As reported, Joe Mixon was visited by Browns and others http://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2017/story/...s-ahead-pro-day would you like him on the team due to talent or is he a no way because of his video punching a woman....your thoughts.
I'm torn, he paid a heavy price, lost a year and according to the law has paid up....however, striking a woman the way he did IS serious, do we want him as a Cleveland Brown rep....I'm thinking FO is doing due diligence and that's it, but who knows......GO Browns!!!!

He made a horrific mistake and paid for it (not enough IMO). However, some team will draft him because he does have talent. If it's the Browns, I don't have to like him, but I could root for his play (but I'd feel dirty doing it).
I hope someone else takes him.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."
How long do you hold the guy hostage? It's been, what?, 3 years? He's been clean so far, so it's time to move on. People talk about forgiveness but never seem to forgive.

Punching a woman is a deep seeded character flaw. You can forgive him for the act, but that doesn't mean you have to want him around. (Also, he is not asking me for forgiveness.)
Agree, I hope only reason we are checking him out is making folks think we'll take him in 3rd and he ain't even on our board....funny season...time will tell.
Other part says he paid what law required...second chance. It is hard giving idiots second chances....then again, we parole killers.....how is want he did worse than that, they have done far worse, yet, blend into society...hard...GO Browns!!!

This doesn't make sense to me. Sorry. But if you forgive someone, then don't want them around, then what is the use of forgiving them? No body said you had to be buddies or anything, but I think he's sorry for what happened and it's time to move on.

Forgiving someone is not about them. It's about you. You don't have to want to be around someone who is in the wrong.
Again, Joe Mixon doesn't want forgiveness. He wants a job in the NFL (which he will get).
All of this to say, if Joe Mixon were on my favorite football team, I would still root for that team. I might even want him on the team.
I think he is the best back in the draft. He will probably be available with the first pick in the 3rd.
Now as far as would i want him on my team? He did it a couple years ago and he shouldnt be punished forever. He will lose a lot of money because of that and I would make it very clear in his contract that he is on a one mistake deal. He messes up with anything and he is gone.
He would also be required to attend anger management classes.
SOmeone will take him earlier than anticipated IMO. Talent trumps all else.
Had Ray Rice been 5 years younger a team would have given him another shot

cfrs answered it. It is a character flaw. Someone who can do this, can do it again. We drafted Gordon and JFF with thoughts of forgiveness and that they can change who they are. Certain characteristics are hard to change, and I would just as soon not be the ones banking on them getting straightened out.
When someone completes a prison sentence (the right way, and not from the presidential wheel-of-clemency) then they are to be treated as a regular member of society and be forgiven and all. But sex offenders have to register their address and stay away from schools and parks for the rest of their lives. Why is that? Because whatever it was that caused them to do it before can still be there, and the consequences of it resurfacing is too great to ignore.
Some people have badness in them. If they can control it, great. But how sure are we that they can?
I agree that a guy shouldn't have to give up football because of a mistake. But I still don't draft him. We are too weak to have a distraction like that.

I'm not wanting Peppers either, but if he had been able to refrain from hitting that kid after that loss then I'd be praising him for insane levels of will-power.
I wanted to deck that little punk, myself. Right up in Peppers' face. Screw that . . .
I don't want him. But then I didn't want JFF either. Once we drafted him, I rooted for him to succeed, but never liked him. If we draft Mixon, I'll root for him to succeed. But I won't like him. I certainly wouldn't want him to become the face of the team a la Ray Lewis.

Well for now, let's take our personal feelings out of this. Let's look at it from a business standpoint.
What kind of message does this send to the fan base?
What kind of message does it send to the children in our fan base?
What kind of PR does it get for our team?
When you bring people of questionable character onto your team, there are ramification that come with it. After Gordon and Manziel, this would only serve to add insult to injury.
Now if we had a team that was successful with strong veteran leadership, the impact may not be as bad. But we aren't.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

If Mixon is there in the 4th I would certainly draft him if he hasn't had any further incidents. People shouldn't be in jail forever for one mistake even as bad as it was. Is this his only incident or has he done other questionable things? Depending on the value talent wise he has when I am drafting I would draft him.
Does this guy help you beat Pittsburgh? Does this guy help you finish not in last place in the division. Does this guy help you win more than I don't even want to say how many games.
I don't know anything about his background check other than what I've read on dawgtalkers, the oft mentioned.
Yes, I want him on the team, if it means the team wins games.
Keep the main thing the main thing.
Besides, If he can't play I'm sure the commissioner will suspend him, despite any of my views of whether he should be on the team or not.
And! Only because, "Who was the 3rd runningback behind Crowell and Duke last year? If this guy's clearly a step above who was in that spot.
At 4:45 pm on Sunday Afternoon, after the Browns lose again, in any fashion. Do you feel elated at the morally upright characters of the players who walked off the field, while the coach is giving a losing post game speech?
Or do you feel like you just took your dog to the vet to have him put down again?
Don't ask me to be a character judge! I'm a Fan. = fanatic.
One has to be to still follow this poor poor performance over the last 23 years.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.
No. I get that they are checking him out, and maybe I might look at him as an UDFA, but that's about it.
Punching a woman in the face, hard enough to knock her out, is hard for me to get over. Now, I am a Christian, and I believe that the truly repentant should be forgiven, but man, that image still comes back to me.
Unfortunately, all too often we have seen where a really, really troubled football remains truly troubled, even after he becomes a pro.
Look at our own Josh Gordon. How many chances has he received? Was he worth the 2nd round investment it took to get him? If you would have asked me after his huge year, I would have said yes. After the past 2 3/4 years? Nope. Not even close.
The only way I take a chance on a really, really troubled guy like Mixon is if it is a ridiculously low investment. Even then I would have to think twice, thrice, and probably 100 times, and even then it would have to be as an UDFA. I would write such strict language into his contract that if he even breathes on a woman in anger, he's done.
Before I would even consider giving him a chance, I would want to see proof that he had voluntarily undergone intensive counselling.
Man, I just see it hard to ever envision him as a Cleveland Brown. He's a talent, sure, but what he did eliminates him from consideration for me ..... unless he really did, voluntarily, undergo seriously intense counselling. That's the only way I'd consider him,
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
I really don't give a damn about him, would rather avoid the possibility of drama. He did a scumbag thing as a freshman. Probably not the first time he was a punk-ass, maybe not the last. Just playing devils advocate here, but what if he's grown a lot up since his freshman year? Are there any recent reports of him 'mending his ways', so to speak? Are his coaches saying good things about him? Has he found God? (I've heard that helps)
I am a bit confused. People defend the Browns for passing on Dak because he got a bogus DUI, but they are okay w/the Browns drafting a guy who spit on and threw a devastating haymaker into the jaw of a female.

Why would you bring common sense into the discussion?

I don't want any man on our team that thinks punching a woman is OK. To me it shows a serious flaw in his character and is not worth the risk of signing him especially at a position we are already fine at. Crow and Duke will tear it up this season to be sure!
