I am trying to take my heart of of it, but I can't see this as anything but immature.....

They are drafting 28th....even if we wanted Romo, it would take 3 first round picks to get from 28 to 1. This was clearly not thought out well.

He just went too far.. should have said something like, "I've always been a Cowboys fan and would love to play for them but I'll play where I get picked." and left it at that. Challenging Jerry to move up and take him was going too far.

People usually don't want to see the context. They just want to take a quote and run with it.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Mark Podolski: Don’t blame Myles Garrett for not wanting to play for Cleveland Browns, blame the team

By Mark Podolski, The News-Herald
POSTED: 02/12/17, 5:29 PM EST | UPDATED: 4 HRS AGO
link

Browns fans, this can’t be a surprise.

A player — in this case the No. 1 NFL Draft prospect — basically saying it without saying it that he would rather play somewhere else than Cleveland.

If you missed it, on Feb. 10, Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett posted a video that went viral pleading to the Dallas Cowboys, who pick 28th overall, to trade for the Browns’ No. 1 overall spot.

It’s a pipe dream on Garrett’s part, but a kid can dream.

Garrett asked the Cowboys to throw in 36-year-old quarterback Tony Romo to sweeten the deal.

Another pipe dream.

“Just make it happen,” said Garrett in the video.

He later posted another video saying he would be excited to play for the Browns, too. Nice try. I’m sure a handler of Garrett had him clean up the situation by posting the second video, but the damage had been done.

It wasn’t a great look for Garrett, but it shouldn’t be a surprise. Garrett grew up in the Dallas area, and given the choice, most players in America would rather play for the Cowboys than the Browns, who have had one playoff season since 1999.

>> Photo gallery of Myles Garrett from the 2016 season

Given the choice, the list of teams players would prefer over the Browns is impossible to predict without a poll or reading minds, but let’s have some fun.

How about we go out on a limb with this one? Playing for the current Browns can’t be the ultimate dream.

Team’s fortunes in the NFL change from year to year. Losing teams become winners. Winning teams become losers.

The Browns pretty much stay the same — a team that can’t seem to get out of its own way.

Another comes to mind, the Jacksonville Jaguars. With the Jaguars, though, playing in Florida isn’t the worst thing.

North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky of Mentor hasn’t spoken specifically about wanting to be the No. 1 overall pick by the Browns, but did say this about the possibility:

“If that’s what’s about to happen, I think it’s meant to be,” Trubisky told The News-Herald Jan. 9.

The Browns haven’t been consistent winners since the mid 1980s, when quarterback Bernie Kosar of Youngstown was leading the way.

“I know it’s been a long time, and I know the fans are dying to get that back,” said Trubisky. “I know the fans need that back.”

At this point, Browns fans would take a fraction of the ’80s, and consider it a success.

They only want a winner. They deserve one.

Yet since 1999, the second-coming of the Browns has not delivered. There’s been a playoff season in 2002, and one more winning season. That’s it. Since 1999.

Once a proud NFL city, Cleveland has become a wasteland of the league.

It’s not the job of top draft prospects to want to play for the Browns.

It’s up to the team to build a franchise players envy.

Garrett is from the Dallas area. Of course, he wants to stay close to home.

Maybe if the Browns were a team on the rise with a core of promising players ready to emerge, it would be a desired destination stop for some of the league’s top talent.

It’s not.

So don’t blame Garrett or any other player who doesn’t view Cleveland as the place to be in the NFL.

Blame the Browns.

Contact Podolski at MPodolski@News-Herald.com; On Twitter: @mpodo.

When I first heard Garrett's comment about not wanting to play in the cold, I felt he was sending a message of sorts to the Browns...why else would he even bring the subject up, playing in the cold.

Garrett and espn put together a video discussing a Dallas trade with the Browns...I thought to myself, how freaking arrogant is this kid? Does he really think that Browns fans don't know what he is talking about and who the comments are meant for?

Then I asked myself this question...given the history of this franchise over the last 4 or 5 years...if I were Myles Garrett would I want to play for the Browns?

