I really like Obi as a prospect, and he certainly has such an upside, but can't fathom taking him at 33.
I just clicked your post in reference to this kid.
He might be a classic sparq riser. The difference between him and Garrett is that Garrett has tape. I am not sure he does....
Well, just because I hadn't heard of him doesn't mean others had not. In a quick check of CBS sports big board position rankings, he is listed as the #3 SS. I assume these ranking haven't been update since the combine, so evidently he has more tape then I started to question.
He lists as a first/second rounder. He may have just punched his 1st round ticket. Good for him.
I suspet that if he does land in round 2, we would need to take him with the first pick of the round. It doesn't seem possible he drops in to the 50's of the draft.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
0 missed tackles? Works to get off or around blocks? Took good angles?
I really don't know what it is you see at times. Seriously. This reminds me of when you and I were discussing the Brown's safety play early in the season and you were acting like I was nuts for questioning their play.
It's easy to sharp shoot, but let's time stamp these issues out then and see where the differences of opinion are? That way we can talk actual plays and not general impressions.
I am going to pass on this conversation. I am not going to write down the actual times. People don't even read those kinds of posts. It's why I don't reply to your film breakdown posts.
I am not saying that in an insulting way. I think it is a noble idea and I love the depth of it. I just don't think it translates to a message board for a couple of reasons. People watch the tape. Then, they click off of that and go and read comments. They might see something like: "at the 5:53 mark, he takes a poor angle to the ball." They can't remember the play w/the exact timing.
For it to work, we would have to be able to be watching tape together and then stop the tape and point out what we see. Going by memory doesn't work.
Now, if you wanna just make this an argument and thump your chest because I didn't point out the actual plays, go ahead and be my guest.
There are several posters on this board who don't like me, but I don't think anyone other than Memphis who will say that I make things up or that I try and deceive other posters. I try to be as honest as I can when I evaluate players/teams.
I have no problem if you disagree w/me, but I was not impressed by his game tape. And ed, I really wanted to be impressed because I was excited about his Combine numbers.
I was using both games. I clearly remember him doing a poor job of avoiding blocks and having a hard time of getting off of the blocks. I remember him having a hard time wrapping up and how he kinda slid down on some tackles.

Specifically from the South Florida game you said that my charting of the game was 'whacked' and questioned:
0 missed tackles?
Works to get off or around blocks?
Took good angles?
All I'm asking is for the time stamps of the plays that you think contradict my observations.
And I already told you that I am not doing it. I tried to explain why I would not.
Again, if you wanna say that I am making things up.......go ahead. You win.
However, I will apologize for the comments from last night about being whacked. I was wrong to post it that way. I was frustrated w/the Browns and lashed out. I'm sorry.

Fair enough.
And btw, I'm not trying to 'win' an argument on an internet message board.
I have genuine interest in what you may have observed that I may have missed and was offering to post the gif/vids of the plays in question. When at all possible that is how I prefer to discuss football, in as specific terms as possible.
I would love to sit down and actually go through game tapes w/you, but it's impossible on a message board.
Like I said earlier, I love the intent of your Tape Breakdown threads, but it's too hard for me to follow because when a person says a player does this at a certain point, I don't have that tape right in front of me at that particular moment in time.
And again, that is not an insult in any shape or form. I respect the fact that you are trying to bring some legitimacy to your claims.

No worries.
And just in case there is something getting lost in translation: I am offering to alleviate the problem bolded in your post, like I've done in the QB threads to post the actual 3-7s video images of the plays in question. So that way there is an actual live video reference point.

102s the receiver does gain yards after the catch. Also you can't throw a stop route 'in stride' because the receiver is stationary but Watson does hit him in rhythm.
Also #13 is the 1st read in the progression on this play but its not single read play. And Its a similar concept to play 36s: where you see Watson turns down #13 running a quick hitch/stop route on the frontside progression and throws a strike to the backside, from a muddy that hits #7 in stride.

1:11 Again disagree with your view of his mechanics on this play, he does step into the throw. Also, I think Watson puts the ball where he wants it on this play. Williams does not win on the go route. He does not separate from #12 on this throw. For many QBs/coaches this is a throw that should be turned down. BUT Watson makes a throw that beats the coverage, instead of leading the WR up the sideline he's throws it short and gives his receiver (who is a beast) a chance to make play. BUT giving your WR a chance to make a play when they are covered also leads to INTs when they don't make the play. Good throw...great catch.

127s Another example of a full field read. Plaction, read rightside first resets his feet to throw the backside go route. Watson misses this throw by a nose hair against good coverage (and there was possibly a lil bit of contact). Again, I don't see the bad technique you see.
But, again. No worries, fair enough if we're not doing it.
