It's been reported that the Browns have been well represented by scouts at the Shrine game and the Senior Bowl.

I don't think Gregg Williams will have much to do with drafting anyone personally, so I guess I don't care.

We will.

He seems pretty darn good. He may not have come here without some assurance he would get a player or two for the D.

Garrett to start.

peen, I am not a fan of Williams. Another coach who worked w/him said that Williams added that third g in his first name to stand for "great." LOL

I think he is a loud-mouthed punk who lives vicariously through his players.

John Johnson (S), Boston College
^^I really like this kid from the minimal tape out out there, i want to see how he matches up side by side with the other top seniors
Desmond King (CB), Iowa
Post senior bowl practices and game:
I'm crossing Sefo off my late round-UDFA list

Tyler did his thing, I would have him as a player to target mid-round.

Nate Gerry def looked like he belonged out there, he's a rocked up dude, short strider and a lil stiff but an easy fit for me as a box safety

John Johnson answered some of my questions especially during the practice reps. Great movement skills, quick feet and speed. I hated that he missed a tackle in the game but the RB with a had of steam and a 2-way go advantage on him. I think he's underrated right now by the draft media but will climb up the media boards when the start looking at him more. There is 1 game cut-up on him where he shows the full tool kit I look for in a safety. Movement, tackling efficiency, tight coverage, ability to make plays in coverage and play some snaps of center field FS.

DK. I wanted to see more suddenness and quickness form Desmond King. Maybe he just got a lil heavy on the banquet circuit but he def looks faster on film then he looked at the Senior Bowl practices.

I watched a few Webbs games and couldn't get a gauge of his arm strength. But from watching the SB practices and game the kid has waaaayyy more arm then I thought and has an ease in his motion that I like.

I came away with a better feel for his arm talent, and against the comp that was out there he easily had the most (w/ the Pipkin kid a close second).

I've been drafting DW a lot in the first pick mock draft site because he's usually available in the late rounds. But I wonder if this game will change his media draft perception. I know I'm gonna go back and actual chart some of his games.

Nothing more then connecting the dots speculation on my part but IF this regime liked (sources say) Goff and being that Webb is from the same school, played in the same system with comparable production and has a bigger arm and bigger frame.....you would think it follow that they would like Webb too? And you don't have to draft in him in the first couple rounds maybe even 3-4.

It seems to me from everything I am reading that there isn't much difference from the top rated QB's in this draft to the 2nd tier one's like Mahomes and Webb who we can probably get in the 2nd or 3rd round. Why waste a #1 on a QB when they are so close talent wise. Just a thought.

There are 2 players I really hope we look at in this coming draft.

I like Webb as a developmental guy with very good tools, and I really like Derek Rivers from YSU.

Possibly so. Some of those guys are like that. I can see where parts of his personality could start to wear thin.

From all the QBs in the Senior Bowl I liked Webb the best. If he's there with our first pick in the 3rd we got to pull that trigger. He has a higher end than does Kessler.

As long as he sits and learns for a year or two.

As for Gregg Williams lets wait at least a season before we bury him...lol

http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/john-johnson?id=2558183

Johnson's career with the Eagles ended on a high note, beating his home-state team, Maryland, in the Quick Lane Bowl. He had 12 tackles (11 solo) in the contest, capping off an excellent senior season (77 tackles, 2.5 for loss, three interceptions, nine pass breakups). In 2015, Johnson got on scouts' radars as a first-year starter (63 tackles, 1.5 for loss, three INT, three PBU). He may have done so as a sophomore, but missed the last five regular season games of the year with an arm injury before coming back for the bowl game (25 tackles on the year, two PBU). The second-team all-state pick from Maryland contributed in all 12 games as a freshman, picking up four tackles and a fumble recovery.

my 2 cents...

