Only $20billion? We could pay that off pretty quick.

Yea, thats supposed to be $20 Trillion and most people don't realize that Obama left us with another $10 Trillion in additional, guaranteed debt to be paid for over the next 10 years.

Sucks to be the next 2 generations of Americans stuck paying for his agenda. They will remember his legacy.

Swish, apparently you didn't get the memo that we're the selfish generation that is entitled and doesn't know how to do anything right.

Please pay attention.

And you continue to ignore that the war chest credit card wasn't included in the dept until Obama took office. Bush put two wars on the debt credit card hence the additional debt. But whatever. Selective memories run rampant around here.

Which generation was that? Oh, that's right, it was every generation.. Every single generation has had economic ups and downs, every single one. The generation that brought us the growth in the 1960s was also largely still in charge for the collapse of the late 1970s.... The same generation that brought us the tech boom of the 90s also brought us the housing collapse of 2007... Your generation will be no different.

Once you have a certain amount saved up they kick you off and it's less than $5000 for most states in mine its 2,000$. It's all set up to keep you just inside the poverty level unless you strike it big with a great job. BTW minimum wage is set up so that 2 adults working full time keep the family at poverty level income.

It should be set up that way. Who the hell starts at minimum wage and stays at minumum wage? You'd have to be incompetent to stay at the wage a 16 year old starts out at on his or her first job. Let's be real here.

Some jobs are meant to be starter jobs. You can't pay the grill person at Burger King $35,000 a year just because they didn't show any gumption earlier on to do better v the kid who decided to make a go at making some money being a dental tech or land surveyor on a 2 year degree.

In my day it was called "make a living". If it didn't pay, you best find something else to do. Society or Corporations don't owe you anything. You earn your worth.

Not for nothing, but my experience is that thinking is completely out of touch with what's really going on out there, in 2016.

Have seen a "ton" of heads of household at or near minimum wage, because that's what you have, there is not the " find something else" available.
and also, the often raising of the minimum wage to pace earnings gains, so one might earn more, yet right back to 125% of minimum wage, thanks to another minimum wage increase.
If one entered the workforce after 1987, the situation has been a bit different, to start with the 30 year cost of a 4 year college education.

It's all just meaningless argument, the solution is changing the thinking in America, (everythings a competition), we'd have to get an understanding that the profits of a company are not in conflict with the benefits to the worker.
( ya! good luck getting that one to fly.)

The money is out there, big business has it, that's the problem.

Another way of thinking that has to change, poor folks have to start believing they have an interest in the big game, as long as everythings set up to keep the boot on the neck of the poor man, the poor man isn't going to be the nicest neighbor. And unnice neighbors are a drain on all.

The something else "is" available. You just have to be qulaified to take it.

I do agree that things are screwed up. Sometime in the 60's the libs decided that college was the way to go....after all, it kept them in jobs as teachers.

Then it finally got to where in the 80's, voc-tec schools started closing. Everyone had to go to college to seek the dream. The problem is about 60% never make it through. They just amass student loans they can't pay.

We need to open voc-tech schools. There is nothing wrong with being a welder, cook, hair stylist, or mechanic. And those are vocations from my generation. You can upgrade the trades as you wish.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

I have always loved votech schools. I especially like ones that teach mechanics because those jobs always pay well and are in high demand. Welders are also in high demand everywhere you go. So are machinist. In many cases you can have a kid graduate highschool needing only 2 years of Jr. college to start work at any of these jobs and be making over $20-40 an hour.

I took commercial art at the MCJVS, way, way, way back when.

I came to realize that I was not cut out to do that kind of work as a career, because I often completely disagreed with the clients way too often. lol However, the tools I received have helped my throughout my other careers.

When I managed restaurants, I created and designed most, if not all, of the local advertising for my stores. Later, when I moved on to selling cars, I did all of my follow up materials, my referral materials, and mailer campaigns myself. My employer also allowed my to design my own business cards. I did more and more of these things as I learned to use a computer. I helped with the dealership advertising for many years at the dealership I worked for as well. Then, when I got back into restaurants, before I fell apart. (lol crazy) I did my promotional materials myself.

Today I have created an entire promotional campaign for my church, as well as having created a website. (which I had never done before) It takes me a considerable amount of time to do theses things, with my physical limitations, but the Lord has found a way to use my talents and skills that developed over many decades. It all started way back in the MCJVS.

Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Could be. I certainly hope not, but you're probably right. I'm at the very old end of millennials, but I think what bothers us is the hypocritical aspect of the criticism we receive. I don't remember X getting bashed on as badly as we are, but perhaps I just don't recall and/or the criticism is much more free-flowing and available with all the media out there.

Every generation gets hammered for being lazy and entitled, oddly enough it comes from the generations that raised them to be whatever they are.

And yes, with social media and the internet, EVERYTHING seems to be magnified and distorted these days as to the level of importance it should be given.

I'm an early GenX... and I like millenials. I think they have an opportunity to do tremendous things in the world. I'm still going to complain about them once in a while, but there is a ton of positives from the way they think.

