Very smart move. They can pay this guy a (relatively) little bit of money to have loyalty to the team and get the straight dope before deciding on offering big real (and cap) bucks to Taylor.

Browns hire David Lee as quarterbacks coach The Browns’ search for a new quarterbacks coach has come to an end. Tight ends coach Greg Seamon handled the quarterbacks when the staff was at the Senior Bowl and there was a reported interview with Jeff Garcia, but the Browns ultimately moved in a different direction. Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports that the team has hired David Lee to fill that role on Hue Jackson’s staff. Lee was on the Bills staff in the same position for the last two years and spent two years with Rex Ryan working for the Jets the two years before that. He also helped popularize the Wildcat in the NFL with the Dolphins in 2008 and has been a college head coach and offensive coordinator over a four-decade coaching career. Lee worked with Tyrod Taylor in Buffalo and there’s a chance that Taylor will be available on the open market, a development that would likely be of interest to a Browns team in need of an answer at quarterback. Whether Taylor is a consideration or not, Lee will almost certainly be working with a new arrival to Cleveland as the Browns are unlikely to head into next season with Robert Griffin III and Cody Kessler as their only options. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/02/08/browns-hire-david-lee-as-quarterbacks-coach/
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

he has made a little something out of a lot of nothings. Seems to be a good hire. Honestly feel he was an upgrade to Pep anyway.

Does this mean we are odds on favorite to sign Tyrod if he becomes available?
I haven't seen enough to judge - but I just don't want a scrambling QB. If someone has some breakdown or analysis, maybe that's where we should be putting our energy in studying rather than Jimmy!!
The more things change the more they stay the same.

"Hey Seamon, remember that 'promotion'? Nevermind about that."
So I guess he failed the test?
Either way, I am glad we brought someone else on staff to help with the offense.
Here's his Wikipedia page:

Statement from the team: http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/arti...89-c14cb5e02ba7A snippet: On the NFL level, Lee has helped eight quarterbacks surpass the 3,000 passing yard plateau nine times, including Tyrod Taylor (3,023 in 2016 and 3,025 in 2015), Geno Smith (3,046 in 2014), Ryan Fitzpatrick (3,400 in 2012), Chad Henne (3,301 in 2010), Chad Pennington (3,653 in 2008), Drew Bledsoe (3,639 in 2005), Vinny Testaverde (3,532 in 2004) and Quincy Carter (3,302 in 2003). In 2008 with the Jets, Lee helped Pennington earn AFC Comeback Player of the Year, while finishing runner up for NFL MVP to Peyton Manning. I must've been asleep for all of 2008. Chad Pennington was second in MVP voting that year. Nuts. (He had 19 TDs and 7 INTs.)

I don't think I'd consider Taylor a "scrambling" QB.
I didn't watch much of the Bills, but I always assumed he was slightly undersized height wise, but mostly was a pocket passer that had the ability to move around if need be.
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

Taylor has wheels, but he doesn't use them like RG3.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Smart move, if this gives us a leg up to land Tyrod then cool. I like TTaylor, if we were to sign him that gives us tons of flexibility going into the draft. Seems like Lee is a quality coach after reviewing his resume.

I'm totally fine with A QB roster of Taylor, Kessler, and a developmental Rookie.
It's not trading for Jimmy G.
But for the next 3 years I think we'd be "fine" with Taylor. I guess.
Maybe he's our 2008 Dolphins version of Chad Pennington...

If the Browns sign Tyrod Taylor, I think it means they're going Watson with #1. Taylor and Watson are of a type; both gifted throwers who can run. Taylor provides a perfect bridge QB for a couple years while Watson gets prepared to take over, allowing you to develop a franchise guy while still being capable of winning 8-9, maybe even 10 games in a "perfect storm" type of season.

