#Patriots will look to extend QB Tom Brady next offseason, source says. Clear indication they believe his proclamation to play into his 40s.

I think I'd rather go get AJ McCarron at a much cheaper price tag. I'm not sure he's a franchise QB but I'm not sure Jimmy G is either. I think he can perform well enough for the Browns to at least be talking about the playoffs late in the year, with a good running game and better then good defense helping him. lets fix those and get McCarron.

I can't imagine Cincy trading him to us for anything near what we'd be willing to pay. If they do trade him, it'll be to one of the other losers of the JG sweepstakes.

Based on what Ian Rapaport reported...
Quote:
Before Patriots traded Jamie Collins to the Browns, they targeted a blockbuster: Hopkins for Collins. Good effort

I would not be shocked Cleveland trades Terrelle Pryor and maybe a high mid round pick or two to New England for Garoppolo. Sign Cordarrelle Patterson, Kenny Stills, or Alshon Jeffery or maybe with their 12 pick, draft either Mike Williams or O. J. Howard.

Reasoning behind trading Pryor and signing a FA receiver is adding experience and keeping draft picks.

Personally I like seeing Cleveland draft Myles Garrett and Takkarist McKinley in the first and in the the second Obi Melifonwu and Chris Wormley. Gregg Williams can pretty much play any front seven formation possible.

One other FA signing Trumaine Johnson.

Or take a good long look at Kirk Cousins, see what it will take to go get him.

I like the thiking except I don't know how we could trade him since we will be a free agent.

I like the thought of OJ Howard on the team.

Despite what is being said in national media the sentiment I've been voicing in this forum is that Kirk Cousins will not be available.

This is on the record direct from the team president:

During an appearance on Sirius XM NFL Radio, Allen was asked if one could say it is a “10” on a scale of 1-10 that Cousins will be in Washington next season. Allen said you could “go ahead” and mark it that way.

“Yeah. Kirk is our quarterback,” Allen said. “He’s played well the last two years. I know there’s other speculation, but it doesn’t come from the Redskins.”

--------------------------------
When you read unsourced reports about Kirk Cousins from "insiders" remember this actual on the record, sourced direct quote from the team president.

It is my understanding contracts don't expire until March. I think teams can sign their own up to. If so, Browns sign and trade.

It seems Browns and Patriots are working together. My thinking there is a little rapport happening between the two. Naturally I can't prove it is strictly my opinion.

This off season I am watching closely these two teams. I don't know why I simply think there is a unspoken partnership forming here.

Am I the minority here thinking that Romo would elevate our offense?

You are right about March 1st. Just doesn't seem like enough time to get it done IMO. The Pats are still playing.

Plus, the Pats want as much as they can get. They have JG through next season, so they aren't in any hurry.

This discussion is going down a path that is unanswerable. There are so many factors and variables.

Every team in the top 12 all have many needs. The teams in the market for quarterbacks like the Browns, 49's, Jets, Buffalo, Bears also have needs at other positions.

Each team has different people involved in the decision process.

The Browns and the others have to measure need and value.
Just like all the discussion on this Board about picking Garrett, Allen, quarterback, etc. BPA versus need.

Beauty in the eye of the beholder. Each team will weigh and measure.

Way to hard to speculate how they view draft prospects (non-qb), Garoppolo, draft (qb)prospects.

I don't think there is a question about his abilities. His age and injury history, however, are major issues. As a place holder/backup, possibly. As the answer to our QB problem, not so much.

He would, but there is a 0% chance he would sign with our team.

He might be cheaper, but that is because he isn't nearly as good of a qb as Jimmy G.

The Browns have an opportunity to obtain a quality qb. I hope they do it.

I'm sorry. I was too definitive. I will correct my statement:

Romo would make our offense better for sure, but he would only sign with us if we also signed every single good free agent and traded for multiple All-Pros. It would also probably help if we got a new owner who established a track record of reliability before we sign Romo so he knows he's going into a stable environment.

(You know those 37 year olds who are ring chasing always want to play on a roster full of rookies and second year players, right?)
