That went about how I expected. I was a bit surprised by the bench press (pleasantly). Over 30 reps with his 35" arms is pretty impressive. It looks like he is healthy again.
4.64 is pretty good at ~270, and it looked like he could do better if he cleaned up his form.
Write his name on the card now.

I thought I heard the reporter say that Garrett was happy w/his other numbers and would just run the 40 at his Pro Day because he was unhappy w/his 40 times. I'm pretty sure that is what was said....

Turn in the draft card NOW.
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

There is 0.15 to 0.2 seconds that can be had in starting in good form. John Ross was the best that I have seen, and it is obvious that he practiced without blocks to get his technique right.
That said. The most impressive performance for a DL since Mario and Julius. Turn in the card.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!

It's March 5th and as far as I am concerned the 49ers are on the clock because we should have our decision made.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

No sense bluffing about possibly wanting Trubisky, or anyone else for that matter.
It is a safe FO pick as well. If the guy flops, you couldn't blame them for taking the guy. All the risk is in NOT taking him.
We need to focus on who we might select at 12 or focus on potential trade partners. If JG is really the target at QB, offer the 12 pick to the Pats right now, contingent on getting a 4 year deal worked out. That isn't the type of deal that can happen on draft day.
The price seems high to me....maybe we can get a lower round pick from the Pats as well....say a 5th rounder.

Did Green Bay trade Rogers, did the Colts trade Luck? If JG is has good has some people think he is, he will remain in NE, the one being traded will be Brady not JG. If NE wants to trade him, them that should tell us that he is no Rogers, but an Osweiler, Hoyer or Cassel so IMHO, nobody in their right mind will trade a round #1 pick for him.

The first is their asking price..doesn't mean thats what they'll get..just depends on if they truly want to trade and how desperate teams are to sign a brady backup. BB knows the league is QB hungry and he has a chance to obtain assets for the dynasty.. Does anyone doubt he couldn't find a QB in the draft immediately after Brady retires...I don't.. Thats why guys like JG and Brissett are expendable

In my mind Miles is the clear #1, I just hope we don't trade down. Deshaun Watson is my number 2, but if he is not there on the #12 I say take a project QB latter, and move on. JG has had half a good game since we was drafted, nothing substancial to change my mind on him.

But to your point, I'm not sold on JG either..just saying it might not take a first

Anything but Garrett with the first pick is a complete waste. If you want a project, go to Michael's and buy a paint by number kit. The NFL draft with a freak like Garrett is no time to be stupid!!

And to think some advocate picking a QB with only 13 starts over Garrett. That's insane.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Mary Kay will be devastated if we don't get a QB by the 12th pick. She thinks we might draft Trub 1st overall and trade 12 for Garrapolo.

I just read an article that was titled, "Myles Garrett isn't worth the No. 1 pick"!
I know..how dare anyone have a negative viewpoint of Myles Garrett...
While I took some heat from those who had fallen in love with Garrett before (and after) watching his "highlight video"..I watched entire games..just like the author of the article...
...my conclusion was the same...
"So to recap, I definitely see Myles Garrett as being a first-round pick. He will be a quality player for seven to 10 years, provided he stays healthy.
But his effort bothers me."
The fact that much of Garrett's "stat line" came from his play against inferior talent has been noted and ignore by those who are "in love" with Garrett's highlight reels...
...I too am bothered by Garrett's effort. That does not mean I hate the guy or believe he should not be the Browns #1 pick...it does mean, I question the effort he gave during his 2016 season.
I recognize Garrett's talent and believe he could be much better than the effort he gave during his 2016 season.
The 2017 season will be a new experience for Garrett, facing better talent and better educated, taught by experienced NFL coaches who will not baby him...but NFL coaches such as Gregg Williams, who will demand a much better effort and hopefully push Garrett to play up to his full potential...should the Browns draft him.
For the record...while some ignored what was on the videos, many who reviewed Garrett's 2016 videos came up with the same assessment that I did...Garrett could be better than he showed during his 2016 season, if he gave a better effort!
Should Garrett be the Browns #1 pick, I welcome him knowing he will have a coach who will demand that he play to his full potential...Gregg Williams and the defensive coaching staff.

