Newton started 1 year in Auburn because he was transfered from Florida where he was the starter but had an injury.

Mariota was the first freshman to start for the Ducks, Jameis redshirted one year, Bridgwater started has a Freshman also. I don't know where did you get you info, but its wrong.

I remember having this conversation about Hardesty, but at least he was the backup for Arian Foster and he was a 2nd round pick....

You are confusing me. You were the one that stated that any good QB should beat out the previous years starter even if that starter is a Senior and I replied that none of the guys you listed competed against a returning starter to win the job as their team's #1 QB.

Williams was a good "college" QB. They don't play college football just to develop talent for the NFL.

Big deal! If a guy is being mentioned as the first overall pick in the draft or even the 12th overall pick in the draft, he should be able to beat out a "good college qb."

Man, y'all spin stuff.

Tell me why;

Tom Brady couldn't beat out Brian Greise
Matt Ryan couldn't beat out Paul Peterson or Quinton Porter
Drew Brees couldn't beat out Billy Dicken
Carson Palmer couldn't beat out Mike Van Raaphorst

Have you considered that Larry Fedora might just be an offensive moron? The thing is Trubisky has been playing in games since he was a Freshman. Now I don't know the context of those games at all, I'm not sure if Marquise is out, they're up, trick play or whatever, but the dude's been playing since he was a freshman. I really do have to wonder why he didn't get more playing time too. Especially with the numbers he put up as a sophomore. 47 passes thrown and he completes 40 of them for 6 touchdowns and 555 yards? How can Fedora just sit on that?

Brady started 2 years, and wasn't a 1st round prospect to start, so if Trubisky goes back to college and posts another good season I would reacess my position

Matt Ryan, Brees and Palmer were starters on their Sophomore year, so don't know what you are pointing to....

This is even worst, because now Trubisky is playing and not showing the ability to be clearly better then the starter.

How do you expect a player who wasn't able to stand out in college to do it on the NFL?

IMHO, this is a severe case of Draft hype...

Tell me why:

You need to resort to making things up to win a stupid argument?

The only one who was the first overall pick was Palmer and he sure as heck didn't sit behind another qb for multiple years. Here is a link to prove it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carson_Palmer

I didn't even bother to look up the others. Wonder how that would go.

Look, it's fine if you don't believe it's an issue that Trub couldn't beat out Williams [who can't make an NFL roster] and he is worthy of being the first overall. However, please don't make things up to argue against those of us who have a concern about it. Please play fair. Winning a debate on a board by spreading untruths is not cool.

Wow. Just looked up Drew Brees and Matt Ryan.

Brees was named the starter before his sophomore season. Ryan started as a red-shirt freshman.

The common thing was not one of the guys listed could beat out the previous years starter they all started after the previous years starter left.

Drew Brees started his Sophomore year after Dicken left school.

Aaron Rodgers started his Sophomore year after Kyle Boller left school.

Matt Ryan split time as a Sophomore with Quinton Porter after Paul Petersen left school.

Kirk Cousins started his sophomore year after Brian Hoyer left school.

Carson Palmer split time as a freshman with Mike Van Raaphorst.

I can find very few instances where a current NFL QB beat out the incumbent starter when they were in college almost all took over after the incumbent starter left school.