Let's take a look at something we should all know. From the end of WW2 until the seventies/early 80's, America had a lot of good paying jobs. As a result, the majority of Americans had disposable income. Thus most families could afford to buy houses, buy new cars, new appliances and generally support the economy. As a result, the economy was very good.

The longer things have gone on, wages have not kept up with inflation and in some cases have actually gone down. The result is less and less people have disposable income. Less and less people from a percentage aspect have disposable income. Less and less people make enough money to actually contribute to the tax base.

The results are what we have seen with the economy. You can't subtract people from those contributing to the economy and the tax base and expect things to get better. It's pretty basic math.

So simply saying you're going to create jobs is not enough. Those jobs have to be enough to support a family and have disposable income in order to feed the economy.

Now we can all sit here and say that a lot of skills don't deserve high pay. And in some instances I believe this to be correct. Yet at the same time, many jobs people seem to indicate do not deserve a decent wage are going to have to be paid better wages in order for our nations economy to flourish.

As the number of jobs increases, the number of available employees decreases. Wages rise as companies fight for the available workforce.

This is also math.

That is something we agree on. But you have to reach a point where there are more jobs than people to fill them. Only then does industry have to compete for workers.

A quick example. Before I went to nursing school I was a cook. Cooked in a number of restaurants over the span of about 6 or 7 years. The last job I had as a cook in 1996 I was getting paid $10 an hour. My share of the rent of our 2 bedroom townhouse I rented with friends was 1/3 of $450, so $150 a month. One of my buddies currently works as a cook. He makes $12 an hour. His total rent in his two bedroom place is $1100. He's a hard worker and a good cook. I guess he's not supposed to ever be able to get ahead, drive a decent car, but a home...hell his last two TVs were hand me downs from me. But I guess cooking (not fast food mind you) is supposed to be an entry level job for teenagers? (which is an impossibility as it requires skills that take time to build)

I agree, we should all know this. So how anybody can know all of this and still support a politician who favors free trade agreements is beyond me.

We also had a neutral balance of trade. Shipping costs were very high, other countries didn't have the technology or the infrastructure or the skilled workers to make most of what we made, etc.

Yea but we have done wonders for raising the standard of living in 3rd world countries all over the globe.

If you are creating a job that is capable of being performed overseas, then you can only pay that job proportional to what the same job costs overseas and then account for taxes, training and other costs associated with that job... that's the rules that NAFTA set, that's the rules we have to live by.

And it has much less to do with supply side economics and much more to do with free trade agreements. But I know how folks love to pile on Ronald Reagan so I usually stay out of these arguments. The reason our economy is in a tailspin is because of Bill Clinton, liberals need to suck it up and choke on that for a while.

Trump and Congress are working to create more jobs while we send the illegal aliens packing. Should be plenty of work once this is complete. We may be paying many of the illegals $15 bucks per hour just to come back in the future for lack of available workers.

The government will get taxes from everyone working and the cost of Welfare will be greatly reduced as they get off their arse and get a job, and a good job at that.

I don't dispute that NAFTA was a terrible deal for American workers. I railed against it at the time. However, there have been several presidents since then that have stuck by that deal and have even signed more bad trade deals. This isn't really a problem that is the fault of one president, but a continuation of such policies by many presidents.

Yes, but this one President and this Congress can go a long way in reversing the mistakes of the past.

Think of it, even the children of Welfare can return to work now that the coal mines are reopening.(couldn't resist that one)

Well, we both know the coal mines aren't going to open back up but that was pretty funny!

And you see, this is where I hope Trump can be successful. I certainly hope he helps fix lopsided trade deals and brings a ton of jobs back to America. It would be a great thing for our country and the future of jobs.

There is. He's almost a decade younger than me. He's also job hopped a bit due to restaurant closures and/or being unhappy with management. Still doesn't change the fact that in 20 years the general pay has not risen with the rise of cost of living.

My son works in the kitchen of a chain steakhouse, he currently makes about $10/hour. He's 20 years old and has been working there for less than 2 years, in the kitchen less than one year.. he's under consideration for some kind of kitchen management position that would push him up about a dollar an hour... if your buddy has been doing this for 20 years and he's making $12/hour, then there has to be something you aren't telling us.

There is. He's almost a decade younger than me. He's also job hopped a bit due to restaurant closures and/or being unhappy with management. Still doesn't change the fact that in 20 years the general pay has not risen with the rise of cost of living.

Whats your buddy doing about it? ... WTF ... is his plan to wait for the goverment to make things "fair"? .. does he have NO ACCOUNTABILITY here .... i don't get it .....

U know what ... have him move to Washington or NY or one of the other dumb ass states that are going to have a $15 minimum wage in a few years ....

First off, I don't live his life.
Secondly. His girlfriend is in school trying to better herself while he attempts to keep the lights on.
Thirdly, he's the last guy to ever look for a handout. He's also the first guy to give the shirt off his back. So stop assuming.