I think it means the exact opposite. No QB high at all. But the team around the defense and running. You can't take a QB #1 overall and expect him to sit anymore, the first years of his contract are too valuable to waste on the bench. Tyrod Taylor is very Andy Daltonish. You can win games with him, but he will not win you games. I would be all for signing Taylor so that we don't have to trade for Garoppolo. Side note: The Bills have to decide what to do with Taylor before the 11th. The new league year starts the 9th (I think). That gives the Patriots two days with the maximum number of bidders to try and trade Garoppolo.

blah, just blah. I'd rather let cody or rg3 play than make a horizontal pickup and wait for them to pick the system up. blah and no thanks.

Experienced hire.
Should have nothing to do with Taylor just some good inside info if we need more. Plenty of film so Hue should already know what he's about.
Taylor is what 8 years. 6 years???
Kessler in his 5th year or more will be how good?
Tough to say Taylor is better for our future or not.
Starting in 2017 honestly I hope neither stars for us.

Taylor is not the answer .... if Hue thinks he is ... Hue is not the answer either ....
I'd be shocked if this was anything more than Hue hiring who he believes is a good QB coach and can groom Cody and whoever else ends up here this year and possibly over the next 2 years ..
If the Jill's let Taylor go there won't be more than a handful of dissapointed fans in Upstate NY ... he is way way way to INCONSISTENT .... although he is a very very good athelete and has well above average wheels ... he is not like RG3 ... he stays in the pocket a lot longer and gives the pass more time before taking off ...

He has a varied background, giving him lots of experience, as QB coach, OC, HC at the college level, and QB coach at the pro level for more than a few years. As a former QB at Vandy, he understands the position, and being a Vandy Grad, he has a good head on his shoulders. I like the hire.

Good hire. If Tyrod is in the mix, this guy can sell it, and, if not, he will be trying to work some magic for a newbie. Between Lee and Hue, the QB's should improve IMO. Decent hire that I find interesting.

It seems to me that the price for Garoppolo will be highest when the Patriots have multiple teams bidding for him. Once one team drops off, because they got a QB, it lowers the price for Garoppolo. Supply and demand.

Actually you can make the opposite argument as well
4 QBS and 5 teams you have 80% chance
Takeout one
3 QBS and 4 teams you have a 75% chance

3 QBS and 4 teams you have a 75% chance I think this is in reply to me. I wasn't referring to a team's chances at getting Garoppolo, just to the price of acquiring him.

J/k I don't think the David Lee hire means they are looking to bring in Tyrod.
They needed a QB coach.
And I bet Lee will be the defacto "offensive coordinator" but not playcaller.

A 3000 yard season comes out to less than 200 yards passing a game....not something I'd exactly show off. Might as well saying "New QB coach David Lee excels at getting somewhat average performances out of his quarterbacks." Blah.

Maybe they're expecting him to get average performances from less than average QB's like he's done in the past? After all, none of our QB's have even been average. Much like the ones he's coached.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

U know Pitt .. it amazes me how inept we've been at finding a QB ... its been 17 years ... and we've had what ... 3/4's of a season of "good" ply from DA .. and thats it in 17 years ... if i wasn't a fan and didn't experience it .. i wouldn't believe it .. you'd think that would be mathematically impossible ... i guess its just another reason why STATS ARE FOR LOSERS!!! .... *LOL* ...

Well the Couch years hurt as he got damaged or sucked depending who you talk to.
But the point is he was here. for a while. The we did the FA thing 04 hurt us the most as we committed to Garcia and passed on Big Ben.
We didn't really invested in the draft till BQ and I blame that on you...lol
Then the what history tells us was the 2nd and 3rd #22 overall pick of our QBs all three coming with our 2nd pick of the first round. Which means we really didn't believe him to be our Franchise QB. Of course the 3rd was the little Drunk. But our Timing just SUCKED. We get low at #5 and its Sanchez who is available. We were low in 05 and we took BE instead of Rodgers. Cause we actually thought we had our Franchise QB.
Bad timing and bad judgment. We really hadn't made a low investment since Couch.
jmh...smh
