Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon, who has not played since 2014, is applying for reinstatement Wednesday, his business manager said.

"Josh is living with me and is in the best place mentally that he has been in dating back years before entering the NFL," Michael Johnson said. "He has taken the proper steps to treat his issues and has followed a very strict protocol that the league and our team here has laid out for him.

"He's also in the best shape of his life and feels even better than he did when he had his breakout year in 2013. This will be a special year for Josh and we are all very proud of the way he has taken the necessary steps to turn his life around."

Gordon spent 30 days in a New Hampshire rehab facility in October.

The Browns have made it clear they are moving on without Gordon, who was suspended for the entire 2015 season for multiple violations of the NFL's substance abuse policies.

Gordon's off-field issues began in college. The talented yet troubled wideout was dismissed from the teams at Baylor and Utah for failing drug tests. The Browns selected him in the second round of the 2012 supplemental draft.

The NFL suspended Gordon for 10 games in 2014 for violating the substance abuse policy, and the Browns suspended him for the season finale for missing the final walk-through the day before. The NFL also suspended him for two games in 2013 for violations of the substance abuse policy.

The Browns welcomed Gordon back after the 2015 suspension, but they also drafted four receivers and gave ex-quarterback Terrelle Pryor a full look at the position.

In 2013, Gordon's second year in the league, he had 87 catches for a league-leading 1,646 yards, but he played in only five games the next season.

I could honestly see New England giving him a chance ... and him tearing it up

But he owes us two more years, and even in preseason he looked like a big asset. But he's fooled me over and over and over

This is true. He owes us two years. Plan for the worst and continue hoping for the best

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if he's clean, I got no problem with him... But that's a huge if!

Gordon, Pryor, and Coleman?

I'd almost give NE whatever they wanted (besides #1) for Jimmy G.

We'd probably make the playoffs next year.

None of this will happen.

I am really rooting for the guy but at this point D4L has the title of the thread right.

I wont believe it until he suits up for a regular season game.

The trouble for us Browns fans is that the 'what if' is so damn strong.

What if goes either way.

He stays clean, has a 1200 yard year with 10'TD's.

He doesn't stay clean...we all know how that goes.

WE DON'T NEED A QB BEFORE WE GET A LINE THAT CAN PROTECT HIM

Gordon, Pryor, Coleman would look awfully good together on the field ... even if it is just in Madden

I'd say add him as a trade piece with another team or keep him and possibly trade him later. Even though we will probably just release him get something out of/for him. I already know he's gonna go to another team, stay clean, and be a contributing WR. Why? Because...we're the Browns

The Annual Tease: Josh Gordon

The most appropriate thread title I've read in a long time. Kudos!

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Johnny Manziel re-hires agent Erik Burkhardt

One of the most radioactive quarterbacks in recent league history is asking for another chance -- again.

Johnny Manziel has re-hired agent Erik Burkhardt to help him craft a comeback, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported Wednesday morning.

Both reported that the former Browns quarterback was first asked to make "serious commitments" to Burkhardt, who dropped Manziel as a client last February.

Now the former Texas A&M star is drawing "real interest from teams" at this week's NFL Scouting Combine on Indianapolis, according to the NFL Network duo.

Manziel was released by the Browns last March following two ultra-turbulent seasons in Cleveland. The 24-year-old quarterback was suspended four games last year for a substance-abuse violation and found himself embroiled in a misdemeanor assault charge after he was accused of hitting and threatening former girlfriend Colleen Crowley. The charge reportedly is "on track to be dismissed under conditions," per The Dallas Morning News.

"Everything has been going extremely smoothly and my life is trending upward," Manziel told Judge Roberto Cañas in Dallas on Tuesday.

A hyped-up first-round draft pick by the Browns in 2014, Manziel started just eight games for the team, throwing seven touchdowns and seven picks and failing to morph into the superstar under center Cleveland expected.

While he improved on the field in 2015, Manziel's progress was quickly undermined by a barrage of off-the-field issues that evolved into a chaotic year-plus away from the game.

While his skills remain enticing, it's fair to wonder if Manziel will ever become an NFL starter in a league where quarterbacks obsess over the position night and day.

We'll find out soon enough how much genuine interest remains around Johnny Football.

I've been as hard on Gordon as anyone, but if he plays anywhere in 2017, it should be here. If I'm not mistaken, he's not an RFA until 2018, and even then we can franchise him in 2018 and 2019 if we want. Gordon, if he stays on the straight-and-narrow, is the only Browns receiver actually worth the franchise tag. If Gordon wants to play anywhere for the next 3 years it should only be as a Cleveland Brown. With the (hopefully) imminent re-signing of Pryor, and the anticipated emergence of Coleman, we could have one of the most dominant WR corps in the league.

QFT. I used to be a big Josh Gordon fan myself. But there's no way this will come to fruition.

Sashi kind of sounded like it MIGHT happen ... like a lot of things would have to happen, but didn't rule it out

I'd have no problem giving Gordon another chance. If his rehab stint was a success, he still has a chance to be a big time player. He's screwed up a lot, but he could potentially be a bad-ass WR if he walks the straight and narrow.
Some of you seem to think that people can never change, but that simply isn't the case.
We'd have very little to lose if we gave him another shot. And a LOT to gain.

...and we still do not have a resolution nor apparently, a consensus as to whether or not he should be on our roster.

Haha, exactly. Yet you still get the same responses:

"It's not hurting us to keep him"

"What if..."

... I don't get it. It's just wise to keep your hands and hope out of that cookie jar. The cookies are tainted, tainted with stupidity.