While Garrett's actions were disgusting, I also thought about how low the Browns have fallen. Worst record by the worst managed team with the worst owner in the NFL.

Myles Garrett is not going to fix all that is wrong with the Browns. These owners and their management team don't have a lot of wiggle room when it comes to making more mistakes like the Mitch Schwartz screwup of last year.

I'm not a big Myles Garrett fan because I saw some holes in his game that concern me. If the Browns do draft him, he will have to prove himself to me...and he can begin by growing up a bit and stop the crying over cold weather and playing for the Browns.

I got to the part where you said Garrett needs to prove himself to you, and my eyes literally rolled out of my head..

LOL.....no friggen kidding.....the guy has proven if for 3 years in college....sorry, at this point he can't do any better than that.

He cleared the air. He had no idea that Cleveland was filled with so many Golumba's. I am sure that Burce Smith didn't exactly warm up to going to Buffalo when he was a college stud at VT.

Some picks are easy. This is a easy pick, but no, we have a cast of goofs looking for reasons to not draft him.

To carry on for my buddy Vers, Typical.

Myles Garrett is looking like someone with some serious issues upstairs,

First, you made up a story about Garrett being a lazy player and now you are saying he has mental issues? Seriously? You need to win some stupid board debate so much that you resort to that type of posting?

You later completely ignored the "kidding" aspect that was brought up and continued to attack the guy.

Anyway...........here is an article about Garrett's character and mental make-up, which certainly is polar to your claim that he has "issues above the neck."

Let the people decide who has issues above the neck:

Quote:
Myles Garrett is college football's most interesting superstar
Aug 26, 2016
Sam Khan Jr.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Take a stroll through the playlists of Texas A&M players, and you're likely to find a lot of similarities.

There's a lot of Drake. Future. Jeezy.

Until you reach Myles Garrett's playlist, where the first song is "Sway," by Dean Martin. Scroll further down and you'll notice a trend. Whether it's The Temptations, Earth, Wind & Fire or The Isley Brothers, it's clear that Garrett's taste in music is anything but contemporary.

He doesn't really listen to old-school R&B before a football game, does he?

"Oh yeah," Myles Garrett said. "It gets me comfortable, gets me ready."

It doesn't just stop there. The 2015 Lombardi Award finalist is known best for his on-the-field exploits (24 sacks, 34.5 tackles for loss in his first two seasons and No. 1 on Mel Kiper's first 2017 Big Board), but the junior's off-the-field interests are as unique as his music taste when compared to his peers.

Myles Garrett might be a laid-back guy off the field who loves poetry and old-school R&B, but on the field, he terrorizes quarterbacks. Thomas Shea/USA TODAY Sports

"He's a laid-back dude," said defensive end Daeshon Hall, one of Garrett's closest friends on the team. "Doesn't really do anything except play basketball, listen to old-school music and read books. Sometimes we'll be watching movies and he'll go out in the lobby and read a book. He's a different guy."

Say hello to Myles Garrett, All-SEC defensive end, big-time NFL prospect and the oldest soul in college football.

"He's an old soul in a freak body," Hall joked.

Music

As his playlist indicates, Garrett favors music created before he was born.

"He never liked regular music," said his mother, Audrey Garrett. "He never liked rap. If Sean [Williams, Myles' older brother] turned on some rap, Myles closed his door. ... It was like noise to him. But if you turned on some old-school music, he would sit there bopping his little head."

Myles' favorite artist: Marvin Gaye. His favorite female artist: Anita Baker.

"I grew up with Ray Charles playing in the car all the time or playing in the house," Myles said. "I grew up with Marvin Gaye and sometimes Dean Martin and Frankie. So I turned to everybody else who was in the era. I went to Elvis, Teddy Pendergrass. I kept expanding and it just went from there."

Audrey said they played everything from Ella Fitzgerald to The Gap Band during Myles' childhood. And his interest spans genres. He recently made a request -- which was fulfilled -- for "No One Like You" by The Scorpions to be played at a recent practice.

