Earlier this week, I made a tongue in cheek post about I hoped that the Browns would re-sign Pryor if for no other reason than mac would be going on and on about how the FO/Haslam don't keep their own players and dozens and dozens of other posters would be bashing Pryor and defending the FO w/vigor.

And sure enough.............here we are.

What about the selfish quotes where his Ohio State teammates want nothing to do with him? That is pretty telling. College teammates are usually the most loyal to each other because that is where it was still a game for them and not a business.

Hue did go along way to resurrect Pryor's career that is not in question. Pryor's pride caused him to take less money elsewhere because he could not come back with his tail between his legs.

Whatever man. Whining and crying about what a terrible person Pryor is solves nothing. We are worse off as a team than we would be if he was here.

We can go back and forth w/nonsense. I could say stuff like "look how the Browns treated K. Williams. They don't care about their players."

What does it solve? Absolutely nothing.

You guys complain about mac all the time, but you are just as bad. And again..............there are way more of you than there are of him.

I agree his talent is a loss. But, as his ex teammates say the Browns dodged a bullet because he has a history of being a selfish, me first personality that it hurts teams.

I think that article was pretty awful.

Here's what else I think:

1. It's not possible to know if we are better off or worse off without Pryor because we don't know if he was going to continue to get better as a WR. He basically caught two routes last year, come back and quick slant. I don't think he beat his guy deep once. Not exactly a lot to build on. I think he's still a huge question mark.

2. From everything that's been reported, it appears the FO negotiated in good faith and offered a fair or even better than market deal. I'm not sure what else the FO could have done.

3. Pryor is betting on himself. I can't fault him for that. I can't fault the FO either. I don't think there's any blame in this situation. It just is what it is.

What's done is done. Pryor is gone.... flush TP. I wanted to keep him, we'd be better today if he'd signed.
We can trot Rice and Fred Belitnikoff out there and it won't mean much without a QB.

Just to be clear. I am not bashing or blaming the FO.

Just sick of all the stupid whining about what a turd Pryor is. Those guys are just as bad as mac. It just doesn't bother most people because they are posting from a homeric [so what if it isn't a real word...LOL] point of view.

Sorry, no one is as bad as mac. I know you like to stick up for the minority, but there really is no defense of mac. He's literally off the deep end. Whenever I see guys act like him on a message board, I like to give them the benefit of the doubt that they are just trolling the board. That they are sitting back laughing after each post as they watch the reaction of the rest of the board and getting a kick out of it. Because the alternative is the person is being themselves and actually believes what they are typing. And that's just too bizarre to be real.

Homeric is a real word. It is a writing in the style of the epics of Homer.

Maybe not the meaning you were going for though. lol

I think that it's natural for people to be upset when either someone leaves, or they feel that someone was forced out.

In this case, I think that it was just one of those things. I think that there is a part of this situation where Pryor wanted to go to a team with a better QB situation, so he could put up huge numbers to prepare for next year, and a part of his who wanted to return to the Browns, but who could not go back and admit defeat. (in his eyes) Pryor has one overriding trait in his career, and that is that he has been driven from the word go. He wanted to be a QB, until literally every team told him to be a WR instead. He then attacked being a WR, and turned himself into a receiver who is capable and more.

I think that the situation just turned in such a way that he didn't want to be seen as tucking his tail and coming back. So he decided to bet on himself. Nothing wrong there. I just think that it is part of his personality that caused big parts of the situation.

I think that we were stronger with him then we are now. We'll see how the WR position evolves this season. Hopefully our young receivers saw how Pryor attacked the off-season, to make himself into a really pretty good receiver, and decide to do the same.

I don't mind that Pryor left. I think he made a big mistake, but nobody ever said the guy was smart. I hope it works out for him.

He did what he felt he needed to do. Time to move on for him, time to move on for us.

From what I have read, we were more than fair with TP. I wanted him to sign with us but now after reading this article I'm not too sad to see he left. Sounds like he is a me guy not a team player. That's not what the Browns need trying to build.

The final judgement on the Pryor deal will take place after the 2017 season.

That is when we find out if "analytics" valued Pryor's worth accurately...or not.

At this moment, it seems our FO was fairly accurate in what the marketplace deemed fair value. Perhaps we were a touch on the high side. Pryor/agent asking price no way reflected what the marketplace was willing to pay...

Kenny Britt is more than a capable replacement for TP. The only thing imo is that KB has probably reached his potential while we don't know if TP will get any better. That is the unknown factor at this point. It remains to be seen. We also have 3 or 4 young guys that could step up for us and produce.

Wow! Reading is hard.

You said this:

Quote:
We were 1-15 with the players we had, 1-15. You keep saying the FO won't sign our own players yet those players were 1-15

So, I said to read my sig. I quote Joe Thomas and he addresses the 1 and 15 thing.

Please tell us now what will-be your baseline when making that end-of-season evaluation.

It appears that we offered nearly 50% more than did Washington and TP didn't bother coming back to our offer.

So...he needs to perform 50% better than any other $6 million WR just to be exactly what our analytics suggested? Also, meaning he has to out-perform all $6 million WRs by 50% just to be at breakeven.

I wish were able to keep him...but HE'S the turd in this punch bowl though.

