We were just fooling around about all these 1st and 2nds, right dawgs? I know you are joking, but I don't think we've offered them anything, let alone a first round pick. The only thing I saw reported on what we offered was our #52 in 2017 and a 3rd rounder in 2018. I think if we offered #12...BB would have jumped on that and LAUGH all the way to the bank.
Listen their replacement for Brady is going to be drafted in 2018 in what appears to be a rather strong QB draft class.
That is why I think if we offer him #52 and up the 2018 to one of our 3 seconds and our 3rd round pick...it will be a done deal.
It would give BB a draft pick in 2017 for the 1st 2 rounds which he wants. And Ammo to move up to the back of the first or move up with their first to get the QB they are targeting.
This way said QB will be there for 2 years as Brady plays out his contract and be ready to take over in 2020.

I agree with most of what you said about QBs in the NFL. That doesn't mean you give up two firsts and two seconds for a QB who has played six quarters and has one year left on his contract. That is ridiculous.

Jimmy G. has the skill set of a franchise level QB.
But he's not a Franchise QB yet, he's a back-up with 2 NFL games under his belt. He's on the last year of his contract and if he refuses to sign long term with the BROWNS you pay him tag money and after 3 years he's free to re-sign with the Pats after Brady retires. 2016 second and 2018 second is all the risk is worth.

Does anyone believe Jimmy Garopolo would win in Cleveland?
I mean win more percentage wise than say RG3 would have or Trent Dilfer would have?
Personally I don't want any former Patriots, I wouldn't want Tom Brady if he were 5 years younger, because I still don't think he'd win in Cleveland, because you can't convince me he'd care. So for that, I Don't think any of them are worth 2 first round picks. Unless you're the other team getting the picks.
And how hard is it to write out Jimmy Garoppolo, I keep being not sure whether this title is about Josh Gordon, or whomever?
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

The contract is a non issue because there is no way a blockbuster trade is made like that without a new contract being signed. So let's just stop the nonsense with that pretend issue.
Jimmy would absolutely win more games with us that rg3 did. I don't know what that total would be this year but with Jimmy and Garrett I could easily guess an improvement to 7-9 to 9-7 THIS year. He would shred defenses trying to stack the line against Crow and Duke.

2016 second and 2018 second is all the risk is worth. Agreed. Our second 2nd rounder this year and one of our 2nd rounders next would be the price I'd be willing to accept. Of course, it may take more than this but that is not a risk (nor value) that I'd be willing to take...

Really, to play a game? Ok, I guess that's a topic for another thread but your wrong. You need to face reality. No matter what QB you pick up there is a certain risk. Even more so with a rookie who has never played in the NFL period. Teams GLADLY trade 2 firsts for even a CHANCE to draft a franchise QB. Just look at how many picks our team alone has wasted on QBs(none that I would have taken except prob Couch). You pay the piper if you want a decent QB and you're not in a spot to draft one. We are not in a spot to draft one because there really isn't one in this draft worth a first round pick. 2 firsts in nothing to give up for Jimmy G. because he is going to be a great QB. Hue knows it too which is why they are working hard to work out a trade for him.

What exactly has Jimmy Garoppolo done in the NFL to deserve/earn 2 first round picks? What exactly has Mitch Trubisky done in the NFL to warrant anything from the #1 to #12 pick? Devil's advocate...what has he done in College to warrant going that high? Only 13 starts and a bowl loss. Not saying he wont be good but, the gamble is significantly higher if we go down that road.

Fair enough but, there are some who do and many who speculate we will use one of these two picks to take him.

If he were a proven NFL franchise QB , it's worth 2 first round picks I agree. Those guys are rare. If the Packers called and offered Rodgers you take that. If the Dolphins offered us Marino entering his prime, you give them two 1st-round picks easy. No NFLer that's unproven is worth that.
Think about it, man.

I agree Lamp. A #2 this year and next year is more than enough for JG. There is no QB in this upcoming draft that is a guarantee and neither is JG. You can see what the Pats are doing They are sly and you might even call them "street smart" when it comes to making trades. Let's not fall into their trap.

Great logic.....LOL I don't know exactly what we should do, but think about who is saying what: You got guys like me, bone, Razor, etc saying to trade for Jimmy G. Then you got guys like cfrs, vambo, and Pastor saying not to trade for him. Clued in vs clueless.

Just saying no matter if a team trades or drafts a QB high that said team is and should invest the money the market dictates. And the truth is sometimes you don't get what you pay for. And reality is all NFL players are overpaid...

QBs traded for 2 first round picks??? Is there any history?
The only one I could think of was of course New England trading Bledsoe...a former overall #1 pick who lived up to his status for 8 seasons until he broke his BACK??? on a big time hit bringing Tom Brady's era into fold including a Lombardi trophy...
No all are saying Garappolo has achieved that status. Can't you see BB is trying to fleece us. The more I think about it the more I think Mangini knows what he is talking about especially when it come to BB and the Pats.
I still wish for us to make the trade...but not for much my limit is #52 and a 2018 2nd rounder...right now I think what we have offered is #52 and a 2018 3rd rounder.
But nothing more than that. BB will give in. If he had an offer for a first round pick he would have jumped on it. Frankly I think we made the best offer so far. Does BB hold back on JG? or does he cut off his nose to spite his face???

