So now that Taylor is off the market, what are our options?

Jay Cutler and Colin Kaepernick are clearly the two best available options. That is scary. If I were with the team I'd be scouring the other team's backups.

I say no to both. Rather go with Kessler, RG3, and Hogan and wait and see how things go.

Neither are good fits for this team IMO. Although I'd take Kaep over Cutler

I agree with both of you. I'd rather take my lumps with Kessler, Hogan, <insert rookie>. Better defense, better talent should hopefully see us looking up rather than down?

Definitely, maybe a rookie or Nick Foles (if he gets released)


Garapolo is certainly the best option IMO

If it takes two first round picks to get him, then he is not an option.

I was thinking earlier though, I mean, we have a 12 spot. Now if those two first round picks come from a better team who is picking around 20, that makes our first round pick look better.

There's 32 Possible first round picks. Our First round pick is in the upper half. Potentially we could trade our First Round Pick down to a team and get two firsts out of it.

New England could do the same thing if they want as well. So maybe it's just posturing. The 12 and say a 3rd or 4th round pick might bring us closer than one might think (as the Pats could potentially trade out of the 12, move down to say 25-30, and get a 1st round pick next year out it as well)

There are not many big time players getting traded on draft day and there no teams trading up [to non-first or second pick spots] before the draft.

I think the Garoppolo ship has sailed (unless the Patriots come off the rumored asking price).

There is no way the Patriots believe that is remotely possible. In fact, we may be heading towards common ground. First, the Pats said they weren't trading him. Now...we're at two first. This is progress, people!

Oh, definitely. But this is a bit of an unusual scenario. The hard part is, we'd have to basically be trading for him without a new contract in place. But otherwise, I could see it happen. Unusual or not.


Either way, it definitely gives us time to get some options in place. Who knows, maybe we'd prefer Trubisky with that 12 pick, and we'll want to sit there and wait and see how things go.

Give RG3 the keys. If you decide to draft any QB cool, but they shouldn't be day 1 starter anyway.

He couldn't stay healthy with the Cowboy's line. In Cleveland, he'd last about as long as Bogut did.

JC: I'm seeing articles saying Geno Smith might go back to the Jets. So it could always be worse. I'd take Kessler and RG3 at this moment over Geno and the Jets.

I'd let Kessler and RG3 battle it out till the first preseason game ends. Maybe bring in a Rookie QB to join the mix. Otherwise, we wait to see what happens with Foles or how things look with trading for Jimmy G

He's better than RGIII, but I don't think he is much better than Kessler. I'd pass.

Get rid of RGIII and let he and Kessler fight it out...better for Browns JMHO.

Probably a better fit, but i don't know how much upside he has. Loved Simien at Northwestern. Guy would get in these rhythms and would just be money. He'd throw these bullet mid-range passes that looked great.

My favorite thing was his reason for going to Northwestern. He said he got into better football schools, but academically, he never would have gotten into Northwestern without football. He knew his chances of making the NFL, and he wanted to take advantage of that opportunity.

Well, he did make the NFL, (and did graduate Northwestern). Love the guy.

But honestly, I'm not sure he's better than Kessler. And I like Hogan on the team too. He doesn't get talked about, but many people though highly of him in the draft. Stanford QB too. Good school (like Northwestern). If he's relatively cheap, i'm all in. But if we're planning on spending money on him, and then getting a rookie QB or something to develop, I dunno.

I wonder why everyone seems so eager to get rid of Griffin, even preferring Kessler? Yet the lone win of the season and the most competitive games came with him at the helm.

Anyhow according to some media reports Griffin may be gone by today or tomorrow.

I'm not so sure about that. I think that it's media hype more than anything. Everyone is assuming that we are getting Jimmy G and that sounds like it is far from being a done deal.

As much as it may pain some people to admit, at the end of the season when RG3 could put a few starts together, he seemed to progress with each game.

For me, his injury history makes him a very unreliable option as our starter, but as of yet we see no upgrade that would promote cutting him at this time.

Hell, if we went into the season with RGIII, Osweiler & Kessler, we'd be miles ahead of where we were last year. With a healthy RGIII, his experience in the system, and the upgrade on the O-line, this would be a much better team. Even if Osweiler had to step in or start from day one. JMHO.

With RG3 gone, there seem to be 4 options;

1) Trade for JG or KC and hope they are the answer
2) Take one of the top QB (MT/DW/DK) in the draft and hope they are the answer
3) Take a project in the mid/late rounds and develop them behind BO/CK
4) Roll with BO/CK/KH and look to next year for THE QB.

My preferences;

1) I want JG, and would go with #12+, but doubt that is going to happen. I just don't see BB trading his ready-to-go TB replacement for anything reasonable. KC may be more attainable if he forces the issue.

4) I like the QBs who could declare for next year's draft. Like in '14, I think there will be multiple options. The problem is, unless we tank, with the improvements to the OL and a decent draft, we may be in the 10-15 (pick) range. We have the ammo to move up, but need a dance partner.

2) I think MT could be something, his lack of experience scares me along with that locked front leg thing, but I think he's the best option this year. I like DWs makeup, but question his tools. Not interested in DK.

3) If we can't get a trade, miss TM, and can't wait til next year, then Webb (DW2) might be the last option.

Frankly, I like Webb more than any other QB in this draft.
