Like steaks, burgers, etc.

So when I was younger, i always ordered my steaks well done cause this documentary scared the crap out of me about uncooked food.

Now I get it medium well.

I like my cheeseburgers like I like my cops: plenty of bacon (shout out to my boy Devil!!!!)

I like chili cheese fries.

And you can't eat everybody's potato salad. Some people can't make it right.

Medium rare steaks and burgers. I also enjoy sashimi. The poke tuna in Hawaii is great.

Seeing as I have a long German heritage, I'm a meat and potatoes guy. I make a killer beef stew, awesome chicken noodle soup, and pretty good chicken and dumplings (I'm still trying to perfect the dumplings). I also make a damn fine meat loaf, and I'm quite good with gravies. I have always gotten compliments on my Thanksgiving turkey. I cook mostly what I would call American foods, which are the American equivalents of various ethnic foods we have changed to the American pallet. These would also be considered comfort foods. I eat everything well done.

My wife is good at the fancy cooking. All of mine looks like crap but tastes good.

Steaks medium rare. I'm a big fan of the 'sear on an extremely hot cast iron skillet, then finish in the oven' method. (open a couple windows)

Scrambled eggs cooked so they are set, but not too dry. It's a delicate balance. Sometimes I'll first saute some peppers, mushrooms, an onion, or whatever I have on hand. Some breakfast meat can be used to enhance flavor.

Cheeseburgers are great. Most cook them well but a little pink is fine-- have never gotten sick from one. I like keeping it basic.. cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato or similar. I prefer the focus on the beef anyway-- fresh, high quality meat, generously seasoned with salt and pepper. [edit: and toasted buns!]

Chicken is kind of meh. Bone in, skin on dark meat tastes fine, but I can't do boneless skinless breasts by themselves. bleh. As part of a properly done stir-fry, they're fine though.

I'm a big fan of chili, stews, and the likes. I mostly do those in a slow cooker. I use a slow cooker often actually. Most things are as simple as putting in the pot and turning the switch to low or high and then coming back several hours later to eat. Some dishes are more complicated than that, but not by much.

I'm not a huge fan of beef, though a good burger or steak once in a while is a great thing. Medium or Medium rare.

Pork, duck, and lamb are probably my fave meats, and pretty much any fish or seafood is great. Outside of okra, I'm a fan of most veggies as well, especially root veggies. I'm blessed that we have amazing farmers markets here in PDX.

I often find myself gravitating towards asian foods - vietnamese food, sushi, indian food, thai food. My trip to India last fall was the best food experience of any trip I've been on (including great food locations like Italy, Spain, France). I joke that I was asian in my last life.

40, ever been to Ollie's Trollies in downtown D.C.? It's a phenomenal place that sells tasty milkshakes, and phenomenal medium rare burgers. I stop there whenever I'm in town.

I'm partial to having my meat pretty well cooked. Medium well is how I like my steaks. Burgers done well.

I'm quite partial to beef. I eat some pork but not a lot. I think it's very hard to beat a good brisket. My wife makes the best taco salad I've ever eaten. We buy canned jalapeno peppers and she puts them through our processor for the sauce. Fresh cilantro with tomatoes, lettuce, cheese and a rich cheese sauce she makes, with loads of burger.

And on the fried side, I can't resist her country fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy.

Maybe not the healthiest of things to eat but certainly my guilty pleasure.

Steaks, the better the cut of meat, the less I want it cooked. If it's a ribeye or a t-bone, I'm a medium rare. If it's a really nice filet, throw it on the grill, sip your beer, flip it over, sip your beer, then put it on the plate. I'm good.

Burgers, medium well, not much pink.

Being from Maryland, I'm a shellfish guy. Crabs, lobster, oysters. (Yes, I know lobsters aren't in Maryland)... Nothing better in this world that a nice burger, an ear of corn, then going elbows deep in blue crabs properly steamed and seasoned...

Steaks: Done. No pink.
Burgers: Maybe just a tiny little big of pink.

Venison is about the only red meat I'll eat medium.

I hate going out to eat at a place that, friends say "Oh, it's prime rib night....." To see them eat that red, raw, ewww - I hate it.

Filet? Butterflied, and cooked.

No onions. On anything, or IN anything.

Hot food (spicy) I don't care for.

