All is quiet on the Northern front.

I think we are pulling our draft picks back and should just keep mum with the Pats/BB and let them contact us. Time to work out other plans not starting w/Initials JG.

won't surprise me at all...been saying that for a couple of months. We still would have 3 impact picks in a very deep draft.

It might happen. Who do you target at #12? Do you try to get trade back up with any of the other picks?

No ... down is the way to go in this draft ... u want more picks, not less in a deep draft ...

No need to move up from 12 ... someone good's going to fall to U ...

Possibly Barnett or if one of the 3 stud DBs are there - especially if we created a run on the QBs.

Lattimore, Adams or Hooker (3stud DBs).

or OJ being the only O guy to consider.

Personally...it might be best to give a short term Contract to Cutler. See if Trubisky lands at 12. If so cut Hogan. Take it from there.

But if Hue is SOLD on Tribusky...I won't blink an eye if we take him #1.

The only issue with having so many picks ... we can't keep them all. We kept 12 or 14 rookies last year. I'd rather trade up and target 3 or 4 first round talents that fall into the 2nd round, than keep the mid round picks and hope to find the gems in best players after 70+ players are off the board. Last years WR's and mid-late round picks didn't inspire confidence.

I used to like Cutler. I don't want him on the team now. . . I'd be happy with any of those players at 12. I really think OJ Howard will be special but I'd really hate to go QB, TE ... in a draft so deep at great Defensive talent AND with a team that needs so much defensive help.

chapter 7 LOL

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

If we don't land Garoppolo using 12 I'm taking GARRETT at 1 then I'm using some of our ammo to move up for Hooker. Jets indicated #6 is for sale for those same Extra picks you mentioned.

We don't need more picks. Use what we have for IMPACT.

I'LL be shocked beyond belief if we take Trubisky at #1. Not with 13 lousy starts. We're NOT passing on a GARRETT for that. And I love Trubisky.

We pass on Garrett for Trubisky we deserve to be the laughing stock of the league yet again.

I would have been interested by Foles but not Daniels.

I just don't get the infatuation with Garrett.

He is a DL. He is very poor value at the #1 overlal spot.

He is the greatest risk of:

1. Getting hurt
2. missing time getting hurt
3. only has one move, and one move isn't enough in the NFL
4. is light in the rear end for this division.
5. Is most likely a liability in the running game
6. Sets a very poor edge in college and will get manhandled in the pros
7. In a division with 3 teams with very good running games, he is a poor fit.

I mean seriously.

The last two DL taken #1 overall were Courtney Brown and Mario Willaims

Both of them busts

Mario Williams had 2 decent years in Texas, but the team sucked, he made no impact at all on their W/L column. He later went to Buffallo an dhad a few decent years, again even with his double digit sacks, the team still sucked and never made the post season.

Courtney Brown had all the talent in the world and was just hurt all the time and the team still sucked when he was on the field.

Garrett will be the same thing....even if he do take him, even if he gets 15 sacks his rookie year, the team will be lucky to win 4 games without a QB and everything will reset again...odds are though Garrett will suck royally in the pros, all the guys with big time hype always suck in NFL, they believe too much in their own press clippings....and then get crushed in the NFL

If i was Hue i'd take a Qb and you know...actually try and win more then 4 games, but thats just me...

That this was about Jimmy G. not fantasies about how the 2nd to 3 most important position on a team(Left OT is up there but we have Joe still) has no value at #1 when there are no real QBs to be drafted. I guess some people would just draft a garbage QB just to draft one instead of building a team with talent so that any decent QB could step in and do well.

Not sure if you have poor eyesight, but it says JG Chapter 7, rather than MG Chapter 7.

Great post, sure does make a lot of sense. I would have absolutely no problem with Mitch at #1, because if you don't have a QB in this league, then you basically have nothing! Just my 2 cents.

Nah, he hates JG, too.

I think he wants us to draft Trub w/the first overall.

Check out his facts, though. Especially the one about D-linemen being the first overall pick. LOL

I don't hate Mitch but he is a project QB with very little playtime experience even at the college level. That is not a #1 overall prospect. There is no way he has played enough to be able to reliably read an NFL defense. He would have made a great second or third round developmental pick though.

Ahhh ... Courtney Brown was a bust and Mario Williams didn't make much of an impact? Dang. Your right we should avoild DL high in the draft!!

Of course - we should never draft a QB high either. Ryan Leaf and Jamarcus Russel are proof of that. Same logic as you used right.

As for your "Facts". First on the list - DL get injured more than any other position?

http://www.profootballlogic.com/articles/nfl-injury-rate-analysis/

Nahhhh. Not so.

Garret has only one move? Hmmmm - here are the first three bullet points on the scouting report I have access to:

-Can win any way as a pass-rusher. Has the burst to challenge the edge and the power to put offensive tackles on skates
-Also works the inside counter well, won to the inside just as much as he won to the outside
-Even distribution of pass-rushing wins: 20 outside, 20 inside, 10 bull rush

I'd say your argument doesn't withstand a lot of scrutiny. Maybe MG will flame out and be a bust. Maybe he'll get hurt preseason and never play a down. . . . but right now he's the best player, highest ceiling, least risk player at the 2nd most impactful position on a football team.

While MG is probably the consensus No 1 guy.. I also understand playing devil's advocate when it comes to putting anyone on a pedestal such as Miles has been placed. Anyone remember Vernon Gholston ? His Pre-draft hipe was off the charts, blew up the combine, All the analysts were slobering all over this guy. He went to the Jets and was one of the biggest bust in NFL history. In 3 years with the Jets he had ZERO sacks and hardly even showed on the stat sheets. He was released and tried to catch on with 3 other teams but never played again. NOTHING is for sure.. All we can do is try to minimize it and weigh the risks in proportion to the position of need.

Additionally...

I have seen 2 knocks on Garrett's game; 1) that he isn't that good against the run, and 2) that his sack stats went down in 2016 and he often seemed to take plays off.

But..PFF rated him the 45th for college DEs against the run in 2015 when he had his best sacks stats. They rated him 3rd against the run in 2016. Could it be that the reason his sack stats when down, and he appeared to take plays off is that, in a conscious effort to improve his game vs. the run, he was staying home sealing off the back side instead of chasing the plays going the other way? Isn't failure to set the edge one of our biggest problems?