"He has some variety," Hall said. "He doesn't listen to just all old school. He listens to some hip-hop and rock 'n' roll."

Love songs are Myles' staple, though.

"He loves love songs," Audrey said. "The baby is a romantic at heart."

Social media

These days, everyone seemingly is on social media. Players, coaches, recruits, athletic directors.

Everyone except Myles Garrett.

He once had Twitter and Instagram accounts. Last offseason, when he was sitting at home in Arlington, Texas, he deleted them both. "It's just unnecessary," he told his parents. "There's too much foolishness on there."

He hasn't missed it and hasn't returned. No Snapchat. No Periscope. Nothing.

"I mean just to see how much time is consumed looking down at your phone when you could be reading, becoming better at your own language or learning a new language," Garrett said. "You could be doing so many productive things. You could becoming a better student-athlete. While they're scrolling down and looking through and trying to find something funny or something else, I'm just trying to be the best I can and maximize my potential."

"He goes from kind, sweet, lovable to once that whistle blows, it's like, 'Hey, he's trying to kill everything in the room."
Texas A&M WR Ricky Seals-Jones
Audrey said Myles became annoyed by Twitter users who would hurl insults at him.

"He's not that dude who's going to stand up and do a whole bunch of cussing at you and go back-and-forth," she said. "He always felt that 'My skills will show what I can do. I don't need to run my mouth.' That's just how he's always dealt with it."

Recently, when Audrey found something on her timeline she wanted to show Myles, he told her he didn't want to see it. He doesn't want any outside noise to impact him mentally.

Garrett's teammates aren't ready to go that far.

"I feel like some people are thinking about deleting their social media to get focused," Hall said. "But I like watching videos and stuff, so I'll keep mine."

Audrey acknowledges Myles might have to change that stance once he makes it to the NFL.

"One of the things we have to consider when Myles goes to the next level -- knock on wood -- is that he is going to have to have a social media presence," she said. "We're probably going to have Brea (Myles' older sister) do that component for him. He'd be like more like Barack Obama and when he has something to say, he'll sign it 'MG15' or something."

Books and poetry

Don't expect to catch Garrett binge-watching TV shows on Netflix or playing Pokemon Go. In his downtime, he has a book or a pen in his hand.

"He writes poetry, reads a lot of poetry," receiver Ricky Seals-Jones said. "You go in the locker room in a couple hours and if he's not sleeping, he probably has a book and is reading a book."

On the bedroom wall, Audrey still has a framed poem Myles wrote for her as part of an elementary school project. "He talks about wanting to be a professional football player, he talks about mommy loving him."

He also handwrites letters to people, including his girlfriend, and his penmanship won handwriting contests in grade school.

Myles has made no secret of his interest in dinosaurs. Family members and teammates alike acknowledge that dinosaur-related books dominate his reading list.

"Dinosaur books were always around for birthdays and Christmas," Audrey said. "That's why he knows all their names and can identify them."

After his first Q&A session with local media last year, Garrett gave reporters some "homework": to identify the largest carnivorous dinosaur. (The answer was spinosaurus aegyptiacus. Say that three times fast.)

Favorite players

Ask Garrett who his favorite player is, and the answer you're most likely to hear is also unconventional for someone his age: the late Deacon Jones.

Myles Garrett has had plenty to celebrate during his two years in College Station. Ken Murray/Icon Sportswire
It's fitting. Jones played the position Garrett does (defensive end) and is credited with inventing the term "sack." The NFL Hall of Famer was also known for his "head slap," which was legal in his era but is no longer.

Garrett's interest in players from former eras was sparked by his position coach at Martin High School in Arlington: Anthony Gonzales, now a head coach at Lovington High in New Mexico. "Coach Gonzo," as Garrett and many others call him, was the first to show him clips of Hall of Famer pass-rushers Bruce Smith and Lawrence Taylor.

"[After that], I went to Derrick Thomas and kept on going further back to look at my predecessors, people who came before me who changed the game and how they played," Garrett said. "I know I wanted to be one of those types of players. I watched them and see how they approached the game, how they got off the ball, what kind of workouts they did, how they approach the field every day."