Take Joe Thomas fishing.
A rather insane and Clowney-esque Combine. I remain impressed. Take this one!

During Combine coverage, the NFL Channel had a side-by-side comparison of Garrett and Clowney. Incredibly similar.
I can live with that.

I was as much disappointed by Allen as I was surprised by Garrett. Garrett did what I expected on the field, he ran fast, jumped high, yada, yada, yada, the bench was a surprise, I did not see that kind of strength in his game tape. He needs to use that more, that SHOULD come with coaching.
Allen, I thought would have been better, he wasn't terrible, but opened himself up for more questions. He shows strength in his tape, but only did 21 on the bench. His 40 wasn't exceptional but at 5.00 is fine. He still plays with great technique, and leverage. He, more than likely, is ahead of most in this draft in that regards(coaching was probably better). His motor is arguably the best in this draft for DL. He's had great production and shouldn't fall to far.
But as a proponent of his from the start I'd say he's no longer in the conversation at #1, even though I still like him and think he is gonna be a good 3 technique.

I think Solomon Thomas goes before Allen. 4.69 40, 30 reps and good showing across the board.

I think Solomon Thomas goes before Allen. Same. I think Allen really needs to improve those numbers at his pro day. Although, I would guess from his shoulder injuries that those are what most of his power comes from. I just see him whip SEC LTs 3 yards down the field during game day, so it's hard for me to register how low that 21 BPs are.

Honestly -- Don't even bother. I think everyone kinda sees his angle by now. The contrarian is an important part in any discussion, but it's tiresome now. Who cares if Garrett didn't pursue when he had backside contain? Last thing he and the Browns need is him getting a torn ACL on a cut block, because he's trying to make a play for a school that doesn't even pay him. If someone doesn't like his 2016 tape, watch his 2015 tape. Dude's been amazing. Turn it in.

Even though he was cleared by the doctors the shoulder issue will probably be his biggest question to answer.
I wonder if Allen even benches during the season because of hia shoulders? I dont think 21 reps is indictaive of his strength which to me is evident on film. I think 21 reps is indicative of guy that doesnt bench often to protect his shoulders.

if I was to guess, based on my experience lifting and training people, he probably does bench. but more than likely explosive movement...slow negative, pause, and explode..probably pretty light, or he probably uses a reverse grip which is the only way I bench now unless i'm trying to check my progress. But even so, 225 for a man that size should be nothing. It could be his technique as well. Given shoulder issues, my guess is he has a real controlled motion, the way they bench in the combine where they bounce it would cause slop at the zero negative for a split second and take all the tension off the muscles and then instantly activating to push it up, given the degree of his elbows would determine how much goes to the shoulder..basically he can't bench the way you could if your shoulders were healthy, and the way he benches now isn't conducive to high rep

The 2 most common knocks on Garrett are that his sack #'s dropped from 2015 to 2016, and that he is very good pass rusher but questionable against the run. PFF ranked Garret #3 DE against the run in 2016.
This suggests to me (admittedly without spending hours watching game film) that he was aware of the knock against his run defense and he concentrated in 2016 on improving that aspect of of his game. Staying home and not pursuing the plays away from his side could therefor account for lower sack stats and the appearance of taking plays off.

Anyone believing it is foolish to point out that Garrett's effort during the 2016 season deserved to be questioned...those folks simply watched Garrett's highlights and were overly impressed with his 4.5 sacks against Texas-San Antonio.
Since I first voiced my opinion concerning Garrett's effort months ago, how many others around the country have voiced concerns about Garrett's effort during his 2016 season?
I've said that MG is a tremendous athlete and if he puts forth the effort, he could be one of the best defensive players in the league. I also said that I believe Gregg Williams might be the best coach for Garrett because he will demand a max effort from all his players, including MG.
I've said I would have no problem if the Browns draft MG #1 because of the coaching environment that Gregg Williams and his staff will be establishing.
Peen, just what is foolish about my point of view?
