And will continue to be until we show signs of life. Signing Pryor will help some by showing we will keep talent. Missing Jefferson, and to a lesser degreee Juszczyk, hurt, but there are other possibilities out there.

Former Vikings' OT Matt Kalil expected to sign with brother Ryan's Panthers if no snags in final talks, per sources. Kalil brother reunion.

Kevin Zeitler and Tony Jefferson among f...ign with Ravens

Kevin Zeitler and Tony Jefferson among free agents Browns have expressed interest in, but the latter set to sign with Ravens

By Mary Kay Cabot, cleveland.com
on March 08, 2017 t 10:30 PM

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns have expressed interest in Bengals guard Kevin Zeitler and Cardinals safety Tony Jefferson among other free agents, league sources have told cleveland.com.

Jefferson, however, is set to sign with the Ravens on Thursday, according to ESPN and NFL Network, which reported that he left more money on the table from the Browns.

Others on the Browns radar heading into free agency Thursday include Jaguars safety Johnathan Cyprien and Texans cornerback A.J. Bouye, who's expected to remain in the AFC South.

With Jefferson off the table, the Browns might make a harder push for Cyprien, who's started the past four seasons for the Jaguars.

Zeitler, 27, is a natural fit for the Browns because he played for coach Hue Jackson in Cincinnati and knows the system. But the five-year veteran, 27, won't come cheap.

According to spotrac.com, he'll command something in the neighborhood of five years, $57.9 million, for an average of about $11.5 million a year. That would put him right up there in terms of yearly average with nine-time Pro Bowler Joe Thomas. It would be tied for third-highest behind Joe Haden ($13.5 million) and Jamie Collins ($12.5 million).

Zeitler would likely step right in and start for the Browns at right guard, where incumbent John Greco is recovering from Lisfranc foot surgery. Left guard Joel Bitonio is recovering from the same surgery but expects to be ready for the season.

Zeitler has been a fixture for the Bengals at right guard since he was drafted in the first round out of Wisconsin in 2012. Multiple teams have been linked to Zeitler, including the Jaguars and Colts.

Zeitler recently told Sirius XM NFL radio, "I love Cincinnati, but I'm open to anything. It's an exciting time."

As for Jefferson, 25, the Browns had a legitimate shot to land him, but he opted for the Ravens instead. The Cardinals didn't want to pay him what he'll get on the open market. Spotrac.com estimated Jefferson's value at about $5.77 million a year, but a source told cleveland.com he's looking for at least $8 million a year coming off his first year as a full-time starter.

Jefferson started 14 of his 15 games in 2016, recording 96 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, and five passes defensed. Signed as an undrafted rookie out of Oklahoma in 2013, he started seven games in 2015 and eight in 2014.

Cyprien, 26, recorded 128 tackles, one forced fumble and four passes defensed in 2016.

Slowly but surely, the 49ers are at least adding a few viable NFLers to their skill corps. Juszczyk turns 26 in April.

That mother......

He is now the 11th highest paid running back in the league.

Stupid $ to throw at a FB. No wonder he signed.

Glennon to the Bears for 3 years / $43.5M.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...5-million-deal/

I don't know if that means no QB in the 1st round for the Bears this year or not. We'll probably know more when we hear how much of Glennon's contract is guaranteed.

Ridiculous spending, IMO. To me, this epitomizes why I hate FA spending.

Initial thoughts are... wow. I have a funny feeling the guaranteed money is not going to sway that either. Dude cashed in with nothing much on the JG homefront and Tyrod locking up a reconstructed deal. Romo and Cutler are the only other "legit" options.

I'm curious what they'll sign for after Glennon being granted numbers like that.

Wow. The QB market needs a correction when Mike Glennon can get this kind of money without really playing since before Winston.

Exactly, I agree. It's hard to sign someone when they have NO DESIRE to play here and will take LESS MONEY to play elsewhere. You can throw all the high dollar figures you want at someone, they don't want to come here they won't come here. Makes free agency darn near impossible. We were 1-15 and have no viable option at QB,what is enticing about that. I'd love to see some signings just don't expect as much as some of you do. An expression I've always hated but truly fits here is "it is what it is!!!"

I also like Hyde as an option at safety. Don't know anything re: Cyprien though. I think the draft has more options at free safety but I would love me some Jamal Adams and Budda Baker.

Can't believe this wasn't mentioned yet, Elvis Dumervil was released and is available.

He'd be a great situational pass rusher and mentor in the locker room guy if the price would be right.

I get frustration. On the flip-side, I equally hate pity-parties. Reality check and keeping it real is all I was stating.

Nothing Browns do in FA will make this team playoff caliber. Keeping building is all I ask.

Maybe a big signing? Zeitler has made the most sense to me in terms of allocating big FA dollars. Perhaps we have another signing in the works too.

Someone on twitter speculated Hightower and Zeitler.

IMO, I'd take Zeitler and one other impact guy

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the deal will go through "barring any final snags." Arguably the best corner available, it is somewhat shocking to see Gilmore land with the Patriots, who usually do not shop near the top of the market. It is possible he took something of a discount to sign with his former AFC East rivals. With Gilmore signing in New England, free agent CB Logan Ryan will certainly be looking for a new home. The future of free agent LB Dont'a Hightower is also in doubt.

More misinformation.

BB didn't let Collins leave. He traded him.

The trade is for a third-round compensatory pick if the Browns are awarded one, a source told ESPN's Pat McManamon. If the Browns don't get that pick from the league, the trade is for a fourth-round pick, the source said.

With the signing of Stephon Gilmore and departing with Collins and Jones, does this mean BB is switching gears assembling a Seattle type defense.

Maybe u oughta keep up ...

He traded him from a SUPER BOWL CONTENDER because he was a POS and he didn't want him on his football team ...

If he lost him in FA ... i think he would have gotten the same pick if he let him walk via FA ... its right there in the trade summary u posted ... they would have gotten the same compensatory 3rd rnd pick we got if he let him play out the season and leave via FA ..

Keep up and PAY ATTENTION to what u post ... *L* ...

I don't think so. I think he recognizes the importance of having a good secondary in today's passing league. I was listening to talk radio yesterday on the way to Charleston and they were talking about how NE acquired Rowe from Philly last year.

They used him quite a bit in certain games just to match up w/a particular receiver and in other games he might be inactive. I think BB really likes to match-up w/what the other team does best. That is why in some weeks their base is a 3-4 and others they play a base 4-3.

I also think he traded Collins because the latter wasn't buying into and/or fitting into the New England way.
