Wonder what he wants for this guy .. he'd be one hell of a get ...

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Patriots are still shopping Malcolm Butler.

Bulter wasn't part of New England's package for Brandin Cooks, but the Saints "could consider a trade later on." The Patriots can't afford to extend Butler after signing Stephon Gilmore. A restricted free agent, Butler is set to make just $3.91 million in the final year of his contract.

I really thought he would be part of the deal w/New Orleans. I'm surprised they gave up those picks.

Seems out of character.

The Pats are getting better. If they did nothing this off season they would be the favorites in the AFC. They are head and shoulders above everyone else.

Just spit balling, but the cooks trade seems to single that the patriots might be going all in for one last year with Brady. ***maybe*** Brady told them straight up that this season is his final season. It would make sense why they gave up those picks for cooks, as well as setting unrealistic trade standard for Jimmy g.

As far as butler, it would be nice to have butler, and play him on the other end of Haden. But we gave Taylor an extension. I'm not up on how corners play in different roles, but is taylor more of an outside guy or can he play the inside nickel as well?

Those picks must suck since Bill traded them. Buyer beware. NE only gets rid of things that have no value. When has a draft pick traded by NE ever amounted to anything?

I had the same thought earlier tonight. That or spend a 2nd round pick on the Penn State WR Chris Godwin,

More of a trade thing than a free agent .... but there are reports that the Pats might make a deal (with the Saintss, perhaps) for Pats RFA CB Malcolm Butler.

If he became available, would there be any interest in the Browns trading for him, and if so, what do you think that price tag would be, and should the Browns do such a deal?

I hope this isn't trolling, as Brownholic accuses me of, but I will respond to your question.

I don't think we should trade for a corner. I think this year's corner and safety class is outstanding.

I like how the Browns addressed the OL in FA because this year's OL class isn't that great.

I hope that they use their resources to get either Jimmy G or Cousins.

I hope they get Garrett in the draft and also address the secondary.

Hope others don't think I am trolling by posting these remarks. I am very concerned about that after Brownaholic's remarks. smirk

I think hat Butler is a talented kid, and as an RFA, he should be open to a longer term contract. (because that's why he hasn't signed his tender) Trading for him doesn't mean that we can't also add talent from the draft. We also do have a trading relationship with the Pats.

They tagged him with a 1st round tender, but that doesn't mean that's what they would take for him. We got Collins for a 3rd. If we could do a similar type of deal for Butler, I think that I'd be for it.

I also don't think you were, by responding, in any way, trolling. I don't get why anyone would.

Good points.

I don't think NE would give away Butler as cheap as they did Collins. No proof, just a feeling. I think Collins was not buying into the Patriot way. Thus, he had to go.

YTown..........I am not arguing w/you, I am just saying that this year's draft class of secondary players is outstanding. I don't think we could get Butler for a 3rd. However, if that were true........sure, let's go for it.

And sorry about the BS about the troll crap. Just sick of guys like Brownaholic saying crap like that!

OMG ... this is going to be unfair ... Nelson, Adams, Cobb and now this guy with Rodgers pulling the trigger ... they seriously don't even need a RB .. *L* ..

Packers signed TE Martellus Bennett to a three-year, $21 million contract.

Bennett's fate in New England was sealed as soon as the Patriots traded for Dwayne Allen. Now he's headed to Green Bay where he'll fill the void left by Jared Cook. Bennett's counting stats were impressive last season (55 catches, 701 yards, seven touchdowns) but he didn't look quite as explosive as we've seen him in years past. He dealt with a variety of injuries and is expected to undergo ankle surgery this offseason. Still, Bennett is a big body and a matchup terror inside the red zone. It's a big pickup for the Cheeseheads.

I agree. We will be able to draft gys in the 3rd round who will have 2nd round grades. Guys in the 2nd round with 1st round grades. You could probably grade up a round headed in to the 5th-6th round.

We can draft a couple of good corners or corner/safety combo.

This would be a good year to draft 3 players in that position group.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

I don't agree with you two .. Butler's a really good proven NFL CB ... I'd give up a 2nd for him in a heartbeat ... i could give a crap about draft grades ...

This is HUGE ... this is much bigger than this writer is saying ...

Its not FA but it seemed like a good place to put it ...

Doug Free - T - Cowboys

Doug Free announced his retirement from the NFL after 10 seasons.

This comes only a week after coach Jason Garrett insisted Free would be back for another season. The 33-year-old was a fixture in Dallas for the past decade, starting every game he played since 2010. Perhaps the Cowboys would have approached free agency differently if they knew Free was going to hang up his cleats. Certainly they would have made a more concerted effort to re-sign Ronald Leary, who just put pen to paper on a long-term deal with Denver. The Cowboys' line is still one of the league's strongest, but Free's absence will be felt.

Broncos sign Domata Peko

Posted by Zac Jackson on March 11, 2017, 4:43 PM EST

Longtime Bengals defensive tackle Domata Peko is signing with the Broncos, Mike Klis of News9 in Denver reported.

Peko, 32, has played his entire 11-year career in Cincinnati. He hasn’t missed a game or a start since 2009.

Klis reported that Peko will get $3.8 million guaranteed on a two-year deal that’s worth as much as $7.5 million.

Peko has 18.5 career sacks. He had a career-best five sacks in 2015 but didn’t have any last season. The Bengals are going with a youth movement, while the Broncos hope Peko can fortify their defensive front. Peko’s cousin, Kyle Peko, was a rookie nose tackle who played in one game for the Broncos last season.

Does that mean Cincy has lost 3 of their starting OL? Maybe they'll take Erving?

I saw WR Kendall Wright signed with the Bears...I totally forgot he even was a FA..He had a ton of talent and would always beat Haden, then again who didn't lol...But I know Wright had some nagging hammy injuries...I always thought Corey Coleman reminded me of him.

Yea, but if they won't trade us Garropolo we could stick it to them by taking another of their better players. And I think we could use all the good players we can get. But that's just me.

And then what? We force one our better players (Kirksey) to the bench out of spite. That doesn't seem wise.

Fluker was once really close to being an elite RG...Injuries has been a weak spot...and moving him to RT didn't help him as normally a guards weakness is speed and inability to work an island.

Yeah I remember a lot liking him here on the board. I think he would have been a nice pick-up...he could have showed Corey Coleman what not to apply to a hammy injury lol But kidding aside, our trio of wideouts would have looked better. perhaps we will focus on the draft...Then again I think this FO may not want to admit to drafting a WR when we drafted 4 last year.
