Ramcyzk is the only OL I can first round grade on. I think that he is a top 15 talent and being that he is the only OT that is worthy of a first round selection. I could see him possibly sneak into the top 10.
Yeah I agree...His tape is nice...Considering there really isnt first round O line material he will probably go higher than I expect...specially if his hip checks out healthy.
I'm just not convinced there's a C in free agency that's better than Drango is at RG. Given the lack of drop-off at C though I would like a 5th or 6th type purely to build depth
Count me as one who liked what I saw in Reiter. That said, I am not against drafting a center at some point in the draft.
We are going to get some 4th rounders as comp picks. Maybe use one of those to draft a center. That is the range where you can still grab one of the better center prospects.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
If this becomes a viable starting unit out of TC I think we'd be in good shape:
Thomas-Bitonio-Reiter-Pasztor-Coleman
With these guys as backups:
Drango, Erving, Fabiano, Greco, ?
There isn't likely an immediate upgrade in this draft to those starting 5 unless we burn a very early pick. If we want to upgrade that starting five before the season starts, we'll need to do so in FA. (Which I prefer over trying to upgrade in this draft.)
willie...got to agree with most of your post.
Unless the front office is willing admit they made a mistake in drafting Coleman to fill the RT slot, I see no reason for the Browns to draft anymore OLine talent.
Shon Coleman is an unknown and deserves the benefit of a doubt to at least get the opportunity to compete for the RT position. Unless there are health issues that concern the front office, I see Coleman and Erving competing for the RT spot.
But, lets not forget about the guy who started 15 games at RT before starting the last game of the season at RG. You have to throw Pasztor into the mix because it was his position for 15 starts...unless Pasz is moved out of the RT spot, he might be considered the man to beat for the RT starting job.
With 3 bodies competing for the RT spot, I seriously doubt the Browns draft a OT.
The OG position will have the two starters returning from off season surgery and Drango.
At center, Reiter and Fabiano...
Drafting a OG or center is a possibility, but not a necessity.
With a new OLine coach and this group of OLine guys having a year together, there should be improvement...question is, will it be enough?
I said Cam Robinson, LT, Alabama is one of the best in the draft. He dominated Garrett in the Bama/A&M game.
I seriously doubt that the Browns front office invests any more draft picks in the Oline, having drafted Shon Coleman and Drango last year..so realistically, I doubt they draft Oline in 2017.
j/c...I still say Lamp is a possibility but we would have to use a 2nd round pick for him.
Racz...OT probably will be gone by the 20th pick. So unless we start dropping back from 12 I don't see him as a possibility. Slotting just is not in the cards for him.
I can see us getting Zeiter??? RG for the Bengals in FA or Long from the Packers???
Center...Lamp or late round guy we like. Reiter is recovering from an injury - hopefully he will be as good as new.
Erving the one thing I like is that he is Very Strong his problems have been caught on his heels too much...When he has pulled that is when he has been a beast. But not often enough for us. His Pass Pro has not been good. Is this his last year of his first contract. If he cannot win a starting spot I expect him to be gone. jmho

Whatever happened to Robinson? I thought he was the best T in the draft?

I want to do it as a Cleveland Brown because that's who I am.”
that is a good question bleed. did something happen that caused him to drop?? i have seen some mocks with him going in the second round. i wonder if we would take him if he is there at 33??

If u watched the tape and think that ... you need help analyzing tape ... saying that Cam dominated MG in this years game is akin to a lie ... its not even remotely close to reality .....

Garret made a quick first step on a pass and recognized the possible screen immediately...I was impressed Coincidentally there was a sack.
The only real pass play Garret got the edge and was on his way to QB - QB fluttered a pass.
I know its just the first series.
From what I read Cam did have a good game in that one.
for those questioning his drop. And I would not be too sorry to see us getting him at 12 but if he drops to 33 it would be a steal.
He has dropped a little in the MOCK GUYS we don't know about the NFL teams but the word is he won't be able to make the transition to left tackle. He would have to play RT which is fine with me.

missed the tip was looking at Garrett and he was on his way to the QB I thought it was obvious he rushed his pass and thats called a Pressure in the books.

I think that mac knows that Garrett is the consensus overall number one pick and that the Browns will probably take him. Thus, he is already ripping Garrett so he can bash the FO when they do indeed take Garrett.