The guy with eclectic music taste and a laid-back demeanor is anything but on the football field, though.

"He's a great guy, but once he puts on those pads, he's a different person," Seals-Jones said. "He goes from kind, sweet, lovable to once that whistle blows, it's like, 'Hey, he's trying to kill everything in the room.' "

Great article. My eyes widened a few times while reading that. He seems like an intelligent guy, detail-attentive: getting a penmanship award shows that IMO.
I can't help but wonder how many 21-year-old black football players from Texas like the Scorpions? smile

Since he wore 15 in college, will he flip it and wear 51 for the Browns?
I'm starting to think I might get his jersey. Been 13 years since I bought a Browns jersey.

I think 45 would look good, if he can.

That article makes him sound like my long lost twin. I love this kid and think he is fantastic as a human being and as a player. I might have to add another jersey beside the one I have for Joe T.

MAN I WANT TO WATCH PRACTICE WHERE JOE IS UP AGAINST MYLES ALL DAY LONG!!!!! THOSE TWO WOULD JUST KEEP MAKING EACH OTHER EVEN MORE ELITE MONSTERS LOL

Let the people decide who has issues above the neck:

Vers...first, find the story you claim I made up about Garrett "being a lazy player".

FIND IT, POST IT..."being a lazy player"

Next, yes, I believe Garrett is exhibiting some very immature behavior, with his comments about playing in the cold then posting a video about a potential Cowboys trade with the Browns, so Myles can play in Texas and not Cleveland.

I posted an Canton article showing that I was not the only one who was a bit concerned about Garrett's behavior.

I'M NOT IN ""LOVE WITH MYLES GARRETT""...and anyone that knows a damn thing about football can see what I'm concerned about watching his 2015 season vs 2016 season.

But I get it with some of you..SOME HAVE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE FOR ANYTHING MYLES GARRETT HAS DONE AND WILL DO IN THE FUTURE.

VERS, PEEN AND THE REST...I GET IT, YOU FOLKS ARE IN LOVE WITH MYLES GARRETT.

But vers...don't start making crap up claiming I said things I did not say.

You and others want to attack me because I refuse to follow the crowd and I'm willing to look at MG's entire game and judge some of his play harshly.

...I DO NOT HAVE A LOVE AFFAIR WITH MG, LIKE SOME OF YOU HAVE.

I know love is said to be blind, I just never thought about fans falling in love with a player and willingly ignore any negatives the individual might have.

So, if people want attack me for my opinion...go for it...but don't freaking lie about what you claim I said..OK?

I am not searching for squat. However, all you have to do is say "I don't believe Myles Garrett is a lazy player" and I won't mention it again.

Btw---------nice detour around your comments about Garrett having issues upstairs. Did you completely ignore the article I posted? Are you going to hang-on to such an absurd claim because you can't admit you are wrong? Or, are you going to retract such a foolhardy statement?

I doubt it will be the latter. LOL

mac, are you going to ignore this:

Quote:
This is not a John Elway/Eli Manning situation. Garrett, the Texas A&M pass rusher who for weeks has been considered the probable top pick in this year’s draft, has no problem with the Cleveland Browns. He said he’d be happy to play for the Browns, and at this moment it seems like a pretty good bet that he’ll be selected first by them (though he won’t be attending the draft in Philadelphia).

So we can put this controversy to rest before it starts. When asked if he’d be OK with playing for the Browns, Garrett replied, “Definitely.”

And this:

mac,

I'm with you, I haven't been 100% on Garrett either, even before the tape came out. I'm not quite as concerned as you are about the recent tape, but see other things on the field and in his production, especially on a game to game basis. Maybe you already answered this but, I am curious who you do like at #1.

LOL

VERS...IF YOU ARE TOO DAMN LAZY TO LOOK IT UP...THEN STOP LYING ABOUT WHAT I DID SAY, OK!

HERE IS WHAT I SAID AND YOU TOOK OFF ON ME CLAIMING I CALLED HIM LAZY...READ THE CONTEXT AND THEN ESPECIALLY THE PART IN RED TYPE...

