most respect we got for our HC from the Sports Media to all players...we will not find it difficult to garnish the FA's we want!

Best player in football? lol

Exaggerate much?

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I was trying to quote Hightower...who actually said this:

"Dont'a Hightower told reporters Monday night that Collins was his favorite player in the NFL..."

So I missed that a little or a lot - depending on the purple part. In any event, we got a darn good football player for very little and signed him to a good contract.

Kudos to Sashi & Co.

Jamie Collins contract

It's pretty team friendly.
We are married to him for two years, but only $2.5 mil in dead money in year 3 and only $1.25 mil in dead money in year 4 if he doesn't work out.

I thought that the 2018 salary was only guaranteed if he's on the roster on the 3rd day of the 2018 league year. If that is the case, we can cut him between the end of the season and the 2nd day of the 2018 league year with only prorated signing bonus ($3.75m) being dead money. Heaven forbd, of course.

Quote:
The Patriots trade of star linebacker Jamie Collins was the turning point to their defense. Collins, who was prone to freelancing and missing his assignments, was headed to the Cleveland Browns for a conditional third-round pick, while the Patriots unified inside their locker room.

The trade of Collins -- one of their most athletic players -- was mostly kept under wraps. But they did plenty of due diligence and shopping beforehand.

The trade came on a Monday, but on the prior Thursday and Friday, the Patriots called teams like the Eagles, Texans and more. Many scenarios were discussed, sources say.

The two juiciest: The Patriots asked for frustrated receiver DeAndre Hopkins in a potential trade for Collins -- offensive building block in need of an extension for defensive building block in need of an extension. That was a non-starter for the Texans, even with Hopkins battling uneven quarterback play.

The other offer the Patriots spent weeks researching: Veteran cornerback Johnathan Joseph for Collins. New England loves him. Though intriguing, Joseph is so valuable to Houston that the team would not part with him.

In the end, Collins ended up with a 4-year, $50-milion extension while the Patriots wound up in Super Bowl after going 7-1 in the regular season sans the linebacker.

They make it sound like the Pats improved greatly after they traded Collins yet they fail to mention the fact that they went 7-1 with him or that the Pats played one of the easiest second half schedules in the league against some of the worst offenses.

The way I've always read that situation is that it wasn't so much Collins was a massive liability, it was that he wasn't playing within the system BB wanted him to.

I thought "BS" when I read that, but then I checked the Pats team stats with and without Collins. Its true they went 7-1 with him in the first half, and 7-1 without him in the second half. Its also true they played 4 games without Brady in the first half, so its probably fair to assume that opponents had more opportunities (time of poss.) in closer games. But the stats show that they gave up 354 yards per game and 16.5 points per game with Collins, and in the second half of the season they averaged giving up 299 ypg and 14.8 ppg. Strength of schedule wasn't something I looked at, so could be a factor. Other defensive injuries could have been a factor too.

The first half of the season they played some decent offensive teams in Arizona (6th offensively), Pitt (10th), and Buffalo (11th twice), the second half of the season they played the bottom feeders Niners (27th), Jets (30th twice), and the Rams (32nd). The Pats didn't face a team the second half of the season whose offense ranked higher then 17th (Miami). SOS for the Pats 1st half of the season was .460 their 2nd half of the season it was .417.