He could sneak into the bottom of the first round simply because of lack of deepth at the position. There will be maybe 20 with a first round grade.
vers...you are in love with Garrett and gloss over his negatives believing he is the right choice for the Browns.
I'm more cautious, preferring to view Garrett not through rose colored glasses and not influenced by anyone else's opinion...but based on what the guy showed on film and not based on a highlight reel.
Knowing that Gregg Williams is the defensive coordinator helps...I see Gregg Williams as "old school" and as an experienced judge of defensive talent...and not overly impressed by a highlight reel, like some fans or media might be.
mac, I talked about Myles Garrett after actual games beginning at the start of the 2015 season. In one of the early college football threads, I stated he was the best football player in college. That was the year where Wentz, Bosa, Zeke, Ramsey, etc were playing.
So, don't give me this crap about watching "highlight videos. I was talking about the guy's play before you even knew who he was.
One point I will make to help your cause mac is that Robinson, for the most part was 1 on 1 with Garrett too. Not a lot of doubling in the game. I do believe this game came after the ankle sprain though.
He improved his run defense by quite a bit. His sack totals were down, though.
mac, it comes down to something very simple in my eyes. Myles Garrett is the best player in the draft and he plays the second most impactful position on the field.
The Browns would be foolish not to draft him and I believe they will indeed draft him.
Mac...did you not see his very exceptional first step...that is what HOFers are made of use the eyes not stats. He is special... and I loved the reaction on that screen pass. That is exceptional stuff! jmho Not that you would change your mind...lol

Why NFL coaches say even the top offensive linemen are not ready to play right away
NDIANAPOLIS – Poor offensive line play was an epidemic in the NFL in 2015, with poor pass protection and shoddy run blocking more the norm rather than the exception.
“I think everyone in the NFL has to shore up their offensive lines,” new Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said.
But as the NFL gathers in Indianapolis for the annual scouting combine, head coaches and general managers don’t expect the draft to be a quick fix for any teams looking to improve their offensive line.
Most of the best college offensive linemen, including multiple players who will be drafted in the first round, are considered NFL projects.
The college game now is just too different, NFL executives said, and players are entering the league with so much to learn.
Bell: Heisman winner Derrick Henry has something big to prove at combine “You’re drafting a guy right now coming out of some colleges that haven’t been in a three-point stance since high school, and you’re going to pay him a ton of money. You have to teach him to get in a three-point stance and run block,” Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said. “It’s fundamentals that we’re going back now and have to teach. We never had to teach it before. Great athletes. The athletes are much, much better, but the fundamentals are worse than they’ve ever been.”
Good article. We often discuss how hard it is to evaluate QBs due to the college offenses they have been part of, but the same holds true w/offensive linemen who come from those types of programs. Also, as the article states, there is so much they have to learn in order to function in the NFL in terms of technique, responsibilities, and recognition.
Packers G T.J. Lang, Bengals G Kevin Zeitler and former No. 2 overall pick Luke Joeckel set to hit market
Over the next week, ClevelandBrowns.com will break down the top players who could be available when the NFL’s free agency period opens in three weeks.
Overview
The Browns’ offensive line was hampered by injuries last season, including season-ending blows to Joel Bitonio, John Greco and Austin Reiter, who showed promise in his first and only start. The good news? Cleveland is set to return those three, 10-time Pro Bowler Joe Thomas, Cameron Erving and a handful of young players who contributed in 2016.
Even so, there’s always a need for depth and talent on the offensive line ... and last year proved to be a good example of that.
Who’s out there
Luke Joeckel (G, Jaguars, 25) — Joeckel was the second overall pick in 2013, suffered ACL/MCL injury Week 4
T.J. Lang (G, Packers, 29) — Eight-year veteran and six-year starter in Green Bay, 2016 Pro Bowler Russell Okung (LT, Broncos, 29) — Entering 8th season, spent 2016 with the Broncos (16 starts)
Riley Reiff (RT, Lions, 28) — Four-year starter for Detroit Ricky Wagner (RT, Ravens, 27) — Three-year starter for Baltimore
Larry Warford (G, Lions, 25) — Four-year starter for Detroit
Andrew Whitworth (LT, Bengals, 35) — Entering 12th season, stalwart on Cincinnati’s OL, three-time Pro Bowler
Kevin Zeitler (G, Bengals, 26 years old) — Zeitler, a five-year starter in Cincinnati, played for Browns coach Hue Jackson from 2012-15 and was an All-Pro selection last season
I'm honestly not sure where this whole "12 month injury" thing is coming from. What injury do you know of that will take an athlete out for an entire year? The medicine practiced at your local hospital is only something like the medicine practiced in a professional sports clinic.
Browns RG John Greco (Lisfranc surgery) expects to be ready for training camp. It is an aggressive goal after Greco underwent Lisfranc surgery in mid-December. He is more likely to open camp on the PUP list, but he could be ready for Week 1. LG Joel Bitonio is also recovering from Lisfranc surgery.
1. Its a weight bearing injury...usually athletes recover a little faster than average men but this is a weight bearing injury with a 300+ man.
2. I believe when he first got the injury and was scheduled for surgery, it was stated that he would be ready to return around the 5-7th game. Can't remember the exact time to come back but something like that.
3. Greco is the one who stated he will be ready for training camp you can't tell cause he might be going on what an accountant needs to be at to get back to normal...not a 300+ pound OLman.
4. I was thrown back a little with how skinny Greco's legs were...that is Greco in the pic with Jim Brown right?