Someone asked me if I had any idea what Garrett's responsibilities were, playing his position....well, I do have some experience playing OLB...I played the position for 3 years in HS and I know at times Garrett has outside contain responsibility when the play goes the other way..he is only supposed to pursue when he is sure the play is not a reverse or throw back pass or some gadget play. To the average fan, it might look like he is being lazy or just standing around, but that is not the case..he is doing his job. I recognize that Garrett is doing his job by staying home and not pursuing.

Garrett's responsibilities change depending on where he is lined up. Sometimes he had DE responsibilities and other times he had OLB responsibility.

Now you can see how off base you were...

The comment about "upstairs"...if you follow what I have been saying about Garrett, I have questioned his MATURITY LEVEL.

I view his comments and the video thing as NOT A BIT FUNNY, coming from an arrogant rookie who needs to be taught some manners. YOU DON'T WHINE AND CRY ABOUT WHICH TEAM IS DRAFTING YOU...

Why Garrett thinks it's ok to dis the Browns and the Browns fans, I can't figure out. IMO, Garrett needs to close his pie hole and concentrate on how to pursue a ball carrier.

Now, you have the full context of my comments...NO MORE FREAKING LIES, THANK YOU.

You may have literally never said that he "is lazy"

But you claim he "might be lazy" or "might have issues" over and over and over.

While also saying "I never SAID he was lazy"

It's quite impressive, the balancing act you have on that fence.

But hey, if you just keep making stuff up about Garrett, and repeating it, eventually a few people will read and and believe it's true. So. Good for you.

Mac...if you played and were the top college player in the draft...would you not make a media video plea for the Browns to please somehow move up to #1 and get you?

He then realized that he possibly insulted teams and fans and stated with assurance that he would love to play for the Browns!

Just saying. Stop being so picky on the kid and think about it.

wink

Garretts video to dallas sting a bit. Then you realize hey if I could play for the Browns i'd ask for it too. It's really not a big deal. Nothing wrong with the guy wanting to play for his hometown team if its possible. It's not personal against the Browns. He would have made that request no matter who was drafting first.

I would listen to my agent and legal team as this video was very unlikely to be endorsed or supported by them. At least he realized it may have some across as a bad look, though I am sure his agent or agent's representative gave him a head's up.

You say that now, with some experience under your belt, or you are just saying that to sound good.

If I was a top prospect at 21 years old, I would be begging the Browns to take me. Be real, man. Since they are football players, someone and some team was their favoite.

I am not talking about some bubble player. They just hope to be drafted. Trust me, Myles Garrett knows he is going to be drafted somewhere in the first seven rounds......no, make that the first 4 rounds.....no, make that the first round.....no, make that the first 2 picks. He can make a plea.

31 other teams hope we blow it and let him slide to #2.

mac, I am not lying about anything. And if you continue w/this tirade, I will report you. I was suspended for calling another poster a liar, even though he really was lying.

mac, I asked you if you would just come out and say that you don't believe Garrett is a lazy player. I said I would stop my commentary if you just come out and say he isn't lazy.

Well mac.............are you willing to say that Garrett is not a lazy player or not?

Here is what I think.............you didn't say those exact words, but you said something that clearly gave us that message. I remember asking you several times to provide just one freaking link that said that Garrett was a lazy player. You never responded. Which of course, many of us know is your motto.

And here's the connection. A few weeks from now I will say something like "mac, you said that Garrett had mental issues." You will call me a liar, just like you are now w/the lazy comments. And technically, you would be correct because what was it you said exactly? Something like Myles Garrett is looking like a player with serious issues upstairs. And then you will once again call me a liar if I say something like you claimed he had mental issues.

mac, I think you are full of crap. Stop slandering players when you have absolutely no evidence that your wild claims are true. And if you don't stop.............don't throw a hissy fit when I call you on your BS!!!!

Seriously, great article on Garrett. Makes me about the most excited I've been about a potential franchise player for us in some time.

Yeah.

We're totally not going to draft him...