Nope - the verdict is out.

The Browns and the FO valued Pryor higher than any other team in the NFL and offered him more money than any other team in the NFL.

This FO this free agency period valued Pryor higher than any other FO or NFL team. Period. End of story. There is nothing else to be said. Your "argument" that the FO were cheap or didn't value him is complete and total nonsense.

Pryor's value TODAY has zero to do with his value a year from now.

In a world of football talk where so much is about opinion and people's thoughts/assumptions/preferences ..... this is a 'debate' where you are stone cold flat out wrong. Move on. A player's value is what people will pay for his services. Browns offered Pryor more than any other team. They were not cheap.

Why does there have to be a turd in this situation? Y'all just love assigning blame to one side and protecting the other side. I don't really put blame on either side. It's a freaking business. Things like this happen.

To give you an analogy .... I can decide my house is worth $5 million and put it on the market tomorrow for sale at $5 million.

I can tell myself that my house is worth $5 million.

I can tell myself people are being cheap if they offer me less than $5 million.

The reality is that the value of my house is what someone will offer me for it. END OF STORY.

Pierre Garcon signed a signed a five-year, $47 million deal with the 49ers...

Garcon is 30 yrs old
6'.0"...211 lbs
entering 10th season
9.4 mill/yr
20 mill guaranteed

Terrelle Pryor is 27 yrs old
6'-4"...235 lbs
entering 3rd season as wr
The Browns claim they offered Pryor $32 million over four years.
8.o mill/yr ...
17 mill guaranteed

Garcon's 2016 stats were nearly identical to Pryors. Pryor has a lot less miles on his legs than Garcon or Britt for that matter.

Pryor hasn't had any knee surgeries and has the ability to stretch the field with his speed. Pryor's career is still on the upswing while the same cannot be said for Garcon or Britt.

Phyically Pryor is bigger, stronger with good hands with no injury history to affect his speed and his ability to be a #1 wr.

...so did the Browns value Pryor based on his "Potential"...or do the Browns simply use an analytics formula and slot all WRs based on the previous year's performance, with no consideration of potential?

I believe that question was answered when the Browns simply offered the same reported contract to Britt.

I'm sure Pryor's agents believe Pryor will only get better and be more valuable to his team, so signing a 1yr deal might be best for a player who sees his career as on the upswing.

I agree it's a business and people shouldn't blame a player for trying to maximize their earnings when they can.

That said - I read most of these posts where the FO is exonerated and Pryor 'blamed' like WSU Willie's as being posters getting frustrated with Mac and his stance more, I don't actually believe that Willie thinks Pryor is a turd or deserves blame. jmo

I'm not willing to lump these player situations together as are some posters (not saying that's you). He pledged allegiance to the Browns and Hue. We gave him a dramatically better offer than the one he decided to sign.

NOW some people (again not necessarily you) are assigning blame and thinking the punch tastes like a turd. Those same people are trying to pin THIS punchbowl taste situation on the FO. When it's pretty clear IMO that Pryor is to blame for Pryor not being here...NOT the FO. The FO went above-and-beyond any other team to try and keep him.

I agree that we'd have a better team of football players if he were on the team. But HE decided to leave and for less money.

Sorry, didn't understand what exactly you where talking, read it a little to quickly, about, way to degrade someone for that by the way, typical you I guess.

But you completely missed my point, my point was there are players on this team that can be improved upon. And I understand what Thomas is saying, but you also need to improve the roster. Which they have IMO with the new free agents.

While losing Pryor may not have been ideal, his production won't be that difficult to replace. I could see the guys we have on the roster right now making up for the catches, yards, and TDs. Without adding anybody else, which the FO may or may not do, that remains to be seen.

Thats fair Willie ... and i understand if blame is to be assigned that it clearly was TP'S FAULT ... thats CLEAR ... no sane person would dispute that ... once again I'm amazed and amused as to why anyone is indulging mac's FO bashing ... u guys are trying to convince the OBVIOUSLY UNCONVINCABLE ONE that we should of out bid ourselves ... think about that for a sec ... *L* ..... and I wanted TP back ...

with that said ... i don't "blame" either side ...

U understand why he did it even if u don't agree with it ... and that even though he decided to sign with the skins it was not his "fault" because there is no "bad guy" in this ... Wash is the PERFECT STORM for a one year prove it WR ... just like Brock was a PERFECT STORM for us ...

Does that make sense? ... he CHOSE to gamble on himself, and its a HUGE ASS GAMBLE that I can respect ... he didn't leave simply to screw us and leave, he left cause he made the choice to bet on himself ... and the result of that choice was that he had to leave here for the perfect storm ... make sense now? ..

With that said .. i think the guys am POC ... thought that before he went to college and I've seen nothing to change my mind since ... he is also driven and works his ass off ...

I predict a very good season for him and he gets paid if he stays healthy ... I'm hoping he SUCKS and signs for 4 mill the following year cause hes a JERK AS A PERSON ... that has nothing to do with this decision ..

Keeping ALL the same players from a 1-15 team is not the way to improve a team. I don't think we'd see a DRAMATIC improvement by doing so, do you?

And your response "LOL....okay." was condescending, whether you meant it to be or not....