Right now John Johnson is flying under the radar.
He's a former CB moved to FS.
His tape shows high tackling efficiency. Brings his arms to wrap. And takes good angles.
He's versatile playing Single Post Safety, in the box can match up w/ WRs in the slot or even out wide.
His coverage against WRs in man is hip pocket tight.
Has quick feet that help him mirror in man.
Watching Senior Bowl practice his movement skills were phenomenal. He moved better then most of the CBs out there. Very fluid.
If he runs fast enough I wouldn't be surprised if NFL teams move him back to CB.

He sounds great, and I wanted to get more of a look at him a while ago. Sadly, draftbreakdown doesn't have much on him, and I couldn't really track down tape elsewhere, either.

There's other tapes out there but you have to be creative. You have to find prospects that went against the Boston College defense for example DeShaun Watson vs Boston College, Lamar Jackson versus Boston College....etc...

Bumping since Obi is on the mainstream radar and people were asking about his film.

Wow! That was awful. I'm very disappointed after hearing so much about him and his Combine numbers.

He really struggled to get off of and avoid blockers. Doesn't rap on tackles. Kinda hesitant. Got himself sideways at times.

It's just one tape, but disappointing.

I don't think the tape was that bad...he definitely is raw. But the reason that I would consider him here is that if we utilize him correctly and basically point him and let him ATTACK...until he learns the finer techniques of his position.

On the film he seemed to be in a Deep Zone all the time and would come up and react to the run which evidently teams did a ton of...lol laugh

The question would be is he a good Football Student. Is he the kind of kid that will work hard and get better with each season. IF So I would think of pulling the trigger on him. We would probably get the two Most Athletic Players in the draft for our Defense. Garrett and him at 12? Probably a reach but man if the kid learns and improves...well worth it 3 years down the road. As mentioned in the meantime let him attack in the beginning.

I see what you are saying, but there are some good safeties in this draft.

I've heard talk of Obi potentially being a press corner conversion candidate. That is actually intriguing to me. Still not sure where I'd Draft him, but with Garrett providing pressure could possibly be an effective pairing. Mitigate his angles/tackling some, and his length/speed/hops could be tough to throw over/around.

Sometimes, measurables don't transfer to the field. That tape was horrible.

There are some very good safeties in this draft:

--Hooker
--Adams
--Budda Baker
--Marcus Williams
--Marcus Maye
--Justin Evans

I think the Browns have a lot of options. I wouldn't reach on a guy just because he tested off the charts.

I like all those safeties on that list. I also think Desmond King out of Iowa may be a great free safety but he played corner so there would be a transition. Baker is one of the more instinctive players in the bunch outside Adams / Hooker. I just worry about the punishment he takes by being so dang fearless.

I wasn't really advocating for Obi just showing some comparisons. I like the kid but not before the middle of the second.

Yeah I know...remember I'm just thinking about him...lol I don't realistically think we would or should take him at 12.

It's cool. I got really excited about the guy, too. The tape just ruined it for me. LOL

Remember TJ McDonald? I was all over the guy from things I read and watching some highlight hits. Then, I started studying the guy while he was at USC, and I came to the conclusion that I wouldn't even draft him, never mind in the first round. No lateral movement, terrible hips, trouble changing direction, straight-line runner, etc.

There are people around here who still actually like the guy. Probably because he is always good for a couple of highlight hits a year........if and when he is playing.

King registers very high on PFF but with a transition to a new position will drop some. He's a top 10 talent imo we could possibly get at 33. He's a big possibility for us especially if we fill ss in the next few days. Even as a corner his natural feel and instincts is off the charts. I'd love to see what he can do at fs. Possible Malcolm Jenkins 2?

I'm rooting for King to run a fast 40.
I hate it for the kid if his 3 years of production and instincts at CB to go down the drain due to speed.
I was surprised he didn't drop weight before the combine.

Maybe he can be FS, but its a transition that would knock him down my board

Honestly I don't even care what his 40 is. On tape I'm not convinced he's a cb. He's a great college corner just not sure he'd translate

C'mon you don't care? even if he runs a 4.41 or a 4.78 wink

I'm not sure he'll translate either, and that 40 will help me.

If he's fast enough, he's a cover-2 zone corner only