Hot food (temperature wise), I'll just let it sit until it's at a temp I like.

There is no such thing as American food. It's all a blend of cultures from the great people who came here through the centuries and recipes and methods they brought with them.

So every single thing you eat has been inspired and created with influences from Mexico, Germany, Italy, Asia, Scandinavia, Africa, South America, and the middle east, etc....

If you ever do find any uniquely American food, you should build a wall around your plate to protect it.

And I should add this: pizza. I love it. Pepperoni, ham, chicken, ground beef. Mushrooms. Any combination of that.

Problem arises when, say we're with a group of people and order 3-5 pizzas.

Let's say it's 5 pizza.

Here's what gets ordered (in my experience)
1 supreme (with onions, green peppers, yellow peppers, etc)
1. BBQ chicken (with onions, of course)
1 vegetarian.
1 sausage with onions and peppers.
1 Pepperoni with mushrooms.

Everyone but me likes every pizza, right? I only get to eat the pepperoni and mushroom pizza.

Guess which pizza everyone goes for first? Pepperoni and mushroom. I'll be lucky to 2 pieces, meanwhile, all the pizzas with the other crap on them end up only being half eaten.

So none of the beef, pork, fruits and veggies you eat are imported?

And the products used in those heavily processed foods you eat are 100% American?

The restaurants you eat at don't serve any imported foods?

You have no clue... Truth is you probably eat all kinds of imported food and have no idea you are doing it. Big Agriculture doesn't care where it comes from as long as the profits are high, so your statement is false or in your bubble an Alternative Fact.

Coffee black.
Steak medium.
Burgers done.
Lot's of fresh fruits and veggies.
No heavily processed foods.
Real butter. Always.

I try to eat raw foods (nuts, fruits and veggies) through the day and anything I want after 4pm. It's hard to do but I manage to stick to it at least 4 days a week and it has naturally dropped my sugar level to non diabetes status without meds.

Get yourself some Kerrygold butter. It's very good, there is even better stuff out there but Kerrygold is usually the best you'll find in a typical grocery store.

I also eat a lot of fresh fruit. It makes me feel better and think better. It's hard to explain, but it's very noticeable when diet quality declines for a period of time.

I also drink my coffee black, sometimes anyway. A bit of milk or cream* is fine, but I won't add any sugar.

*cream means real cream or half and half or similar, not some of the nasty creamer out there full of added sugar, hydrogenated fat, and chemicals.

I like ALL TEH FOODZ!

Red meats medium rare unless it is wild game.
I love comfort foods and things with cheeses and sauces, but I do try to minimize that.

I reject as many processed foods as I can and instead try to do my own home cooking as much as possible. I make my own breads, sodas, yogurt, soup stocks.... anything that I can.

Coffee must be black - because I'm not a horrible poser that hates everything and just wants to watch the world burn (ok, yes I am, but still, I stand by my point).

I'm a very habitual eater.

I can eat the same food all the time.

Every breakfast:

My main staples are:

(Total Cereal is like taking a daily multi-vitamin - 100% R.D.A.of 14 vitamins)

with powdered milk (vitamin D and calcium)

Also fresh lettuce, tomato, carrots, broccoli, peppers.

Other foods sesame seed rolls, sliced cheese, canned salmon and tuna.

Extremely rare I eat meat other than fish.

I can't imagine not having an open palette. I love Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Jamaican, Puerto Rican, Greek, Thai, etc cuisine. To me they all offer so many different spice/flavor profiles. To exclude any of them from a diet choice seems self defeating. Now I'm picky. Don't get me wrong. I hate cauliflower and broccoli no matter what ethnic background tries to use it. But there's no way I could completely write off the litteral world of offerings because of a narrow mind or palette.
Thankfully Portland's diversity means I get to enjoy really authentic food from around the world through just a short drive in any given direction.

I have a lot of weird eating habits. Every morning I have an avacado bannana shake with spirulina in it. I used to be vegan. I cut out bread and cheese from my diet, unless I'm eating out -- which is rare. I just can't wait till the spring comes and I can start planting some things outside. Although I have to use a community garden and, while no pesticides, still has the taste of bus exhaust.

You know the tissue of steak makes it near impossible for bacteria to really get into it? So there's really no point in cooking it to medium unless you're trying to punish yourself.

Blue rare for the good cuts. Rare for the rest.