My favorite part of this thread is when someone says not to trade for JG, just make the team better, and then trade up for a QB next year..
Let's say, next year we are better, and finish with the 10th pick.
The 10th pick is valued at 1300.
The #1 pick is worth 3000.
That's 1700 points, equivalent to the #5 overall pick, or 3 2nd rounders...
So, assuming the team picking #1 isn't just going to take the QB. Then price is irrelevant.
You're STILL trading 2 firsts or a first and multiple 2s for a QB.
Who by the way, has ZERO NFL Experience.
But whatever.
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

Still seems rich, but doable. We strained to keep cap and cash space for something special to impact roster. This sounds doable to me.
Pay a little extra tho avoid Geno? I am okay with that. Do not settle.

People are saying that Jimmy G isn't worth this or that. They point to his lack of NFL starts as a reason as to why he isn't worth such a hefty price tag.
Consider this:
--The Redskins gave the Rams 3 first round picks and a second round pick for the second pick in the NFL draft, which they used to draft RGIII. Obviously, RGIII had ZERO NFL starts.
--"Tennessee sent the top selection along with its fourth- (No. 113) and sixth-round (No. 177) picks this year to the Rams in exchange for Los Angeles' first-round pick (No. 15), two second-round selections (Nos. 43 and 45) and a third-round pick (No. 76) in 2016. The Titans also will get the Rams' first- and third-round picks in 2017" for the ability to draft Goff in last year's draft. Goff has ZERO NFL starts.
--"The Eagles sent five draft picks to the Browns: the No. 8 pick in the first round, a third-round pick (77th overall) and a fourth-round pick (100th overall) in this year's draft, a first-round pick in 2017 and a second-round pick in 2018. Cleveland also sends a fourth-round pick in 2017 to the Eagles" for the ability to draft Wentz in last year's NFL draft. Wentz had ZERO NFL starts.

If biting your nose to spite your face means doing what u think is best for your football team ... then I agree ...
If I was Bill and u came to me with the offer u just proposed ... I'd tell u to call back IF and WHEN u get serious ... I'll hold him and get something close to that next year ...
Appearantly u guys think franchise QB's grow on trees ... if Bill thinks he has one .. NO WAY IN HELL does he trade him for two 2nd round picks ...
U guys are losing all sense of reality when it comes to his value to the pats .... the fact we need a QB has clouded your judgment well beyond belief ...

I agree with this! However, I don't think the rumored "at least 2 first rounders", however, will fly with our FO. Maybe as we approach the draft and not picking until #72 becomes more and more of a reality NE may pick up the phone and play ball with us? But, not for two 2nd rounders. It will probably have to involve at least the 12 and a couple other picks.

It's more than that. Posters seem to be very concerned about the risk of failure while paying a "hefty price tag". If we knew that JG would turn out to be a franchise QB, I would expect that most of us would have paid virtually any price.

So, trading all those picks for the likes of RGIII wasn't risky? Of course as there is an element of risk in everything. I would suggest that RG III was more highly prized than JG is currently. I'm not talking about body of work here, but rather what people saw for his potential...

I think there is risk anytime you obtain a player w/a high draft pick or draft picks.
If the Brown's FO determines that Jimmy G is worth the haul, then they make the move. People saying he isn't worth this or he is worth that are just pretending to know what his value is.

The going rate for proven backups with potential was set with Schaub at 2 second rounders but Matt Schaub had a lot more tape. Bradford went for a first but he was a starter.
The media is hyping Jimmy's value and the Pats of course is gonna agree with everything they say lol. Again, heard two months ago it was pretty much a wrap for a 2 and 4 unless someone wows. Teams that want Jimmy simply are in to bad of shape to raise the bid by much. 49ers and will wait for Cousins next year. Pats arent gonna trade with jets nor Bills. Bears liked Glennon a lot. Texans want Romo/Mahomes and Denver imho wants to go with Paxton.
While there isnt a Luck in this class, there are several promising prospects. I still expect Jimmy to be a Brown come mini camp and it probably ends up costing us a pair of deuces at the end of the day.

`I have heard and read people saying that they believe that Jimmy G is a surefire franchise QB.
For those here who believe this to be true, I ask this: How much would you give for him?
What if Belichick says that he wants an RG3 type package, with 3 1st round picks, and 2 seconds ..... including both 1st rounders this year, along with #33, then a 1st next year and a 2nd in 2018? (and maybe even more) If he's a surefire, game changing franchise guy, wouldn't a team give up whatever it takes to get him? If he is more of a sure bet that RG3 was as a rookie, then wouldn't it make sense to pay whatever New England demands, even up to a package that makes the RG3 trade look like the Rams just gave him away. If that's what it takes to get him, do you make that trade? If not, then why not?
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
