What's the point of having Lacy?
I'd love to sign a veteran wide receiver, it's pretty rough to have to rely on four second year players. Someone like Kamar Aiken would be great.
On defense, someone who knows what they are doing at safety would be nice. I am just not sure there is a player like that that would fit our team. I think Tony Jefferson was that guy, but we missed on him.

Not sure we dip in to the next tier. I think we still stick to the build through the draft template.
We hit O-line hard because we were weak and the draft class isn't all that good. We made a play for the safety, but he went elsewhere. At this point, we probably feel we can get what we need in the draft, but you never know, we make make a play at a player or two.

I'd definitely take Hankins for our Dline..
I liked Hodges coming out of college..would love to add him as well...from what I hear his light is finally coming on the past year for the 49ers.

We've got some slobberknockers in the middle of the line, why not use them and Lacy will come cheap. Supposedly he is working hard in the offseason and at his best he is like trying to tackle a tank. I agree on the safeties and think me might need to find them in the draft. Kamar Aiken would be a great choice at WR in my opinion, I didn't think of him. Kevin Minter ILBer. He'd be relegated to short yardage situations. Signing with a team where he'd be getting more regular carries would be much smarter for him. I really don't see him as option at all. Here's info from an article: Thee has been a mysterious lack of information about free-agent interest in defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins. A source indicates, though, that there is a market developing for the New York Giants’ 2013 second-round draft pick. I’m told that the NFC East-rival Philadelphia Eagles have been showing Hankins “lots of love” in the event they lose their own free-agent defensive tackle, Bennie Logan. The Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos and Cleveland Browns are also said to have interest. You can also add the Oakland Raiders to the list. Hankins, a run-stuffing 6-foot-3, 320-pound player who will only be 25 next season, should draw a handsome paycheck in what has thus far been a free-spending free-agent market. The Giants have limited cap space, under $10 million per estimates without the Rhett Ellison contract even being included, so they will have difficulty competing with rich long-term offers for Hankins. Yes he is and pretty awesome, so is Dontario Poe I believe. Nobody seems to be bidding on the NT's or maybe they are both asking for the bank. I don't think teams want to pay big money for part time players. Poe played 73% of snaps last year, Hankins played 69%. (Nice.)

I don't know...........if you can't stop the run, you're screwed. The game is very situational right now. A vast majority of defensive players who are in the front seven are situational players.

Hankins is coming off injury...that's why I think his market has been quiet...prior to that he was making noise as on of the young emerging studs at DT in the league. I'd welcome him with open arms...as we need to be able to improve that front for us to have a chance.

Luke Wilson with out much production has got a ton of athletic ability, 27 years old
Datone Jones could see him playing all up and down the line as a reserve

Per Giardi, Butler is "extremely frustrated" by the Patriots' willingness to trade him and commitment to Stephon Gilmore as one of the NFL's highest-paid cornerbacks. The Patriots wanted to deal Butler to New Orleans, but could not because Butler refused to sign his one-year restricted tender. One way the Pats could appease Butler is by giving him a big contract. That ship may have sailed, however, due to the money they invested in Gilmore.

Free agent LB Dont'a Hightower is visiting the Jets.
Hightower began his visit on Sunday and it is expected to wrap up on Monday. Clearly rebuilding, the Jets' interest in a 27-year-old linebacker with injury concerns is questionable at best, and it is possible Hightower is just using them to goad the Patriots into a better deal. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Hightower has also visited the Titans, but both teams are convinced he will ultimately end up back in New England.

Eagles signed Nick Foles, formerly of the Chiefs, to a two-year, $11-million contract.
The deal includes $7 million guaranteed. Foles will be nothing more than a backup in his return to Philadelphia after a two-year hiatus, but this move is interesting because of what it could mean for Chase Daniel. The Eagles were openly trying to trade their (former?) backup before free agency, and bringing in Foles suggests they are close to a deal. Philly could also decide to cut Daniel, but that would net them just $1 million in cap space.

What is Butlers RFA tender? what is the compensation??? It's steep, first round. But that dude is a solid corner. NE tried to trade him to the Saints I think, so he obviously would like to find a new home.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports free agent LB Dont'a Hightower will visit the Steelers.
Hightower has already visited the Titans and Jets, but both teams reportedly left the meeting assuming he would re-sign with the Patriots. The Steelers do have a need at linebacker after letting Lawrence Timmons walk, but this entire adventure seems like an effort to drive up the Pats' offer.

The Steelers would have to get pretty clever with the cap to sign Hightower. He reportedly wants "Jamie Collins money" and the Steelers only have $19 million in cap space. I bet Hightower ends up back in New England.

I don't think the Steelers will be able to pay Hightower.
Losing Timmons is a devastating blow to their team. Guy is a very underrated player. He can play all three downs and is a physical presence.
Who did he sign with? Miami?

Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reports free agent CB Malcolm Butler "wants to make it work in New England."
Howe adds Butler does not plan to hold out if he is forced to play the season under the first-round tender, which will pay $3.91 million. All of this disputes a report from CSN New England's Mike Giardi, who said Butler wants out of Foxboro. Howe did say Stephone Gilmore's contract was a "gut punch" to Butler and the corner "has received interest from several teams." Whether it happens this year or next, this situation seems to be headed toward divorce.

It's not that much of a loss. He was average, at best. I'd say below average compared to other starters.... eminently replaceable with just about any draft pick.
